Honestly speaking it’s not about how long you study art it’s how you study it. Basically learn it intelligently sometimes from the basics to see if you really got what it takes (I recommend trying the face in a front view if you draw characters) it’s actually a lot harder than it looks not too discourage but many people can’t make it to the art industry as they lack *proper* practise

As someone who's been drawing on a phone. I can confidently say those high end stuff aren't necessary. But will definitely be good upgrades later in the long run. All you need bare minimum for digital art is a phone that won't die running Medibang/Ibispaint or CSP and your finger, or whatever functioning appendage you have that registers touches on devices. The small screen isn't a drawback drawing-wise but does make you wish you have a bigger display to fit more tools on-screen.

Just to add my two cents, I’ve been drawing on paper for years, and tried to make the switch to a screen less pad for digital art and it wasn’t clicking for me. A couple of months ago I bought the huion screen tablet you mentioned and it feels so much better to me. If you’ve done traditional art for a long time and want to make the switch to digital, I’d recommend a screen tablet.

I think this is subjective. I just made the switch. I've been drawing traditionally for 9 years. I really like the feel of a graphic tablet, and its so comfortable to use. For the tablet section; if you can't afford a standalone laptop/desktop computer AND a drawing tablet you can always get a 2-in1 hybrid laptop. It has a 360° hinge that allows you to fold it into a tablet along with a tablet mode that accommodates tablet interface with its pen included. Portable, usually affordable with good storage and specs and versatile as everything goes.

Samsung galaxy tab s6 lite is legit great tablet for drawing for a beginner. Costs less than a Wacom One and drawing experience is much better. It being a standalone tablet, you dont need a PC since there are some serviceable drawing apps for android. You can still connect the S6 lite to a PC and use it like a typical drawing tablet with an app called superdisplay (one time purchase) if you wish. Only real downside is smallish 10'' screen and it being an older mid-range model it doesn't have power to run latest games and such.

For small portable drawing pads, but also cheap, I really like the HUION H420X at around $23, or the Huion H430P which is around $33. I've used these tablets before, and is really good for small desk spaces but they don't have a screen. Nevertheless, they both have over 2000 levels of pressure sensitivity (I think 4096 for the H430 and 8192 for the H420X) and battery free pens, as well being very durable and in my experience, very consistent. Both tablets are compatible with chromebooks too, which means that you can use it on school work in school as well, which I found to be extremely helpful.

Cheaper than Apple if you want mobility and do not have a need for a computer, I would recommend Samsung Tab S6 Lite which is around 280$ (it has its own free S-Pen) plus its Android so you can get tons of apps of any kind but since we are on drawing then you'll have Sketchbook, IbisPaint, ArtFlow, Photoshop, Infinite Painter, Medibag and more. A plus that this tablet has over the cheapest Apple which is 329$ would be that it has a laminated screen. If you have a bigger budget then a Tab S7 would be also very good.

Something else I think would help is knowing how you draw. If you've been drawing on paper for 6+ years, starting digitally is gonna be a bit easy at first but you might fall off because the texture is not what you're used to. If you think that's you, try looking into getting a screen protector (if you're a screen tablet user) try finding one that fits your screen size. Although paperlike is highly acclaimed, you'll often find that regular screen protectors are just as good. Besides, you can always adjust the pressure sensitivity in-program to fit the feel of the screen protector.

Jokes aside, I've invested in almost every single tablet he has spoken about, and from my experiences: the Wacom One screen tablet is the best one to use if you're into that, the Intuos Pro Med is my favorite non screen tablet, and the iPad Pro is amazing for portability. I also use a "gaming half keyboard" for shortcuts and that has improved my speed immensely. Best advice I can give someone is: Use what works for you, and what your comfortable with. You don't need the most expensive rig to make good art. Your skill will be the same whether you have the most expensive wacom tablet, or the 80$ one.

Owning a intuos pro no screen tablet, a XP pen deco pro and the 16 inch screen tablet from XP pen I can recommend the cheaper option, the deco pro replaces my intuos cause buttons and design (perfect fit on my keyboard) don't buy the cheap screen tablets when you consider them. 16 inch makes a difference. Drawing on a screen tablet feels different. Still working on a regular one. Using Sai and CSP (check out Sai 2 it adds tools). 20 (sale) or 40 buck's for csp is a pretty good price. Not sure if the engine work's but krita seems OK for drawing with a 0 price tag (Mac, Linux and win).

One thing that's worth mentioning is that a lot of cheap, small non-screen tablets work with Android devices, meaning you can plug them into your phone and draw that way. However, I've encountered people saying that some tablets have their active area work weirdly with them, so look out for that. I've got an XP-Pen Star G960 and it works pretty well with my phone, however, it doesn't have a USB type-c (it has only Micro-USB and Mini-Usb) adapter and it's keys don't work with Androids, so keep that in mind too.

I have a Wacom intuos that I stopped using when I got my iPad and trust me, if you can try to get an iPad with procreate. While a non screen tablet does the job well, an iPad is just such a better option. I have an iPad Air 3 and literally the only issue I’ve faced was storage because I’m an idiot and save too many memes.

1:31 this is true because I've bought a tablet and been using it for a long time, I've snapped the stylus out of rage(I have bad track record of snapping pen in half when I'm angry) and it still works(somehow managed to miss the electronics but it started tracking slower and the tip sometimes fall out), punched it on the table tip side cuz I got annoyed that the tip kept felling off and it still works and I'm still drawing well I'm using the Gaoman M6 which is a China exclusive tablet, it works well but the buttons are waaay too small and easy to misclick the one above without looking

For people without computers and extremely poor budget Our last option is finger drawing or stylus drawing with phones.

I much prefer using one of the oversized-phone tablets like the Galaxy Tab and the iPad. Overpriced, but it's mobile and I don't have to hook it up to a computer like it's on life support.

Even though i really want to start drawing and get into digital art; what scares me is that i would spend a good amount of money but i dont even know how to draw in the first place, i tried getting an ipad a few years back but refunded it completely because i just didnt know what to do. That being said my drive to learn how to draw isnt gone i really want to learn it but i feel like ill just give up.

I think that might be a universal thing, honestly. I started digital drawing a year and a half ago now and i started woth one of the cheap screenless wacom tablets, just in case i didnt wanna stick in the game. But having spent the money, i felt more obligated to make use of my tablet. Sometimes, you've just gotta stick to trying to learn new things and have fun with them, when you feel like you wanna give up, either double down on your efforts, or take a break for an hour or two and then start again. The biggest advice i can give is to remember to just "play" with your tablet and program of choice. Dont go in thinking you'll draw masterpieces, just go in and scribble, experiment with brushes, and play with the color palette. Remember why you want to draw- the reason is usually for enjoyment, so make sure you're having fun with it

Perseverance and tenacity because if you do 2 sketches every 4 months like me then no improvement is going to happen. Worse yet you might regress since the scraps of prior knowledge will make you think that you reached any degree of improvement. All of that coupled with a feeling of defeat when you see that whatever you put on paper doesn't even remotely resemble what your mind envisioned.

Why wasn't Huion Kamvas 13 mentioned? It's $239 on their official website compared to the Pro version around $399. The main difference between the two is that the pro version has etched glass unlike the 13 having a plastic screen protector. Aside from the micro scratches it might be better than the Pro version
