Thanks for sharing! I'm wondering if you can explain your sanding process - what kind of sandpaper do you use and do you use a power sander or could you do it by hand?
@salvagedcreation
@salvagedcreation 3 жыл бұрын
I do use a power sander, orbital, working from 100 through 400 grits. I will try to do a sanding video someday. Thanks for the view and comment.

Interesting video. Thank you. Is it possible to get a finer ground turquoise so that after the fill and sand the stone would appear much more solid as though it were a solid stone rather than the appearance of a bunch of small particles? Thank you.

Yes you can use mica powders
@salvagedcreation

Yes there are much finer grinds of the turquois powders or as suggested below there are limitless varieties and colors of what we call mica powder.

Why didn’t you use sawdust and glue as a backer?

Great point, I work in my finish room and don't want to introduce a bunch of dust into the area.

I’ve always used epoxy but I am wondering if CA glue will dry crystal clear. I like leaving some clear areas with just a little bit of turquoise sprinkled in to create a depth so to speak. Wondering if this will work instead of the epoxy I’ve been using?
@salvagedcreation
@salvagedcreation Жыл бұрын
I apologize for not seeing your comment. It will not be as clear as epoxy IMO.

I typically go from 100, 120, 150, 180, 220 and 240. If there is a lot of figure in the wood I will go up to 400. Sorry for the late response, I hope this helps.

Why not use real turquoise to go along with the beautiful wood. I live in New Mexico and have access to all kinds of precious stones. Great way to plug the hole with material. I'll try that on my next table. Very informative video.

Thank you very much for the comment I really appreciate it and I’m kind of jealous about living in New Mexico. I’ve never played with real turquoise but I’m sure it would be beautiful.

In this case, I had some thick glue lying around and did use it. You could use just thin glue for both I believe.

Thanks, that might work but I needed a hollow void to fill the inlay in. I definatly use a lot of glue and sawdust.
