Thanks a million, bro. I've figured that that's how it was supposed to be done, but I didn't quite understood because every time I've tried this, I'd get thrown. Seeing your inputs during the pressure helped me a lot.

This is important in lower levels - because you NEED to learn how to defend against throws -, but this same tech can be your doom in higher levels. People will just shimmy first and do throw after. If you're conditioned to late teching, you WILL eat shimmy after shimmy and die miserably. The best actual thing you can do is just block and wait for that short walk back that the opponent needs to do to shimmy and ATTACK low before he attacks you. That way you make the opponent more scared of shimmying and contribute to making his approaches more predictable. Shimmy is the reason why you see pro players eating throw after throw in the corner until they lose - but the point is that this is only likely to happen in the corner, where you shouldn't be in the first place. TDLR: Learn how to late tech properly, but use the technique with a grain of salt.

So this note which you described will be referenced as I notice progression of my style of play, being that I remain among the Ultra Bronze rank. Great tutorial. Advanced players will recognize this technique and blow it up by delaying the second jab. Never the less, it's still an important skill to learn. However, it's not a get out of jail free card. You should only use it sparingly or whenever you recognize your opponent loves to to tic throw. But at high level play (and since throw loops are gone) , it's better to just take the throw so you can reset the situation.

Ah the good old crouch tech. Still not the best at this mainly because the guy I play with the most uses Alex and I'm too busy trying to read/get out of his command grab on a wake up. Anyone know any tech to get out of the horrible meaty/powerbomb/baited reversal scenario since the took away the jump back OS? It is literally the worst. I've lost count of the times I read it wrong, tried to neutral or jump back and eaten a lariat which resets you into the same bastard scenario.
@nickclark18156 жыл бұрын
The only way is a pure guess, that's grappler's for ya.
@mdz_jimmy6 жыл бұрын
there's no good solution against command grab characters and that's exactly their strength. most players crack on defense because of that but you need to keep in mind that command grabs are very punishable so it's more likely for your opponent to do a normal attack.
@peyochin25836 жыл бұрын
James Spencer dash back quick or just use ligh attack for counter. Maybe that can help.
@bridgeburner9096 жыл бұрын
@Peyo Chin, that is not a always a good idea against Alex as his meaty is usually a lariat and it will hit you on back dash causing a crush counter and the same for a wake up jab. That lariat is disgusting now they've buffed it. You jump back or neutral it will hit you and it will reset you into exactly the same position following a dash from the opponent and it will destroy any attack you put out apart from an invisible DP. @Nick Clark, I feared that was the case as I've personally tried everything I can think of to get out it. I asked hoping for an answer that I've been too blind to see haha. @Jimmy, I've come to the conclusion after watching some your streams that I am far too hesitant to use my DP for fear of being read and crush countered. In this situation if you throw a normal button you eat a crush counter anyway and if you chose to do nothing there is a high chance of getting power bombed so what do you lose? I feel that I am a little too passive in comparison. People like you playing Ryu at Diamond level and succeeding give me motivation to continue to use him despite the struggle.
@peyochin25836 жыл бұрын
James Spencer if you play ryu. Just jump, but not back or forward. Wake up st.jab is an option for ryu. Alex is easy than luara. Combo for ryu always st.lp-> st.mp.

Yes but HOW do you know it's gonna be a throw? What is it that you're looking for?
@mdz_jimmy4 жыл бұрын
you can't know which is why late teching will always open yourself up to shimmies for example. late tech covers multiple options (which is why it's very useful) but since throws aren't techable on reaction you're opening yourself up, particularly to high level players.
@zeldamen806 жыл бұрын
yo does this work on the s.lk karin one ? and did I win if I shimmy my first lk ?
@mdz_jimmy6 жыл бұрын
yes this tech works against any normal. shimmy is a direct counter to this tech, people start using shimmy at upper gold league and higher, so if you're below that rank you're probably safe using this.

What is a tick throw
@mdz_jimmy6 жыл бұрын
I really should've answered this question IN the tutorial lol So it's very common for your opponent to use light attacks right before a throw to try and mess up your tech timing and to prevent you from backdashing or jumping out of a throw on wakeup. This video demonstrates that you can use late crouch tech multiple times in a row to defend against these strategies.

