It looks great. The thing you said about making the stripes thinner will look great. How about out thick like they are then the next ones in a bit thinner? Ideas.

Looks nice Bob. IMHO if I had a very light colored wood in the blank, I would leave the Padauk out altogether. The light wood gives plenty of contrast. 😎❤👍

Great blank and end result Bob. I have made similar blanks and used Paduk as well. It has a gorgeous colour but is so frustrating when the sanding dust bleeds into a lighter wood. I also put one coat of thin CA before sanding. Great video Bob. Take care. Cheers, Huw

Nice job, Bob. To help keep the padauk from bleeding, perhaps a bit of credit card stock/guitar pick or some other plastic spacers between the segments would help as well as add a bit more interest.

I've had that bleeding problem with paduak myself. Also with satinwood. It's really annoying. The first time I did it the red shaded pretty evenly across a light maple section going from dark to light so I described it as a design element and everyone either thought I was very creative or was polite enough to pretend that they thought I was. SDE ( serendipitous design enhancement ) is a great thing.

I saw a man put a bushing on the finished blank when he was pressing the cap on. I am going to start doing that.

Been doing that for years, it will save you from crushing the ends of your blanks if they’re not perfectly square to the pen press ram. Regards, Bob
