Hi Mark! So happy that you are doing video tutorials. I really stink at making these mandelas and hope to be half as good as you. With that being said I went out and bought some punching tools , manicure tools and I've been using drill bits too. My favorite dot so far is the nail in the eraser (maybe this is why I stink at it, lol ). Looking forward to seeing all of your videos. P.s. You are an excellent teacher and harbor freight should be giving you huge discounts. Keep up the fantastic work. From the boonies of Florida.

Thank you so much Kristin! I hope the magnifying glasses work out well for you. They were just a bit uncomfortable at first but it wasn't too long and they seemed to break in nicely. I want to give you a heartfelt thank you for offering such incredible videos! Your videos are what made me decide to try doing mandalas. My painting and drawing skills are very substandard. I really enjoy the structure and patterns of mandalas. Your videos do a great job of holding your hand through the process.

Im gonna get a fly tying magnifying glass with a light.. You can screw clamp it to your work area.. My dad had one.. He tied flies for fishing when he was alive... My glasses arent doing it either.

Thanks for the tips mark this Xmas 2017 I got my first mandalas kits and very nervous when I start doing my first stone anything else you could advise me on before I start ?

KZbin tutorials are so helpful! I learned from watching tutorials by Kristin Uhrig. I think I have watched #5 a couple hundred times lol. I also offer some tutorials as well. Don't be nervous. Just dive in and do a couple to get your feet wet and then maybe start working on form. It is a bunch of practice but dot mandalas are forgiving with distance. The further away you stand from them the imperfections melt into the beautiful patterns. I hope you have fun! I feel like when I am painting dot mandalas it is "me" time. I am only focusing on trying to put the dots where I want them.

I enjoy your video. I have a question about the large set of tools from HF. How heavy are they? I worry that my hands would get tried if they are heavy. KEEP ON DOTTING!!!

I have good hand strength so the weight is not an issue for me. I recommend going to your local HF and opening a box and holding the tools to see if the weight is a concern. Please get back to me if they are too heavy for you as I may have a alternative option for you.

Hi Mark, any issue with the punch set rusting? How do you maintain your set?

I am surprised I have not had any issues with rust a single time. When I got them I washed them with soapy water and dried them thoroughly. When I am dotting with them I usually just wipe them off with a damp paper towel then wipe them again with a dry towel. I hope this info helps.

The Pittsburgh set is much cheaper through Harbor Freight compared to Amazon. Less than $10 when you use their 20% coupon. You can use their coupon with online orders on their website too.

nice video. i dont like the black background that seems to be so popular with everyone doing dot art. the contrast to the colors is to great, and the black "pulls" the light out of the art piece. frankly it gives a kitsch appearance. much better would be a graded color, a white, a cream or something else.
