As a mom of a 15 and 12 year old, I agree with your explanation of the love and wanting to protect your children. It's tough to see them get out of little kids stage. Your mom must appreciate this painting so much. I love the graphic illustrated style.

I don't know if this is a weird thing to say but I really really really admire how much you value your family. I just feel that I'm surrounded by people who may disregard some important things, aspects or people in their life and watching this felt like a breath of fresh air. Kinda ironic.

Congratulations on creating such a beautiful piece! I believe not being able to “step into the painting” is appropriate, as this is a snapshot of an assessment of a memory...We can never return to the past, but only through our filtered imaginations... Such a wonderful tribute to your mom, your siblings-your father!! Your childhood. And, to your artistry. I absolutely love it!! Thank you for sharing your process and memories with us. I wish you continued success, Mr. Sorgie!

When I think of my papawl I think of butterflies, before he died he told us about a dream he had that he was surrounded by butterflies watching them fly all around him, then he noticed that he was one of them. He said he’d never felt happier than when he was a butterfly and that he was gonna be okay when he passed cause he just knew he was gonna become a butterfly... it brought us all a peace and still does everytime we see a butterfly we think it’s maybe him watching over us.

This is a very lovely use of the whole hierarchy of scale. As an art history student, I often study works with central figures that are so much larger than surrounding figures. The meaning behind those works tend to focus on power and strength and definitely not as a symbol of protectiveness as you used it. Its quite refreshing to see a piece like this :)
