Step 1: Set video playback speed to 50% Step 2: Laugh uncontrollably for minute or two because Nathaniel now magically sounds hammered Step 3: Follow along with ease as he is now moving at the speed of a normal, mortal human (Great tutorial, thanks man!)

Great video! If you wanna save loading time though, make a pattern out of it instead of copying it over and over. Like this, you can also use the pattern in other files! :)

Wow amazing! I have no idea how you completed all of those steps in 20 minutes. But I much prefer your concise way of teaching than some other tutorials. And fortunately there is a pause and rewind button.

Thank you Nick for explaining everything. I'm watching another teacher on KZbin but he/she just shows us what he's/she's doing but it's so nice to be able to hear what is going on. thank you, these videos mean a lot.

This is great! If you want to make a pattern of this, you set the pixels at 444 wide, and 384 vertical.

Really cool shapes! I feel like it would be helpful for you to utilize certain tricks for aligning the shapes together, such as 1) Outline Mode, 2) selecting a shape with the Selection Tool, then dragging one anchor point with the Direct Selection Tool to get it to snap exactly to another anchor point, 3) basic keyboard shortcuts like [Cmd/Ctrl]+C, +F, +B, +G, +D, etc. Really handy to know these tricks to take the guess work out of a method like this.

Hey Nathaniel. I had some problems with the blur values and film grain amount. they turned out different results then in your video. Turns out you are working at 300dpi and I'm on 72dpi. But you don't show that at the document creation at the start of your video. Maybe a tip for future videos.

Nice video! I would like to add a piece of advice if you allow me to. Whatch out using so many effects in a pattern. This makes the whole artwork file too big and hard to work with especially for print. Make sure that you keep the pattern is on separate linked file and rasterize it before submit it to the printer.

I love usually love the tutorials because I can always do them after I watch the video and I can see how it's mostly done before the video, but the pattern / shadow elements are hard to develop by myself without having the measurements for how much shadow, or where to put the gradient with the gradient tool. Any tips for how you designed the shadows on the individual segment before seeing the final product? did you have a reference image or is it just eyeballing?

Great tutorial, thanks! Although for the final part, it's easier to turn the shape into a pattern instead. Resize the tile to fit, and choose "Hex by Row" in tile type. and if you want to make changes, edit the final shape and that will effect the rest of pattern.
@tutvid
@tutvid 7 жыл бұрын
I debated doing do this, but didn't take the time to sort out how I would convert it to a pattern and make it all work. You're probably 100% right, though. It would only make sense that a pattern would be more efficient than me copy and pasting 100x, haha Thanks for the comment!!

My attention span is usually crap and I lose interest quite easily BUT because you were talking so fast for some reason I didn't drift off into space like usual lol This was awesome man thank you! lol If I could go back in time and tell my teachers why I didnt learn from them, its because they were talking too slow bhahahah (or maybe they just sucked at teaching! :s) AWESOME video!! Keep it up!!!

if it goes to fast for you, than lower the speed of the video. like 0.75 or 0.5 .. and you can click on subtitles, so you can read what is said. - it works

So cool!, it looks really sharp and clean! Good design idea and as always great tut, your cool charismatic nature makes it fun and interesting to watch. you should do an Illu tut on making an acoustic or electric guitar. maybe a PRS. that would be good for a course, i can see how many of the tools in Illustrator would come into play.

Excellent tutorial, thank you. I do have a question, is there a way to "optimize" this file? Optimize may be the wrong word, but my situation is this, I save the final result as an Illustrator 3 file so that I can import into ezcad, the problem is when I do this, it bogs down ezcad badly. Granted I'm on an engineering laptop with an Nvida Quadro a 48GB of RAM, and an i7 cpu with dual nvme ssd's in a raid config for performance, so working with the end result of this files PC impact should be minimal at best.

Lol, mine looks nothing like this. I tried going back and redoing shapes and it just keeps coming out super ugly. I got the shapes in the right spots but the shadows -- especially the grains! -- look terrible! And I made sure to put in the exact numbers. Also for the triangle shadow groups, if I did what you suggested the shadows were completely gone. I had to go down to a 20% shadow in order for them to appear. Are my settings just all wrong?
