The finned X wing is difficult to spot. The more you find them the easier it becomes.

You are right. spotting advanced patterns takes practice. the more you do the advanced puzzles the better you will become. Hang in there and have fun.

I feel like I am missing something obvious: How do you know the 6 in column 8 is the fin - why not the 6 in column 9?

Good question. This example is based on column when you have an X wing on columns. Hope this helps.

@@SudokuGuy Thank you, but I'm still a bit confused. If I understand correctly: if the Xwing is based on colums, the fin has to be in the column? But how would I recognize where the fin goes if I'm making my own puzzle?
