A strip of strong nylon webbing across the end of the slats would work for supporting them. While the bed is in the closed position, screw through the webbing into the TOP of the first movable slat, then pull it kind of tight (but not too tight or you'll have trouble pulling the bed open) and screw it into the last moveable slat. Then screw into the rest of the movable slats. The non-movable slats will support the webbing, and the webbing will support the movable slats, keeping them from dropping down and getting caught when you are trying to close the bed.

@@app103 great idea! I was going to use a thin bit of wood but I think webbing might be better! Thank you 😁👍🏼
@app103Ай бұрын
@@matty_fox Yeah, I thought about that, but then remembered how uncomfortable my sofa bed is, because of the chunk of wood under the mattress, that supports the wood frame. XD The wood would have to be really thin to not feel it, and that would make it too fragile to be worth the cost or effort. Nylon webbing is both thin AND strong. A strip of sheet metal would work, too, but that would come with a higher cost, more work to implement, and add more weight to the build.

Candle wax rubbed on the timber enables a smooth slide. Another is vaseline (petroleum jelly). Helps it slide aell

Awesome work and an awesome chuckle at your efforts mate... Im sat here in fits and in the short gasps of air I can manage im shouting at the screen... "Just unscrew it Matty" and then when you tested the supporting timbers strength from underneath whilst applying downward force was a tense moment, was it going to result in you braining yourself with the timber as it failed or were you going to have your full set of teeth at the end of the film. The suspense was almost too much to bare. 🤣😂😂

Thanks! I was out in the van over summer and I had no problems! I don't think plywood expands much to be honest. If it did become an issue it would be relatively simple to fix 😁👍🏼

We thought about the same design on our Transit aswell but eventually end up making U shape bench/bed 😀I really like the idea of that type of pull out bed but that would of left us almost with no space for kitchen 😬 Is your transit medium or long wheel base ?

@@matty_fox we used to use just plain candle wax on our drawers. rub both surfaces where the woods meet with wax - the small shabat whites were what we had because they were very inexpensive at the grocery store.
