It's kind of difficult to have any relations with an entity that always lies and never keeps its word. An entity with a record of illegal wars, occupations, regime change, and proxy wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Yugoslavia etc.

As opposed to an entity that has a history of war, land grabbing and regime change in the countries neighboring it like in Ukraine, Lithuania, Moldova, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Poland, Norway, Georgia etc? I would rather have the US "supervising" my country then Russia, thank you very much!

Let's face it. Was anyone scared of Russia post 1991 ? Desire to join NATO was popular b/c it came with promise of the EU membership few years later or for Baltics in the same time to make sure there is no change of mind.
