I really appreciate you showing us how to do smoke in after effects, and not requiring some kind of expensive third-party plugin.

There have been many muzzle flash tutorials for generic muzzle flashes on the internet, but none have shown you exactly how to make your own stock footage! Thank you so so much!!
@donnielsen22547 жыл бұрын
Exactly this. Every "create your own muzzle flash tutorial" is basically some guy telling you where to download a muzzle flash from. This tutorial is great.

Even after 10 years, this is the best Muzzle flash tutorial I've seen on KZbin. Just completed my first ever VFX shot with this. Final result looks amazing, thank you so much

This may be an older tutorial, but it is still relevant. The best muzzle flash, tutorial by far. May of the elements that he shows can be used in other techniques. I rarely watch a video from start to finish for many reasons. This video is close to perfect. It shows the correct amount of relevant information for a new user to After Effects to recreate the effects, without diverging from the topic and losing focus. Thank you for a great tutorial.
@IndependentVFX6 жыл бұрын
Wow - thank you for the great comment. Strangely enough Ive been thinking about these tutorials and wondering if they are too old. I would love to do a new and updated series on muzzle flash that could be even cleaner and quicker. But its great to hear you think these are still relevant. Thanks again!
@poppmusic11 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, your tutorial is better than anything I pay for from a well known online education site and is truthfully the best tutorial I've ever seen - and I've watched a lot. I used your technique in a short film to put full load "muzzle flashes" into takes with 1/4 load smaller flashes. I shot both, but the best performances were in the 1/4 load takes. The results were perfect. YOU have taught me After Effects. Thank you so much.

I think this is the best muzzle flash tutorial on youtube. Most of After effects users use stock footage to achive this kind of effect, including me. This is the first tutorial that shows how to do it all without using extra images or videos. You are really good, man. Thanks for the tutorial.

Robert, I will certainly try my best to maintain (and improve) the standard of tutorials on this channel. Thanks for taking the time to comment. And I completely agree with your other comment about snobbery towards AE in the VFX industry. Ive encountered it as well, but AE has always been "old faithful" for me, it really is my favorite piece of software. Ive always found it to be a truly capable and scalable tool for almost any VFX task. The swiss army knife of VFX packages.

I have to commend you on a job very well done. I've worked in the VFX industry for about 20 years, and I have to say your tutorials are incredible. Your delivery is very clear and easy to follow. This is an incredible free resource. Your fractal smoke work flow is very cool. It is an approach I hadn't tried before. As a Maya artist I am not a big fan of Element 3D, that said, I still enjoyed watching your tutorials. So thanks and keep up the great work. Robert Waterworth VFX Producer

It is great seeing After Effects being taught properly. There has always been a AE snobbery in the VFX world, First it was Flame and Inferno, then came Shake and Combustion, now it is Nuke. After Effects has been around since day 1. I have always used AE even when forced to use one of the above mentioned in a studio. I even taught Shake and Combustion for a few years. I have always favored AE. After Effects is a truly pro app and your tutorials are a perfect match.

Xtrememous - probably not, unless there is a huge demand for it. But basically, you follow the same steps as in this tutorial, but you make the smoke thinner. Instead of making a big muzzle flash, you can either leave it out or create a tiny little glow at the tip of the barrel using an orange solid and a small feathered circular mask.

@WilsonFilms1 - you could certainly skip the part where we create the flash from fractal noise if you have stock footage of muzzle flashes. But you will still need to add the fill flash that illuminates the actor and the environment.
