Tuscany Rose China - Create A Beautiful Table For A Dinner Party!

My first dinner party in my new home I work on two tablescapes for you! English and Italian. Royal Standford and Tuscany Rose patterns. I used to be a caterer so I go through the VERY BASICS of my first dinner party in my new home! How about that!!! ! I talk about Centerpieces, china, flatware, coordinating colors, and the vibe. Some things I bought new and some things can only be thrifted or found on eBay!
13:37 Tablescapes Begin - I do remove my centerpiece as my guests are seated. It is replaced by a long tray that has goodies on it so we can have our wine and munch and chat!
My friend Maggie has given me permission to share her story of divorce. She hopes her story will help others. She is a wonderful woman trying to adjust in a new home she thought she would be sharing with her husband. If you have time perhaps remember her in your prayers this week.
...and yes, Desi does sing at the end!!!

Tuscany Rose for a lunch. Stanford Blue for a dinner. Can't seem to pick just one! What about the serving dishes, do they go on the table too or are they kept separate so you serve and then sit down? Just curious. Yes, sometimes a marriage is over way before it actually ends. 2 people live in a house like strangers who don't even have the energy to fight. Till one person just walks out, most often having met someone new. The one left behind is blindsided but realizes soon enough if they are honest that love left those 4 walls a long while ago. You don't miss the person as much as the comfort of being part of the picture. The routine, the knowledge that things were ok day to day but ok is never enough. Then you cry, and those tears make you strong, you get up and move into a new way of life. Lessons learned, stronger, wiser and more compassionate with others. God bless her she will Survive.

I so look forward to Saturday evening and wait for your video. I’m 69 and resonate so much with you. I love both of your table settings. The Tuscan Rose is so warm, cozy and colorful. The blue and white is gorgeous as well, but reminds me of cool, summer, classic vibes. For old friends and I choose the warm Tuscan Rose for cozy friendship conversation and laughter. I so miss dinner parties. For 34 years I would entertain once a month for 11 lady friends until Covid hit. I used to thrift for old rare English porcelain teacups/saucers until I had 12. So when I had a party and it was time for dessert, the ladies would rush in to the kitchen to pick out their favorite teacup for coffee or tea with dessert. They said it was the most favorite part of the evening. Plus I always made sure to have a little something to give out to each person to take home. Nothing expensive, just a little something…could be a little poem rolled up with a ribbon, piece of special candy, little trinket, coaster…..etc. Thank you for all your advise, reminiscing, thoughts and helpful ideas. Many decades ago when both my mother and mother-in-law were widowed, I made Mother's Day brunch for them. I used fresh cut flowers from my garden in my centerpiece. It had been a very long time since those two hard working ladies had been treated to being catered.. I miss both of them.

My story is close to the same as your friend. I was blindsided when my husband of 36 yrs left me for a mutual “friend” of 30 yrs. He tried his best to get me to join him with a mediator (of his choice). But I hired an attorney. He dragged this divorce out for 3 yrs because we was trying to hide monies, but I subpoenaed for documentation. Long story short, although the first 2 yrs were emotionally draining on me, the last 8 years have been the best years of my life! I know that your friend will bloom from this…keep checking in on her, supporting and loving her. My circle of friends shrank considerably when he walked out, but what counts is the quality, not the quantity 💕

A similar thing happened to me 17 yrs ago. We bought a house together and he dumped me the night I moved in. Left me holding the bag. I had a nervous breakdown and cried for months. Was 57 then. Got a job and went to work. Got thru it but my spunky spirit left. But aside from that, I do so love to set a beautiful table, cook yummy food for loved ones, and create magical experiences for friends and family. I give formal tea parties for my grandchildren 3 times a year...Christmas. valentines. Easter. Because I thrift the China plates and tea cups I can risk a child breaking one...but it's worth the risk because of how special it makes them feel. I am so sorry about your friend divorced, I know the feeling I was married for thirty one years .I WAS so shocked and betrayed. I had to get two lawyer neither one was any good .He owes me over one hundred thousand, and left the country. I have lately found out he has lung cancer ,an i am.praying for him. Dear Susan and Desi, I can't begin to tell you how much your videos have been a comfort for me. My partner and I separated, amicably, after 25 years together. It's been a crazy year as I was also diagnosed with autism and adhd at the age of 56. Your videos help me so much in giving me hope that I could make it on my own. I just about fell out of my chair laughing at the end with you and little Desi singing.....it was a belly laugh.....y'all are a fabulous team ♥ I absolutely love the Tuscany Rose pattern and have been searching at thrift shops for it but no luck yet....one of my favorites. Of the two, that's my favorite tablescape. My favorite color is purple so I'm drawn to it. I have a Pfaltzgraff pattern currently and it has purple in it. My heart hurts for your friend who's husband was so deceitful to her. I was married 28 years and felt that even married I had been "living alone" for many years. We were high school sweethearts and I was devastated when we divorced but managed to live through it. It was a tough road, but with my friends and God I came out on the other side a much stronger person. I think some of us used to make beautiful dinner table setting. Life changed and some have beautiful glasses etc still in the cupboard not used. Maybe take them out. Make a beautiful table just for yourself. We don't have to order a date online. Sometimes loving your own company can be just as memorable experience.

