I'm a 72yo old maori fella, in New Zealand, who never reached the dizzying heights of University or Trade Certificated greatness, but I feel like an absolute scholar now I've learnt how to totally DEMOLISH HARD SUDOKU puzzles, thanks to you, Sudoku Guy. I've been keen on Sudokus for many years but I've been limited to solving the easy puzzles, maybe a few mediums, in our local Christchurch Press paper. But now, after following your excellent tutoring, I'm a champion. Thank you heaps, Sudoku Guy, I'm very happy to have known you. No other person teaches Sudoku as good as you. I KNOW, because I've tried them ALL.

At 12:32, what was the reason for saying that the 5/7 could only be a 7? I must have missed something, but don't know what it was.
@SudokuGuy4 жыл бұрын
a seven cannot fo in block 6 because ther is a 7 in that block and a 7 cannot go where ther is a matching pair. A matching pair cannot have any other numbers put in tose cells., acuase only the numbers of the matching pair can go there. Hope this helps Peter. Good question Row 1 has 4 empty cells 1,6,8,9. Only 1 and 8 can go in column 4 cell 1 becaus in column 4 you already have a 6 and a 9. Therfore only 1/8 can go in cell 4 row 1 .In row 1 there is already an 8 in cell 3 thus the cell 4 has to be 1. Hope this helps.

Well, a few mistakes, but that is how it goes. When you are going to do it yourself, mistakes will be present, so it is very nice to see how you handle them. 😃 I really enjoy your neat and cosy videos, your way of teaching is great. Last but not least, I have to challenge you, as I think you made another by yourself unnoticed mistake, but luckily you put the right number in the right square (there were two possible squares) as things evolved and the puzzle came out as a perfect solution. Can you spot it??? Look forward for more videos. Have a great day! Greetings from a sunny Sweden! ☀️☀️☀️

Hi Robin. I'm not yet confident about the significance of the "little numbers" when you get some way down the track. How can you be sure they are the only correct option when they're NOT part of a matching pair, but you eliminate one number? Can you always accept that knocking out one of them means the other must be correct? If so is this because you only write them down when there are only two places those numbers can go? I am never sure that there aren't other possible numbers that I haven't written in when they're not a "matching pair". Fried brain now but I will keep thinking!
@SudokuGuy3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can alway assume that if you have matching pairs then if one becomes a big number , the other number in the matching pair will also be a big number. Seems nobody has been aware of the following. While I was doing the sudoku (before watching your explanation) I discovered two ways of finishing it. One way: just exactly as you did. Second way: there is a Unique Rectangle pattern (Danger danger). Well, you have a matching pair of (34) in box 9. These are the rectangle's lower corners. Then, you have another 34-cell as the rectangle's upper left corner (box 6, column 7). So you, inmediately, check for the upper right rectangle's corner-cell and this is..."345". Therefore, in order to avoid the "forbidden pattern", this cell must be a 5. And this placement solves up the puzzle as well. I was wondering which way you'd choose. Well, that was a nice sudoku! Sorry for my english an regards from Spain!
