Hi, I am getting nothing but catches when using the rougher. I have tried different heights with my rest but nothing seems to work. With a big distance between the rest and the work piece makes it easy for catches.

I just started using this tool myself and I am getting the same result, lots of catches. By the lack of replies to this comment I suppose there is no solution to this problem. The large distance from the work piece to the tool rest causes significant problems.

@@pauldarlington5589 Yes, I am also new at this, but I was taught at a club, what they said was : handle HIGH, ie NEVER place a scraper at centre height ( while turning!!, this IS the correct 'static' position for the SHANK of the tool to rest upon), ie place the head of the tool Bellow the rest height, and approach the wood from below the centre line, and go slow, the higher the tool, the MORE aggressive it cuts, and be mindful of the tools' wings!!- keep them clear of wood, like a skew chisel long point! I also have Autism, and one thing that helps me is to place the tool onto the bed of the lathe, this is the 'limit' of angle, so you can establish muscle memory of the point of danger, and when to be mentally aware the tool is "high" enough.

one question, the intro photo shows the cutting tool in 10 parts, BUT you DON'T put it together in the video, or show how the tools mount to the shank of the handle, which is a real pity as this kind of video is watched by us to be a "visual instructions" to add to the text in any manual. also can you add a link below the video telling us how to get more info on it, like what I have said previously, aka any BASIC set up videos, list of available cutters, what they do.... . eg like this link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r2Gyn5yHhbWLprs

Hi Andy...Thank you for your feedback...I hope the following information helps you with your questions...The intro photo shows the TurnMaster fitted to a traditional Robert Sorby wooden handle together with the Sovereign interchangeable handle system (www.robert-sorby.co.uk/woodturning/sovereign-system.html)...Each of the unhandled TurnMaster tools fit into the Sovereign system using the 1/2" (13mm) collet. The TurnMaster head screws onto the end of the shaft using the locking collar and the head is positioned by placing the locating pin into one of the three selection positions. Centre position for waste removal, shaping and general scraping. Left or right positions depending on the direction of cut for shear scraping and fine finishing. one important tip: NO Jewellery ( watches or rings) while using rotating machinery, safety first, this can catch on a piece and take your whole hand into the rest with it, look at angle grinder safety videos if you need proof of this!!
