I personally feel like 360 cameras are really not where they should be to make people choose this realistically over fpv. The FPV looks so much smoother and natural whereas the 360 camera looks muddy and robotic. (and there's jello-like motions in the footage. It could be a combination of the air pressure of the altitude or the motors being overworked by the weight.) Just my personal opinion. Nice video y'all!

the jello effect comes from the digital image stabilization in the camera (as far as I know). I don't necessarily think the drone is overworked, it may just be that it doesn't need to fly more stable as the mavic cam is stabilized on a gimbal (maybe the extra weight could even help to make the drone more stable, as it may absorb smaller motion/vibration). But you might also be right, as the mounting of extra hardware wasn't originally considered by dji.

@melon_ marlon so you mean what we are really seeing is rolling shutter? For me I know that the warp stabilizer in Premiere Pro can cause a wobble effect, and that most likely does play a role here. In cinema a short shutter speed is often used in action sequences and there I never experienced such a behaviour. So I don't think it's the shutter. I am almost certain that it is the digital stabilization trying to keep things straight while the camera shakes like crazy. The jello effect also feels very unnatural and digital. It isn't something I'd expect from a camera under any circumstances.

I can see a big difference but in reality i think it's aimed at people who want to play around with the video editing without the learning curve of flying something that fast. @@redevil0087 true this 360 camera tried making a drone do something it isn't made to do, those kinds of shots are for fpv drones and other types of slower shots that arent in tight areas are for the dji drones (for example a timelapse of some construction of something outside) while fpv racing drones are for racing and faster cinematic shots and for tight spaces there is cinewhoop fpv drones aswell

Yeah, I agree. But I can see why some people would want this. I have had my Mavic Pro for 3 years now and it has been great, but I just purchased my first FPV drone(iFlight Nazgul 5) and it has been very frustrating and discouraging to learn.

The footage of the insta one x looks so so so bad compared to the fpv drone - not only is built in stabilisation playing up and making it all jelly like, it looks about 360p quality. Great video and all though, just not a great product in my opinion!

You're not understanding what's going on here. FPV-style shots are very different from smooth straight shots. A 360 camera can simulate the tilts, rolls, and other dramatic moves that a FPV drone delivers.

@@shaunchapman an fpv drone can definitely go smooth and straight, you just have to be a good pilot. What an fpv drone can't do is replicate the 3 axis gimbal giving you control over your camera movement (ironically a 360 can could fake that). A 360 cam on dji just isn't going to reliably be able to fake fpv footage though and here's why. When an fpv drone moves its camera, the entire drone is moving and pivoting around that camera. When it comes to more complex maneuvers, such as going past someone and turning around or flipping over a car, this is going to result in elevation changes. When a dji drone is simulating that with a 360 cam, the drone isn't pivoting around the camera. The drone is staying steady and therefore won't result in elevation changes. If you know how to fly fpv you might be able to somewhat reliably replicate that with dji but you'll still have to do a ton of speed ramping as dji drones descend veryyyy slowly. So in other words, no a dji drone with a 360 cam cannot replicate that, and that's actually kind of the point of this video.

@@CineZoneYT getting a top of the line fpv setup is cheaper than a mavic 2 pro. And the setup they're flying here is only maybe $500-600 for the drone, controller, goggles, batteries, etc. In other words, it's pretty close to the price of a mavic mini. By the time you get an insta 360 one r, which is also pretty close to Mavic Mini pricing, and this mount, you're not really saving that much money, if any.

Honestly Wren's implementation was way too clunky and could have been done way better. StanFPV has a frame design that integrates the entire camera into the body of the drone making the quad invisible, allowing for true 360.

Any seasoned FPV pilot knew this outcome straight away. There are some things that would be really interesting to do with this setup on a mavic but the vibration/stabilization doesn't seem to hold up. On a completely different note: for the love of god: NEVER EVER do hand launches like that again! If that drone flups out for no reason whatsoever (which is always a possibility with an FPV drone), it will destroy your face. Im not even exaggerating here. Already you clipped yourself with the mavic... that same thing with the FPV drone would have ended WAY badly.

You can put the Mavic 2 Pro in ATTI mode and it also have a "FPV mode" that locks the roll axis. Im not saying its the same thing but you should know the basics if compairing.

It looks like you didn't apply the flawstate stabilization in 360 studio, I have made videos with a drone and it looks way better, however it cannot compare with the 4k of the GoPro(or any other camera) because in 360 you get about 1080p even with the GoPro max ,5.7k is the total of the 360* but when you take a piece of that 360 you get only 1080p

Honestly as someone who flys BOTH DJI & FPV AAAAAND I use 360 cameras I DO understand that FPV has the speed and fluidity over the DJI GPS Drone with the 360 cam HOWEVER I feel your editing of the actual 360 video wasn't exactly... Great. I've edited 360 footage to do awesome things like pan, flip, and roll. You didn't really edit the 360 footage to it's extent. Does that make sense?