Do late crouch tech but only press throw when the opponent extends a limb be it for a normal or throw. There's like a tiny window after the opponent starts up his throw where you can still tech if you quickly press throw. Set up the dummy to do a throw on your wake up and keep trying to tech as late as possible to get a feel of that window then add in the tick throw set ups to get used to watching for button/throw animation start ups.

SingaporeStrayan Your mind might tell you that you “reacted“ to a limb coming forward but you actually just made an educated guess. Throws have 5 frames startup and then a couple of active frames. The fastest possible human reaction is 13 frames when you are super, super good.There is no way to tech that on reaction, you just kinda know when to press tech because you have been in that same situation so often.
@singaporestrayan63846 жыл бұрын
Rokkxl Well I agree that it's still more of a guess than a reaction, I still do get thrown every so often, just less 😂

others have pointed this out and it certainly has some advantages because it also beats shimmy attempts. it does lose to low attacks though, I guess in hindsight I could've at least mention this option.

@krypticavalanch4 жыл бұрын
this is bs though. you beat their throw. gd for you. sf4 you could punish with a combo, stand tech gave you faster timing for tech. sfv you stop the throw. the opponent has absolutely no reason to tick throw 100% of the time against 2/3 of the cast with reversals. you cant move out of the way due to proximity blocking. this system is shit. so every time they go for buttons, then if that dont work boom tick throw. shimmies are so powerful now because you have to make a MASSIVE guess and punish with low. in sf4 crouch teck was beat by meaties. meaties by block, block by throw, high tech by shimmy. and meatie.
@mdz_jimmy4 жыл бұрын
I'm honestly confused as to that you're trying to say. Are you saying late teching is too weak or too strong in SFV? At the end you say "in sf4 crouch teck was beat by meaties" which is not true if you consider the same late tech OS that is used in SFV. You also say "sf4 you could punish with a combo, stand tech gave you faster timing for tech. sfv you stop the throw" which again is wrong because you'd usually get thrown if you mistimed your late tech in SFIV. I also don't see why you're praising SFIV here for having a defensive option that immediately leads to offense.
@krypticavalanch4 жыл бұрын
@@mdz_jimmy what i mean is their is no incentive to not tick throw. most of the balance from fighting games comes from a risk vs reward scenario. in sf5 there is absolutely no reason not to go for a tick throw from a negative stand point. you will always be rewarded or put back into neutral unless they ex reversal which only a 3rd of the cast can do. what's the negative for going for a tick throw? whats the negative for perfectly executing late teching? if you go for frame traps, you and them are safe if they late tech. if you go for a tick throw, you and them are safe if they late tech perfectly aswell. it just leads to this bs scenario where 100% of the time, if someone pressures with frame traps and tick throws, it goes back to neutral if late teching was perfectly executed. then the only thing left is shimmies. in sf4 there was a bunch of defensive options that beat offensive options and a bunch of offensive options that beat defensive options. a huge portion of the cast had a reversal capable of blowing up the situation. and every character got atleast one a round with ultra. sfv is bs at low levels where throwing and tick throws are super strong and bs at high levels where their is no risk but all reward with tick throws. it just makes it so the players i struggle most against are players with ex reversals. i mean there are pro players where they lost because they got thrown a bunch or took the piss out of with shimmies. their is no bad risk involved. punk did it all the time. walk in, walk out, walk in, walk out.
@kirillfedtsov4 жыл бұрын
This is not helpful, Jimmy. It assumes that people stay consistent with their rythm. But i guess this is the best bet. Now you add tick shimmy
@mdz_jimmy4 жыл бұрын
there is no guaranteed option in any situation, all you can do is know about tech, pay attention to your opponent and adapt to their strategies. lower level players don't know how to handle tick throws so it's important for them to learn this at some point. people will randomly shoryuken on wakeup or in pressure situations until gold league (sometimes even within gold league) because they don't know they can cover meaty throw & regular attacks at the same time.
