Really enjoy your videos, insight, and positive attitude. Really appreciated your review of the Lounge Audio phono stage. I had this for about a year, and was really unhappy with the sound quality, but figured it must be something I was doing wrong, because I had read so many positive reviews elsewhere. Your review mirrored my thoughts, and gave me the confidence to trust my own ear. I have since sold it and bought a Rega Aria phono stage, based on your recommendation. I am very happy with it! :). Thanks again!

I'm curious why he adjusted overhang? I thought with SME arms this was added / subtracted into the pivot to spindle calculation and adjusted via the sliding base.

+David Dennis You're right with the SME arm adjustment!!! :-D It is slightly different from most other tonearms that have no sliding base design! Thank you David for pointing that out! Best Regards, Ian.

I got a Dr Feickert Woodpecker in October it's great turntable, I'm using the VPI 12 arm and an Ortofon Cadenza Black. The SME is the perfect choice for a mono cart especially for Jazz, nice not to have to worry about azimuth :-). Lovely set up, great video.

Came to see what he used for setting the azimuth. Am I guessing wrong or is that not as important or not at all important (as long as it's fairly straight) for mono cartridges?

Nice Job peeps - gear looks great and I'm sure it sounds great in person :). Really like the focus on Mono although I'm all stereo (and will put a 4 point 11 inch in for mono if my pressings for mono ever reach critical mass :) Really nice job on the video! I have a question - maybe someone could answer with a video link. I have a Feickert Blackbird with Kuzma 4 point 14 inch and couldn't be happier. I setup my gear via a (groan) paper protractor that came with the Kuzma 4 point and cartridge setup was easy enough originally. I received a new cartridge rebuild from my wife for Christmas and attempting to setup the cartridge with the Feickert protractor that came in the box (which appears far superior to my paper protractor). It has 5 simple instructions however, struggling to figure out how to use it. Keep in mind I setup the Kuzma 14" solo - which was super challenging :) Was hoping this video would use the Feickert protractor tool that comes with the Feickert table, but it does not. I can easily setup overhang, but the null points don't land on the cross points for Lofgren no matter how hard I try. If anyone knows of video instructions for the Feickert protractor that ships with the blackbird - you would have my gratitude :)
@HiViNywschannel
@HiViNywschannel 7 жыл бұрын
OOOoooh!!!! YOu have a Blackbird too!!! :-D Congrats Steven for your fine purchase!!! Kuzma 4point!! AND... a lovely wife to indulge you with a cartridge rebuild!!!! Merry Christmas my friend indeed! Dear Steven, I have asked the local Dr Feickert retailer before and he said that after getting the 1st nullpoint correct, you can shift the NG Protractor anti-clockwise or clockwise and land your stylus on the 2nd nullpoint and ensuring the cantilever is parallel to the hashmarks. You CAN shift the protractor. As long as you manage to get the 2 nullpoints landed by the stylus with its cantilever parallel to the hashmarks respectively on both nullpoints, even if there is some movement of the NG Protractor, in between, it does not matter :-D!!! I really hope it helps, I had also asked Vincent, the nice guy in the video! Best Regards Steven, from ian!
@StevenDake
@StevenDake 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ian! That really does help and was super fast. The Feickert instructions don't mention this with the protractor that came in my Feickert box. Note I don't have a protractor NG - but it looks similar (however lacks the PVS arm). When I used the paper protractor that came with the 14" 4 point 3 months ago the instructions indicated I could shift the protractor around, and I debated doing this with the Feickert protractor since it doesn't say this is a thing that can be done. Looking forward to getting my Ortofon Cadenza Black mounted to see if it is more detailed then the 2m (groan) that is on there atm that I scavenged from my old Project turntable. I'm a bit concerned about resonant frequencies - at some point I'm likely to need a cartridge that specs well with my tonearm. IMO tonearm is almost more important then the turntable itself :) If I ever add a second tonearm to my Blackbird, I may add an 11" Kuzma and make a video of it. There is only one video on Kuzma setup, and the fella makes it look easy - however, as my first time tonearm and cartridge setup I found it to be super challenging - even after reading through the instructions 10-20 times :) The cool thing though was I learned every little bit and piece about how turntable setup works and how a tonearm works (atleast the Kuzma). Fantastic tonearm. Regards -steve

very informative vid thank you! is there any specific reason why the mono cart went to the 12 inch arm and not to the 9?
@HiViNywschannel
@HiViNywschannel 8 жыл бұрын
Hi fellow Friend-in-Vinyl!.. yes the reason why the Mono cartridge ("Miyajima Zero") went to the 12inch arm while the Stereo cartridge ("Lyra Delos") is going to the 9inch arm, is because the owner's record collection consists of 80% Mono LPs and 20% Stereo LPs :-D. ...and he values listening to his prized first pressings jazz mono LPs more than the stereo ones as well... that's why he preferred to invest more and focus his efforts and wants to derive more listening joy from the Mono cartridge, and he feels 12inch arm would give him the better sound. Thank you for your comments and interaction :-) ! See you again! Best regards, Ian.

Thanks for an interesting video. I'm considering the same setup (more or less). May I ask how much you paid for the Blackbird? In Sweden it cost 44,000 SEK without any tonearm in sight. That is about 5,400 USD, in todays value. Tax included.

Dear brother-in-vinyl!! :-D Sorry for my late reply. This Blackbird is not mine, it is my friend's. And he paid 9,000 Singapore Dollars for it (without tonearm), inclusive of tax. I guess you have it much cheaper there my friend!!! Best Regards, Ian.

What for the turntable needs two tonearms?
@HiViNywschannel
@HiViNywschannel 8 жыл бұрын
my friend Johnny needs one tonearm to be fitted on with the Mono cartridg: to play his Mono records, and the tonearm to be fitted on with the Stereo cartridge to play his stereo records. :-) it works out to be a better solution to him because he doesn't want to buy 2 turntables, each with 1 tonearm. :-D He prefers it this way to have a turntable with 2 tonearms. Thank you for your enquiry. Helps other viewers to understand better as well!! Keep the Vinyl Spinning!
