I have knit the 1x1 rib for the Field Sweater by Camilla Vad and decided i like the reverse side of the 1x1 rib better than the side showing as I knit.
I used a tubular cast on so both sides of the cast on look identical. I slightly prefer the reverse side of the ribbing as the knit stitches look just a little neater.
I decided to knit off the ribbing needle onto the body needle from the reverse direction and make the side that "was the wrong side" become the "right side". To prevent a hole, when i changed direction, i did a German Short row (created a double stitch) as soon as I started the first round, and then resolved the double stitch at the start of the second round.
If you used a long tail cast on, you may not want to do this as you will see all the "purl bumps" as the long tail cast on does not look the same from both sides. If you know right from the beginning you want to do this and you want to use the long tail cast on, you would knit the first row flat and then join in the round.
To be clear - This is NOT part of the pattern for the Field Sweater. This is not in any way a requirement for the sweater. This is just something I noticed and I CHOSE to do. There was only a slight difference and I may not have even bothered to do it in this case, but I had a request for a video to explain this process and thought this was a good opportunity.