Great FPV shots. Awesome location. Obviously not a replacement to FPV if flown in the same way but sadly I don’t think you really tested the 360 mod to it’s full potential. You can easily mimic turns on the VERTICAL axis but you were only thinking 2 dimensional. :-( You effectively had a flying orb but only edited for left and right... ?? probably as you are used to FPV I guess ? Ultimately it won’t replace and FPV but thanks for the vid 🤙

The problem with any 360 camera is you only have 4k or 5.7k for the whole 360 degrees of X and Y axis , for every direction, yet your angle of view is 48.6 degrees diagonal for the equivalent of a std 50mm lens and 75.4 for a 28mm wide angle lens on a full frame DSLR or a 35mm film camera (might need a museum to find one of them). The more selective you are with your post framing I.E. the more you zoom in the less FOV you use and the less actual pixels you are creating your final image from so instead of a 5.7k camera you have (48.6/360) * 5.7k which is a 0.769k camera for a std lens equivalent or a 1.193k camera for a wide angle which is why the footage shot on the insta 360 looks at best like 720p - 1080p but more like std definition. using the fpv drone allows the camera to use much more of its pixels so the image looks better. So if you want to get 4k footage out of a 360 degree camera at a std FOV then you need a 24K or above 360 camera knowing that at any one time above 80% off your hard earned money is just wasting space and weight. So undeterred by the need of a 24K camera and having to sell a kidney to buy one as well as a drone powerful enough to lift it , you have manged to get it to fly, then it still wont look as good as a FPV does at being an FPV coz it wont fly like an FPV. in conclusion, keep both kidneys and stick a decent 4k camera on a fpv and practice like a man possessed ... anyone want to buy an insta360 camera???

The DJI Mavic 2 Pro is at least $1,600 and he handles it like a piece of garbage. In the way he put it on the rock. Either he is very rich and can replace it, or he's bragging that he has a lot of money, or he is borrowing it from a friend.

Nah, the 360 footage looks kinda like when you set Canon In-Camera stabilisation on advanced and use the weird Actioncam Compression and set GoPro sharpness to high, which isn’t a good combo... Just learn FPV, it’s definitely worth it...

That's not bad at all. 12:40 (well done with that standard FPV gear. the biggest con with the insta360 is when your balancing on the edge of 360s line-mixing and this you will often do when top and bottom are main cam-points on a slow multirotor like Mavic where the pitch is relative so the things in front and around horizontal 360view, will choke and jelly up with the line mixing particularly witch such a wide cut between the top and bottom-cam that is like 15cm. so keep the main sequence around the top & bottom shots for best results..

Stick a Tiny Whoop camera with a 3.7 150 mah battery on the Mavic and fly it FPV. I do this with my Mini, Typhoon 4k,Parrot Bebop 2and Rc cars.

If you want fpv style shots, there's so many ways to cheat it and get the shot without flying the fpv drone and there's even ways more effective than this. I have no problems with people doing that except fpv is just so fun and rewarding, it's sad to see people trying so freaking hard to avoid that. There's so many easy ways to get into fpv, just do it. You won't regret it. You will have so much fun getting cool shots instead of just frustrating yourself thinking of and trying all the ways you might get close.

reposition your vtx antenna pleaaase!!!!! if you keep it horizontally it is absolutely not optimal you lose a LOT of range, you have to put it 45° vertical because this kind of antenna throw a donut-shaped radius of waves when they are placed vertically. So if you keep it horizontal you'll receive the "hole" of the donut. (If you place it 45°, when the quad is moving forward the antenna has more chance to be vertical) Great video tho have a good day :)

You forgot to mention the BIGGEST issue with the 360 One R Aerial Mod for the Mavic 2... even states on their site in big red text if I remember correctly. On the MP2 it interferes with the GPS signal - sometimes you might get good signal but others, not at all and it will switch in ATTI mode (personal experience that resulted in a drone loss)... so that is a big issue IMHO.

Totally agree, I had that happen with my insta one 360, and I was on my balcony,at the time I had no idea what was happening,it took all my concentration and a fair bit luck to land my M2Z without crashing. Absolutely critical where camera is positioned...at least on that model. I also had my mini drop from the sky with no warning with the insta one...fortunately was only up about 15 meter and landed on grass without damage. Not in a hurry to try again ,bit too valuable to risk!