When i was married in the '80s, i used Martha's idea of different place settings. I would scrounge the garage sales, the flea market for single place settings of nice china style. I used mason jars and small bud vases, wine glasses and tiny flat bowls for candles and flowers, depending on what i was serving and who. Id use cheap fake pearls and rhinestone brooches as decor. Miss match platers and bowls that just went together. Vintage linens. I get yoyr message of just be open to possibilities and be creative. Great message today, Susan. Absolutely loved setting a beautiful table. Everything was either thrifted or very inexpensively purchased , cloth tablecloths, napkins and candles. My friends and I all came from middle class families and they were always thrilled to sit down to a beautifully set table. A moment of elegance and class which most of my group would usually not take time or interest to do. It was my passion and an act of love for my friends. Hi, I love your channel. I have been married for 53 years. As a young bride while visiting my grandmother, I asked her why she always set her table with her china and sterling and linen. She said, “I always set the table like company is coming for your grandfather, why would I set a nice table for company and not the man I love”…to this day, I always set our table with linen and use my best dishes and silver.

I love both of your Table Scapes!! So Pretty! My daughter has such a talent as yours to bring forth a beautiful Table! Yours reminded me of how hers come together. Sometimes, as life rolls along, we find that the person whom we chose to follow those wonderful paths of life, has veered off onto another path and we did not even see how silently and quietly that happened. I will pray for your friend. Right now, she may not think it, but once the clouds all clear out.. she is going to find so much joy and fun and happiness knowing she no longer is living in a false life. Independence of decisions and choices come to mind for one advantage! Regardless, She is lucky to have such a caring and sweet friend as you. 😅

Susan I “Loved” your table settings for both the blue and the Italian inspired colours. I have always through the years like to add something special when setting my table. You do have a gift for decor and you are so creative. Really enjoyed this but then you finished off singing “ When Irish eyes are Smiling”and it brought tears as my dad worked most of his life in a music store my uncle owned and he was Irish so the whole store was very Irish. My dad passed away 29 years ago tomorrow so I think he was wanting my attention when all of a sudden you sang this song, with Desi of course. 😂💓 I know St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner but it surprised me when you sang one of my mom and dad’s favourite songs. First I wanta say I’m dearly sorry for your friend who’s going through a divorce, I can relate to losing my big house down to an apartment after decades in my home. Although I was strong, it still broke my heart and I cried for 2 or 3 years into my pillow. I’ll keep her in my thoughts and prayers. I’d also say, don’t spend, save every cent. make HIM pay 💯% of the divorce, and ask for Alimony for life, especially if she’s disabled in any way. also take half of insurance policies and half of any investments. This comes from my own divorce and losses in 2009. And DON’T feel bad for asking what SHE deserves, every darn cent!! ….. Your tables are lovely Susan, you inspire me to do better, to be a host again in my small place . I’m excited to have a luncheon soon, with ladies in our condo building who look out for each other, in a way I never thought possible. They came to my rescue recently when my dog became sick, what a blessing they all are. … keep being you Susan you’re my inspiration. Do 🌷🌸🌷😅

The thing is, I too love twinkle lights, but the upkeep, the turning on, off, batteries......I have always plugged my delicate lights in, all year, left them on, unplugged them during the day when I got to it, or had a timer........"is this a me problem" ?

Hello, I am new to your channel and love both tables you did. Please tell your friend I have been in her spot. I worked as chef and had a catering company. My ex cleaned out our accounts and took the house. I was embarrassed and felt alone. I stopped cooking because I lost the passion I once had. It took time to rebuild myself, but I did. Please tell her that she is strong, smart, and beautiful. She does not need any man to take care of her. She will get through this, and she will be better than before. Tell keep her head high, but also forgive him. Don't forget, just forgive. Tell her to keep smiling and to kill him with kindness. She is amazing and she will come out on top.

I lost "EVERYTHING"...... things that can "never be replaced"..."3 times"....property, cars, my babies shadow boxes I made with their hair, baby shoes, baby jewlery, my deceased mother's shadow box w. my baby pictures of her & I together, her favorite valuable antique watch.....yes, the STUFF meant a lot, I've accumulated stuff, not as special as that stuff......bought my own cars, " nice cars", but those shadow boxes, my big roll top desk left w. all of my stationary, special pens, my credit cards & checks!......it's similar, "I think", to losing everything in a fire, flood.......?

What a wonderful video! I love both settings, the Tuscan more than the Stanford. The musical thread is always right on! Then suddenly. . . a judo chop to the throat. Susan, you are a wonderful Friend to Maggie. She's brave and strong to say to you, "sure, share it". I'm going to be praying for her because it's got to be difficult to 'lose a body part' like she has, her husband. It's been 10 years and I believe she's going to be alright. We never know when love turns into a habit. Let's pray for God's comfort and strength for her. BTW, I love those little lights!!!
