Budget MTG Decks
All magic fun, all cards under a dollar
We here at Budget MTG Decks love playing constructed Magic: the Gathering! Whether it’s EDH / Commander, standard or modern, duel or multiplayer, we can’t get enough of it.
Our vision of MTG is a game which encourages strategic thinking, social interaction and above all…fun! To make this accessible to everyone we decided to lower the two largest barriers which people encounter with this game:
1: Cost of building a Magic deck.
2: Complexity of building a Magic deck.
Our mission at Budget MTG Decks is to provide full deck tech videos describing ready to play EDH / Commander and duel decks. With in depth commentary on each card and overall play style. To make sure the decks are truly budget we have limited the price of all our cards to under a dollar (with exception of the commanders). Now everyone can join the Magic: the Gathering fun!

Thanks so much for this series. A friend and I are just starting to get into Magic (well, she's getting _back_ into it, but that's neither here nor there) and, after about 15 years of Yugioh, there's a bit of confusion and I had trouble making heads or tails of First Strike and the Magic Wiki is so woefully lacking in information compared to the Yugioh Wiki that I wasn't understanding the simultaneous damage aspect of combat, so I couldn't grasp what made First Strike so useful; now I do thanks to your clear, concise explanation.

Budget MTG Decks Thanks again. So far, the only thing I think I may have issue with is fully understanding the stack; Yugioh has a similar concept in the form of chains, with each response forming a new link in the chain (and some cards requiring to be a specific number of links down the chain, but I've always found those to be too situational to be useful) and the last card in the chain resolving forth and so on and so forth. From what I've seen, it's just similar enough to Magic's stack to cause problems trying to compare the two, so I'm looking forward to your eventual video on the subject.
@BudgetMTGDecks

Hi! I had a question about conflicting cards. My card (5/4 Demonlord of Ashmouth with flying) also undying (When it dies it comes back under it's owners control with a +1+1 counter on it) My opponent played a card during his turn which is the enchantment Unhallowed pact. (When enchanted creature dies, return it to the battlefield under your control.) if my opponent casts that enchantment on omy demonlord, which card overrules when Demonlord dies? (and what about the +1+1) THanks!

The damage is done at the same time.
@UglyStru

So do creatures with vigilance get their health back after you attack with them and they get blocked? If so, do they get that back at the start of your opponents turn or your following turn? Also, do they get their health back after blocking and when does that occur? And for trample creatures, even if they are dead from the blocking creature, their damage still gets dealt to the opponent?
@BudgetMTGDecks
@BudgetMTGDecks 7 жыл бұрын
All creatures have damage removed from them at the end of each turn. Trample damage still goes through to your opponent even if the creature is killed during combat.

also the deathtouch like for example, a creature 1/3 with deathtouch fights against a creature also with 1/3 no deathtouch. Does the deathtouch kills no matter how much damage u have? and like the example above?
@BudgetMTGDecks
@BudgetMTGDecks 8 жыл бұрын
Deathtouch kills no matter how much damage is dealt. So 1 point of damage or 10 will all kill a creature regardless of toughness. So in the example above the 1/3 deathtoucher will kill the 1/3 non-deathtoucher without dying itself.

You always untap all your mana at the beginning of your turn so no matter how much mana you used during your turn and your opponents turn you will always have all of it available to you again at the beginning of your turn.

Hello, one thing i have a discussion with friends: if there is a 3/3 deathtouch blocked by two 3/3, what happens? thank you for helping in advance :)
@BudgetMTGDecks
@BudgetMTGDecks 7 жыл бұрын
The deathtoucher deals 1 point of damage to one 3/3 and 1 point of damage to the other 3/3 and 1 point of damage is wasted because it doesn't have trample and the two 3/3s together deal 6 damage to the deathtoucher...so all creatures die.

does lifelink trigger when the creature with lifelink gets attacked, or only when it attacks? Same question for trample and first strike. if a 3-2 creature with trample blocks a 2-2 creature who attacks, does the extra 1 damage go to the opponents health, or only if the creature with trample is attacking? and last, if a creature has first strike, does it work the same as blocking versus attacking? completely new and trying to figure things out, thanks
@BudgetMTGDecks

Good questions. All work for both attacking as defending except for trample. Trample only works when the creature is attacking.

