Do hot cups destroy coasters?

Do you wait for the modge podge to dry before removing the stencil? Or is it still wet? Thanks.

I removed the stencil while still wet. 😊

Beautiful! I have a question... We’ll call the A side the side that was down in the coaster mold, so I’m assuming that came out smooth and with nice rounded edges? And the B side was the top/exposed part of the coaster in the mold which might have a lip that needed to be sanded? Do you sand the entire surface or just the edge of A or B? And if you sand the entire surface, which side do you stencil? Wondering if the entire surface is sanded so that the ModPodge/glitter have some grit to adhere to? Sorry, I’m generally an over-thinker but just want to make sure I follow exactly so I can achieve the same stunning results!

Hello! Side A does come out smooth w clean edges (if any imperfections in your mold, those will show in casted piece FYI). I sand side B to make edges smoother for doming process and so edges dont cut/are rough. Sanding and finishing the underside is a personal preference to me but others prefer to leave it as is. Side A can be lightly sanded to add some tooth for glue and resin (I sometimes skip sanding side A as I've never had an issue with delamination w my choice brands of resin). Lightly sanding will help protect against delamination (separation of the 2 resin layers) for sure though. Side A is usually the side I stencil. Hope that helps a little. 😉

+Steven Morgan Hi! I used Tree House brand from Hobby Lobby. I also use Krylon and Castin Craft Resin Spray. I have found Tree House and Castin Craft to have better results but will still leave slight impressions. I've been told the polyester resin also works best for coasters (I've not used poly resin for that so I can't verify and poly resin will still need a finishing spray on whatever side was exposed to air while curing). Hope that helps! 😊

I might try the polyester resin ive heard that may withstand the heat..I tried an enamel spray that helps a little but still leaves marks...I gave up on coasters untill I could find a heat resistant coating..Thanks for your help x

Do using a tissu do scratch on yours when you swipe the excess? Mine tend to get really superficial scratch whenever I swipe things on it, it unnerve me to no end ahahah and maybe I suspect that the brand of the resin I use may explain that?
@GrimmsCraftingTales8 жыл бұрын
Makojupiter Using tissue to wipe off my coaster does not leave scratches. Is your resin fully cured and properly mixed? If so, perhaps try a softer tissue or microfiber cloth to wipe your piece. What brand of resin do you use?
@DShore278 жыл бұрын
what did you do to seal the resin so hot cups can be placed on it?

I used an acrylic spray gloss. 😊
