If you cut on both sides maybe an inch from the end, you can grab the ends of the sheathing and peel it open. No need to risk nicking the wire

A bit confused as if these 2 switches are powering 2 lights but shouldn't there be 3 cables? 1 power and 2 out to the lights
@SgtJoeSmith4 ай бұрын
He ran power to the light 1st then down to the switch. That's why he used 14/3 so black is hot in and red hot out to light where as most people just used 14/2 and white as hot out. But code changed and have to have a neutral in switch box now as some switches like lighted switches I just installed require a neutral to work. I personally don't like or use this method. It was just used to save wire.

Have you heard of combination switch? Basically it is a switch that can control two lights and will fit in one electrical box. Saves you some trouble.
@nics-systems-electric3 жыл бұрын
Yes I only use them if I absolutely have to like if it’s a box cut into a wall that I just cannot expand to a double gang or triple gang but for something like this where it’s easy to do I prefer just normal switches as people don’t really like the double switches and I think they look a little worse but they can be good for some situations
@rohtashgoyal Жыл бұрын
little bit confuse, earlier it should be two cables incoming(line) and outgoing(load) and later with two switch it should be 3 cables? but I see earlier 1 and later 2?

Hi Nic, I have a light switch outside a closet that turns the light on/off inside the closet. The power source comes from the light fixture inside the closet to the switch outside the closet. The white wire at the switch is the hot. I want to add an independent light with switch outside the closet using the power from the closet light switch and not the light box. Can you do that in Canada?

Was that a Federal Pacific breaker panel on the left? Those are dangerous panels especially the Stab-Lok. They fail to trip and burn the wire up. The failure is really high like 1 in 3 or 4 breakers will fail to trip. That would be a good video: panel replacement. I know you have the ability and know how to do it safely and professionally.
@nics-systems-electric2 жыл бұрын
Trust me I know it's there and that it's a problem the thing is with replacing it is the cost of having to switch everything out to arc fault if it was moved over to the main panel

can these instructions be followed for installing an interior ceiling fan? in other words, we currently have one existing switch to an outlet. would like to leave that as is and add a second switch to new ceiling fan in the same room. thanks

Those circuit breaker finders are great but yeah they can be kind of vague and a pain. I usually take the front of the panel off so I can bring the tester up close to the hot leads coming off each breaker and more clearly see which one is making it light up/beep. Just have to be careful when working on an open and hot panel, but that goes without saying!

This is great. Question. Is this the same way if I need to wire ceiling pot lights and ceiling fan to two separate switches? I want to be able to dim the pot lights with one switch and the other switch would just turn the ceiling fan power on/off

If you hit the test button on the circuit finder plug wouldn’t it trip the gfci or breaker? I’m just curious if it would or not.

It will test a GFCI so it would trip a GFCI receptacle but it won’t trip a normal breaker only if it’s a GFCI breaker

Why not just use a double switch instead of the box? A lot cheaper and simpler.
@nics-systems-electric Жыл бұрын
Double switches are great for a situation where you can't add another box but that's about it they suck in every other way specifically in this case not being able to install a smart switch for outside lighting
@TexasEngineer Жыл бұрын
I did not see a smart switch being mentioned in the video. They looked liked the old dumb switches to me. Why is the color of the switch plate and switches different? Different brands.
