Why does the net charge of n-type semiconductor is zero. It is actually -ve right. Anyone please help me with this.
@aalyashin81455 жыл бұрын
Because in the n type section pentavalent atoms are there as well as an intrinsics atoms are there isn't it??? Sooo the number of protons of pentavalent atoms is equal to the number of electrons of the pentavalent atoms and no. Of protons of instrinsic atoms is equal to the no. Of electrons of intrinsics atoms Simply in the n type crystal total number of electrons is equal to the no. Of protons and hence electrically neutral Perhaps you saying it as negative because there is an excess amount of electron present but in actual at 0K or -273.15°C the total no of electrons of whole the atoms is to the no. Of protons hence electrically neutral but when the n crystal is placed at room temperature the one excess electrons jumps from the valence band to conduction band that's why you were saying so isn't it?

Sir what is difference between depletion layer and potential barrier
@abdullahraja84965 жыл бұрын
Both things are same I. e depletion region is also known as potential barrier.
@asadfoujdar2074 жыл бұрын
Depletion layer is where there is no mobile charges it is order of micro meter But barrier potential is potential developed across the depletion layer which is of the order of 0.3-0.7 volt Both are not same thing

@nagenderram3956 жыл бұрын

As you said that overall charge is zero how
@harjeetkumar2034 жыл бұрын
Bcoz there is equal no. Of electron and proton on each semiconductor so net charge is zero that is neutral...hope you will understand
@gowrishetty50302 жыл бұрын
n type is negative, p-type is positive, however i think that it is just the depletion layer on the side of the n-type that is 0, due to the recombining of negative electrons and positive holes, there are no free charge carriers and thus because the charge carriers are depleted, it is the "depletion layer" and its only the depleted layer that has no charge, the part of the n-type semiconductor that is not depleted does not have no charge, it has a negative charge - just what i understood
@mukeshdahiya74946 жыл бұрын
Don't you think when minority charges move then potential gradient must come down
@ektajanu74764 жыл бұрын
Sir how can u say that holes have positive charge to attract electrons
@sravan65633 жыл бұрын
Anything which lacks electrons has positive charge. For example The stomach is empty(considered as positive and not always protons carries positive charge) and it can accept food(electrons)
@gowrishetty50302 жыл бұрын
the holes are positive because, if you doped a material with an impurity say an element in the 3rd period of the periodic table indium was introduced to silicon (4th period) , then it would form bonds with the silicon atoms all three of its atoms would be covalently bonded, but silicons fourth outer electron would be unbonded and would be free to move (delocalised) now, as the electron moves away from the silicon atom, a "positive hole" is created since the electron(negative)has moved away it creates a hole(positive) in its place
