@@_year-sb6sy Panic and stress do things to higher-order thinking. It's stress/anxiety laughter. And she wasn't being irresponsible -- she called the vet when the turtle was injured, and when Chris returns, the dog was banished to the balcony. It isn't her pet, and we don't know how much instruction she was given as to the turtle's care she was given before the owners went away. "Being irresponsible" would to do nothing and hope that the turtle improved on its own. There's too many people issuing judgment on this poor woman.

My pitbull chewed a chunk out of my palm sized turtle's shell. Mom found him and since we didnt have 500$ to take the 5$ turtle to the vet, mom just popped him into a quarantine tub. Despite a decent chunk of his shell and subsequent tissue gone, he completely healed all on his own within a couple weeks and the shell eventually grew over and fused the hole shut. He is now 12 years old and still doing fine.

Wow, that was lucky ! It's really sad to see your animals just becauqe you can t afford the vet or the meds. I don t understand why it cost so much... An when you have cheap animals it s worst. I have a chicken who costed me 50 cents but cost 50€/month for a chronic disease. I can t afford the meds anymore so the chicken just live with it and is really weak and fragile. Same for the cats, they have a chronic disease that cost hundreds of dollars, so my mom just buy the meds online when it becomes too worst and let the cat alone when it s not too worse.

@@necroboxbirdwatcher6403 Agreed. Anything medical where I live is off the charts. We thought the dog broke her leg once but it was 300$ just for an x-ray. We left it alone to see whether it would get better on its own and it did. I pretty much live my whole life like this. Even if the injuries are to myself, I just deal with it until they go away. The american healthcare system sucks.

Please don’t take this way out of proportion because I do understand that vets are ridiculous with their prices I used to have 4 horses one of them needed veterinary treatment and I couldn’t afford it but I knew she needed it so I re-homed her to someone who already knew her and could afford the veterinary treatment for her because I couldn’t bare to see her in so much pain so I completely understand how ridiculous vet prices are but if you suspected your dog had a broken leg then you should have done something about it and as heart breaking as it is if you can’t afford the veterinary treatment then maybe re-home the animal to someone you trust and someone you know who can afford the treatment for your beloved dog as you just don’t know whether they’re in absolute agony without getting it clarified. Humans are able to speak to people and actually say oh I think I’ve broken a bone best go get it checked out where as animals aren’t able to do that. I actually re-homed the other 3 of my horses after that as well because I never wanted to be in that position again where I wouldn’t be able to pay to get my beloved animal the help they needed if they were in pain as absolutely heart breaking as it was I knew it was the right thing to do, just please be careful buying pets if you cannot afford veterinary treatment for them because you never know if something terrible is going to happen to them, I learnt from my mistakes and seriously felt awful having to re-home my babies just because blimming vets charge extortionate amounts of money 😣 stay safe 🤞🏼

@@jesssefton6752 The reason we had the dog was because her previous owners were abusing her and no one else wanted her. Trust me, the last dog I'd willingly bring into my home would be that one. Labradoodles are stubborn, manipulative, distructive beasts. Mom took her in though because the children at our cousin's house, who we got her from, were beating on her to the point where she was neurotic and jumpy and would snap at people. When mom got sick again and couldn't handle her anymore, we did end up rehoming her. Last I heard she lives with a family of 4 with two younger, active kids she can run around with. So it all worked out in the end.

I think the best solution is that, if the turtle is to run around freely (which it shouldn't) is that some sort of unpleasant non toxic agent is put on the turtles shell and possibly skin (not near the head) right? Something like onions, garlic, radish, something that will repel the dog but the turtle won't mind at all.

dog needs to be trained far better than it currently is, and that turtle- and ANYTHING that small frankly- needs to be KEPT AWAY AND OUT OF REACH of the dog as well. because if the dog went for something as hard as a turtle's shell it will ABSOLUTELY go for something as soft as a pet bird, kitten, rabbit or worse- a kids arm.

This is an Aquatic turtle. It should be in a tank out of reach of the dog or in another sort of confined enclosure like a fenced pond. The only way the dog could have gotten to the turtle is the carer letting the turtle run on the floor, or the tank was within the dog's reach. Poor baby 🥺

She seemed too happy/jokey about the whole situation, so it has me worried and Id like some context plz. Why did she think itd b a good idea to introduce Coda (a beautiful good boi) to Homer (lil good boi) without puttin Coda on a leash first to have more control over the situation? When i introduced my dog to my tortoise, i had him on a leash and monitored closely for signs of aggression/wantin to attack/play (my dog had no interest, which is odd). Where is she keepin the turtle as well? If its at level with the dog, thats not good. Im just tryin to wrap my head around it.

Her happiness comes off to me as manic. I doubt she actually happy. More like she's stressed and clinging to positivity to get by.

I know its not the vets place, but surely he should have done some dog training there and then. Teach the dog NO. Then passed on the comment to the owners and the carer
