@CalebJamesWhitaker Set the framerate to the framerate of your footage. For the kind of tracks MGM does, those are point tracks done in AE. You can alsom use mocha for the same type of track.

@FRISKIE889 For tracking - 1. A camera, obviously, with settings mentioned in other videos like a high shutter speed. 2. If you can, try to find out your camera's focal length when you shoot the video. It's usually written as tick marks on the lens. Otherwise it could be displayed on the camera's LCD screen. 3. If you can, make a distortion grid. This is basically just a giant checkerboard that you can paint on to foam board. Get the camera to stare at it. It helps Boujou in tracking. GL!

@GodsofFilmProduction Boujou is a Match-Moving Program, while mocha is a tracking program. Boujou will create a 3D enviroment and camera so that the program you export to will know how the camera moves. Mocha will just track the position of an object, so that when you parent something to a null, it will stick (2D Only)

@OtisandSlayer No, the focal length only changes for zooms. Try it out with a camera, zoom in onto an object and then try just 'dollying' in (moving the camera towards it) there's a big difference between the two. Boujou can (somehow) detect the difference and gives you the correct camera data for this. However, you can't move the camera towards the object and expect a Nodal Pan to work. You have to wait for the Free Move tut for that ;) Hope that was helpful.

@MikeDoesColour
@MikeDoesColour 13 жыл бұрын
@dillerninjaen Boujou tracks lots of different points within your shot, calculates how they move with each other and creates 3d camera data or null objects for your 3d project or comp. Mocha tracks an 'area' within your shot, like a sign or a bit of a road and gives you position, rotation and scale. data which you can C&P into a null object. Basically, Boujou= 3D tracking and Mocha = 2D.

5:00 if it's not perfect it's not because you didn't follow the tutorial. I've used lots of trackers professionally for over 4 years and it's literally NEVER been that easy. Although, we typically bring cameras into Maya for set reconstruction or cg elements. Maybe AE is easier. Like he said, read the manual if stuff goes wrong. These guys are amazing but they kinda glossed over a complex process. If you track all your pans like this and nothing ever goes wrong ever, you are blessed by VFX gods.

One crucial point that you missed at the end which had me lost. When you adjust the Z position of the object that you want set in the scene, you should mimic the position values of the null objects. I knew I had a good track because I could see the null objects sticking to the scene, but when I followed the instructions to add my test solid into the scene, it was way off. It's because I was sending it too far down the Z axis - you need to combine z axis with scale to get it looking right.

@creativevission0com Actually it's in one of his newer tutorials called "3D Set Extensions". He uses the plugin CameraTracker. CameraTracker is exponentially cheaper than Boujou, but Boujou has many more options and effects, whereas CameraTracker just tracks the video. (CameraTracker is $250.00, whereas Boujou is $10,000)

@Margalus89 What they're saying is an exception. "If you're on a mac you can use .mov files just fine" most programmes don't support videos for stuff like this, use an image sequence if you're not.

@LiamMichealYoung its probably because (like he said in the tutorial) the 3d solid get positioned at the same position as the camera, so you have to move the solid back in z space...

@MehlsackCoD4 You get shitloads of red lines sometimes because your null objects which are little red dots here are really big and you end up seeing the top right corners of them all over the screen. This happens when the scene geometry is really big. The scene's size is quite random in my experience, so generally after your first export, you would want to check the size on after effects. If you see red lines, the scale is too small and you need to bump it up quite a bit.

@DieEneSjoerd , @HalvardBK Cinema 4D is available on Mac. Why everyone thinks it's only for text I don't know. I use 3DS Max mainly but also use Cinema 4D, Blender, and Maya. They are all powerful and they can all do amazing VFX. They all do some things better. Cinema 4D is very powerful if you learn it and don't just read forums about it.

@0zedess0 the better your tracking data the faster the solve will be. if you're using for example a fisheye lens you also need to correct the distortion before tracking. and of course the faster your computer the faster the track (obvious)

@orika001 You can't export 3D in to after effects, you must render from 3dsmax first. I recommend using Nuke instead of After Effects if you do a lot of 3d compositing.

@FRISKIE889 Well, for free3d tracking, you could try voodoo, however, I don't think it exports to After Effects, but it exports to Blender, 3d Max, and more. Blender is free, 3D Max is expensive. If you google 3d Max and Blender, you could download them both for free. For 2D tracking, and I guess it it would work for a 3d track illusion, would be After Effects, but I recommend Mocha, which is an advanced tracking program that is included with Adobe After Effects CS5 and I think CS4 also.

@FRISKIE889 You use tracking to put fake objects in your scene. For example, you can motion track a T-shirt to put a logo on top of it. In this case though, there is a '3D tracking' process. This basically means that a program does a lot of tracking and then figures out how the real camera moved in 3D space. That then allows you to put things on the floor etc, like the 3D barrels or slingshot in this video. I hope this helps you further a bit ;) Read wikipedia 'Match moving' for more info!

Are you really sure the framerates are the same? If you are importing image sequences, make sure to right click on your image sequence in AE (in the project file list), click Main - Set interpolation (or something like that) and make sure the framerate is correct.
