Hi Jerry. Thanks. the XY wing is hard to spot and it took me a while to spot it. The more advance techniques you know and better the chance of learning what to spot for.

This technique may help me. I'm having trouble on a few and can't figure out how to solve them. I'm looking for clues on how to do them. I'll look for this in the puzzles to see if it helps. Thanks.

HI Deborah, I suggest you look at the tutorials where I cover many tricks and techniques

Is there a general rule to follow? Is it just a group of 4 numbers in those three positions? Is it any "L" shaped group? What effect do the contents of the other 78 blocks have, if any? This is the only thing I find lacking in these otherwise fine tutorials. There's just an example or two, but no general rule to follow. It's hard to tell what to look for.

Thanks for your comment. There is no rule for the chain of pairs. except that you look for a set of cells with only 2 possible small numbers. Many of the advanced techniques require the ability to spot them. This takes time. the more puzzles you attempt the more you begin to spot . In many of my recent tutorials I have inserted rules. In this example I wanted to show that there are several paths to reach the same solution. Hang in there.

Hi Socrates, If you look at other recent tutorials you will note that I solve very diffcult puzzles using many procedures tricks and techniques. As my site is a learning site I have found as a teacher beginning players can be overwhelmed by too many techniques in one beginner lesson or tutorial. I suggest you look at tutorial #56.
