Turnbull-Browning SA-22

The Browning SA-22 was the world's first semi-automatic .22 courtesy of John Browning in 1914. It also happens to be the cover gun from the July 2023 issue of GUNS Magazine.
Made in Japan by Miroku, this SA-22 rifle is every bit of the quality as those put out in Belgium in the early days. Turnbull Restoration added a touch of class by hand engraving the receiver before treating it to their bone charcoal color case-hardening, resulting in a finish that's both eye-pleasing and practical.

I’m an old guy too Roy and I agree that it’s a classy looking rifle. It’s hard to beat shiny walnut and polished bluing. Turnbull’s color case hardening really sets it off!

I got one from a wholesale FFL cheap because the bluing was worn and it had a broken stock.....$15. $50 to fix stock. Try beating that deal

Is the octagon barrel version you have there still drilled and tapped for the scope mount? I think a small low power prism scope might just make that the king of 22 hunting rifles.

They are ready for scoping but it takes a specific mount from Browning. Roy

Cool gun Roy. I have my late father’s Browning in a hard carrying case. It is a treasure. It’s a wonderful gun, and this one is even nicer. I have to say, every time your phone rang, I stopped the video and checked my phone. So, you got me. Lol. Thanks for sharing.👍

it's pretty elegant too with Leupold scope mount & using a Leupold gloss blued (have to find a used one) 4 power rimfire scope. GREAT granddaughter gun that she can one day inherit!

Try putting your hand forward to the front of the forearm and apply slightly reward pressure. No more hot and groups might tighten up. Make sure you have extremely good vision. 😊

I've always loved the little SA-22. I own a grade I, III and VI. All have little Redfield 3/4" tube 4X RF scopes which seemed to be made for the SA-22. My parents gave me the grade I for a 14th birthday present and I was hooked. The grade III and VI are absolute works of art.

Hello, can the 22WMR cartridge be fired with this SA-22LR Semi-Auto Rimfire Rifles? If I put the caliber 22WMR in the sa22LR auto rimfire belgium long rifle tank and fire it, is it dangerous? Please help, thanks

I have one of that.. together with a Marlin 39-A and a Remington 550-1 that my Dad bought and l First shot as a Boy 65- years ago 😊. I borrowed an SA 22 during the early 70s. It shot well. My buddy hit a pigeon sized paper target around a hundred yards away. on a downhill area using the iron sights. It fed from the butt stock and was initially disassembled into two parts when it arrived. The rifle was made in Belgium. During that time Miroku was already selling high grade shotguns. I am glad to know that Miroku also made these SA 22s. Norinco also made a clone of the SA 22. I am currently asking around for one that is for sale. Thanks for a great video Editor Roy. It brought back a lot of good memories.

Eduardo, I had one of those Chinese rifles and while it was “adequate” it fell far shot of the real thing. Frankly, I think you’d enjoy having a “real” one much more. The amount you pay now will be long forgetten in the future, while the enjoymemnt of owning a high quality rifle will remain! Roy

@@fmgpubs I. agree with you Ed Roy. Besides. due to the high cost of taxes and licensing of guns out here. I may have a better chance of finding a Browning/Miroku SA 22 rather than the clone. Stores here tend to import more of the expensive FAs since gun owners would rather save up to buy the best rather than settle for a clone. The cost of licensing is the same for both expensive brands and its clones. Depending on one's resources. a person may end up owning a lesser number of FAs but he/she will enjoy the better quality. That’s the thing, they are easy to shoot and are plenty accurate for what they are for. I had a scoped one (a cased set from Browning) some years ago and while you could shoot a smaller group, it made the gun unhandy to tote. Roy
