"Taxi Cab"
I wanna fall inside your ghost
And fill up every hole inside my mind
And I want everyone to know
That I am half a soul divided
Sometimes we will die and sometimes we will fly away
Either way you're by my side until my dying days
And if I'm not there and I'm far away
I said, "Don't be afraid."
I said, "Don't be afraid. We're going home."
I wanna strip myself of breath
A breathless piece of death I've made for you
A mortal writing piece of song will help me carry on
But this you heard
Sometimes we will die and sometimes we will fly away
Either way you're by my side until my dying days
And if I'm not there and I'm far away
I said, "Don't be afraid."
I said, "Don't be afraid. We're going home."
So the hearse ran out of gas
A passenger person grabbed a map
And the driver inside it contrived a new route to save the past
And checked his watch and grabbed a cab
A beautifully plain taxi cab
A cab, had it cleared out back and two men started to unpack
Driving once again
But now this time there were three men
And then I heard one of them say,
"I know the night will turn to gray
I know the stars will start to fade
When all the darkness fades away
We had to steal him from his fate
So he could see another day."
Then I cracked open my box
Someone must have picked the lock
A little light revealed the spot
Where my fingernails had fought
Then I pushed it open more
Pushing up against the door
Then I sat up off the floor
And found the breath I was searching for
Then there were three men up front
All I saw were backs of heads
And then I asked them, "Am I alive and well or am I dreaming dead?
And then one turned around to say,
"We're driving toward the morning sun
Where all your blood is washed away
And all you did will be undone."
I said, "Don't be afraid."

The first song I heard from tøp was stressed out. I thought it was pretty good. I skipped the entire blurryface album and went straight to vessel. I got hooked to ode to sleep and migraine, and also all the others. I started to really like this band. I told my friend about it and she apparently told me to listen to this band a long time ago, and I said I would listen to a few songs when I get home. Guess I forgot. So then my friend and I started talking a bunch about the band. I also listened to blurryface and I absolutely loved it. I memorized lane boy cause it was too damn good. I showed my friend and my other friends that didn't like tøp so much only stressed out, they didn't really care. Then I went on Spotify and clicked to shuffle play. This song comes on and I'm like what dafuq is this. I realize tøp had another album and I listened to everything. I ended with watery eyes. I realize that these songs had so much meaning. Well I mean I realized that before but now even more.

(Continued)Addict with a pen and Taxi cab made me remember how depressed I was the year before and I had nothing to help me deal with it. I would cry every night saying I was worthless, and nobody would care if I died. When I tried telling people how depressed I was (not my parents they would have taken me to therapy and I didn't want that) they wouldn't take it seriously cause I was normally a happy person. That made me worse. Then at the end of that year I started listening more to MCR and that made me okay again? I dunno. I realized that I was worth it. But a little before I listening to stressed out it was starting to come back. But once I checked out all these tøp songs it was slowly leaving again. It comes back majorly sometimes but always leaves after a few of these songs. After a month or so, I found out kitchen sink then regional at best and I was so ashamed of myself of not finding that album sooner. Kitchen Sink really hit me hard cause the last bit (continued next comment)
@xLittleChaosx423
@xLittleChaosx423 8 жыл бұрын
Where he says "leave me alone, don't leave me alone" and it got louder and such reminded me of when I was depressed I would tell people to leave me alone and don't talk to me when actually I wanted someone by my side everyday. Then I found out anathema a couple months later (cause I didn't listen to every single song in the album yet) and I was like "woah" cause I sorta relate to that song still the most. It's telling people that you don't know what goes on in my mind, you don't know what I'm dealing with, and such and that was when I got totally into tøp. I was obsessed. I didn't listen to anything else besides these songs cause they helped me over this past year. For almost a year now I've been part of the clique and I wish I've been one longer but it's fine. Omg this was so long. Thank you to whoever read everything. Stay Alive, it's worth it |-/

My story of how I got into tøp is pretty similar to yours. I cry almost everytime I listen to him screaming "Don't leave me alone" in Kitchen Sink because I can just relate to that line so much. But really everytime I listen to any tøp song it just hits me so hard because I don't understand how a song can have so much meaning and reflect so much of what is going on inside my head. I loved reading your story my fren. |-/ Stay alive

People should realize there's no "fake" fans. There's new ones and old ones. The problem arises when the new ones lie and claim to be old ones. Just if you're new then know that, you are just as much of a fan but that doesn't make you an old fan. We're all clique so let's get along.