In the Vigilance portion of the video, Steadfast Guard is a 2/2 and Raging Goblin is a 1/1. The Raging Goblin dies of course but shouldnt the leftover attack point from Steadfast Guard be dealt to the opponents life? In the video you said Steadfast Guard is fully blocked but why is that? I hate that this is the only thing i didn't understand lol. Awesome videos by the way!!!
@BudgetMTGDecks
@BudgetMTGDecks 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. Creatures always deal their full damage to the other creature and any excess damage is not dealt to the opponent. Visualize it as the Steadfast Guard running into the Raging Goblin and pummeling the poor goblin with all its might (even though half his strength would have been enough to finish the goblin off). Now creatures with "Trample" do exactly what you described earlier, they deal the necessary damage to kill the blocking creature and then deal the rest to the opponent.

and david what happens if a creature as negative power like -2/4 i get confused does it deal damage to itself or it dosent deal damage
@BudgetMTGDecks
@BudgetMTGDecks 8 жыл бұрын
Negative power means it simply deals no damage. So a -2/4 creature is equivalent to a 0/4 creature.

first strike only applies when the creature that have it is the attacker? or it applies both times? attacking and blocking?
@BudgetMTGDecks
@BudgetMTGDecks 8 жыл бұрын
It applies to combat +Kenneth Ulises Reyes Castelán. Combat is both attacking and blocking.

+TheEnigmaCode37 No, he had attacked with it in part 2. When a creature attacks it becomes tapped(so it can't block) until your next turn.

what if I attack with a creature with first strike and the opponent blocks with a creature with first strike?
@BudgetMTGDecks
@BudgetMTGDecks 8 жыл бұрын
Then they both deal damage to each other at the same time. The same as if two creatures without first strike deal damage to each other.

What is annihilator?
@BudgetMTGDecks
@BudgetMTGDecks 6 жыл бұрын
Annihilator abilities trigger and resolve during the declare attackers step. The defending player chooses and sacrifices the required number of permanents before he or she declares blockers. Any creatures sacrificed this way won't be able to block.

@BudgetMTGDecks
@BudgetMTGDecks 7 жыл бұрын
A creature with menace can't be blocked except by two or more creatures. So it can't be blocked by a single creature.

@BudgetMTGDecks
@BudgetMTGDecks 7 жыл бұрын
Yes you can, the "Format" you are playing determines exactly which editions are legal. Examples of formats are, Standard, Modern, Commander (also known as EDH).

@BudgetMTGDecks

Stuffy Doll will receive the damage, deal it to the chosen player and survive as indestructible creatures can't be killed by deathtouch.

What is *Regenerate* ?
@BudgetMTGDecks
@BudgetMTGDecks 6 жыл бұрын
Regeneration is a replacement effect which means: "The next time this permanent would be destroyed this turn, it isn't. Instead tap it, remove all damage from it, and remove it from combat."

If the card is defending, can it still use first strike? If so, and the opponent has first strike too, who strikes first?
@BudgetMTGDecks
@BudgetMTGDecks 9 жыл бұрын
Good question +Jared Gargus. First strike is a passive ability which means it always works, on the defense and offence. If both creatures have first strike they hit each other at the same time, just like two creatures without first strike would hit each other at the same time.

Ok I'm a bit confused with Trample and Combat, so if the creature does not have trample and its power 4, while my toughness is 3, I wouldn't take that difference of 1 as life damage?
@BudgetMTGDecks
@BudgetMTGDecks 8 жыл бұрын
Correct +LifeIsARide. As long as the creature is blocked it won't do damage to you (unless it has trample).

Budget MTG Decks Thanks, guess I'm a bit too used to Yu-Gi-Oh. Is that work banned? haha. My brother came across a few thousand MTG cards and they've just been sitting in the house for a year or 2, finally trying to see what the game is about. From what I've learned I might not like it as much. I'm trying a Green/White gain life / mana / attack points deck. Sadly it seems my brothers Red/Black burn deck is draining my LP quicker then I can gain them. xD
@BudgetMTGDecks
@BudgetMTGDecks 8 жыл бұрын
Well there you have it, if your brother is beating you the game will suck :P. As soon as you start beating your brother you will see the true joy of this game XD. All kidding aside, if you want really balanced decks to play against each other, look into our "Duel Decks" series on our channel.

How is double strike damage dealt?
@BudgetMTGDecks
