You probably didn’t get ripped off, but you got scrap value since it was most likely gonna be melted down. Scrap value is much less than retail or even wholesale price. It’s even less than the value by weight because there is still labor involved in melting it. So you technically didn’t get ripped off, except to the extent that when you sell jewelry for scrap to be melted you’re always kind of getting ripped off. Unless it was in really bad shape, it was worth a lot more as a used bracelet (labor already included) than as scrap.
