One thing I found to look super cool was to not do the small "pre flash", but instead to a small "post flash". I noticed that's what they did in John Wick, and to me it looks a little more natural than the pre flash.

Guys what is important ALWAYS is lighting, his face is in shade, so basically you the fire would add a flash to his dark side, which you have not added..... you sell VFX assets but you don't really know well how to integrate them.... hum....