I can't stop hearing how Tyler refers to the Holy Trinity or three angels that saved him from committing suicide because of how he says "we had to save him from his fate so he could see another day" and then it follows up to when they speak to him saying "we're driving towards the sun where all your blood will wash away and all you did will be undone" and I can't stop imagining Tyler being so miserable back then and it actually hurts me when I think about it.......

Whenever I feel I have anxiety (I have an anxiety disorder), I look this song up, close my eyes, and when Tyler tells me not to be afraid, I believe him. I understand I'm going home and I know I will be okay. This is the song I have to calm myself (Trees, Goner, Ode To Sleep, Ruby, and Lovely are also very calming), and I wish I had had it earlier in my life. Especially about a year back when my anxiety was starting to ramp up. This song seriously works wonders and I have never been so thankful for something in my life. My 3 year old brother is afraid of the dark and sometimes cries for hours and isn't able to fall asleep. I always have to sit next to his bed to 'protect' him of the dark, and that one night he cried and cried and i couldn't make him stop. I started playing this song and he instantly stopped. Ever since we listen to taxi cab and march to the sea every evening and he never got as anxious again as he was before i listened to tøp with him.

This part pains yet comforts me so much. And I do believe it's religious, the fact that it's 3 men, and that Tyler couldn't see their faces. Their are biblical references of God hiding his "face", because humans couldn't handle it. I think that's what Tyler's referring to.

TOUR SPOILERS!!!!! This is just one of those songs that I love so much that it's like a problem. I love this song with all my heart, but I knew that "Oh, it's such an old song, I'd probly never get to hear it live..." Well, during the show I went to (the first one of the Bandito Tour), Tyler started playing his piano while doing a little speech like at his other shows. He says "This is an older song" or something along the lines of that and so I was expecting something from Vessel probably... I was sure he wouldn't play anything off self titled... He proceeded to say "This song's called Taxi Cab". I started s o b b i n g. I cried harder when he said that than I had in a long time... so hard that I couldn't hardly see the stage... I loved every bit of that show, but him performing Taxi Cab live was by far my favorite part.

this is legit a subtle christian song. i really like that. It talks about the three men in the cab (father, son, and the holy spirit). it also talks about how when he dies, all he did is undone and he is washed in the blood. it seems like a depressing song, but if you look deeper, its actually comforting.

I can have my own interpretation of music I listen to, thank you very much. A lot of songs don't have any mention of God in them, not even with a lot of bullshitting the lyrics. Why do you think this?
@VioletOwlz
@VioletOwlz 9 жыл бұрын
Glyding Spirtfire, you’re of course always allowed to have your own opinion of what a song means! Your interpretation, whatever it may be, is important. From a Christian perspective, a lot of Twenty One Pilots songs have a very deep meaning, even without the mention of God’s name. The last verse especially. It just makes us joyful when we see even a glimpse of God, even if it’s in the midst of our own despair, like the man trapped inside the box riding in a taxi cab to a place where all his wrong will be washed away. That’s what we believe in, that kind of hope. I wish you all the best!
@sorcerieie
@sorcerieie 9 жыл бұрын
VioletOwlz I think this is so true. And from a once Christian now atheist, personally I feel oddly like somethings, some meaning, is taken from my song when he does mention god or implies it. I just never had any luck with god or gods in general. But then again of course it's not my song, its tylers and now all of ours so what am I to say anything about his choice in lyrics. They still hit me in places I wasn't sure possible and I love them. I don't wanna rub anyone the wrong way

I love songs from self titled album but when I listen to them all I hear is the pain in Tyler's voice and how glad I am that this man didn't give up and stayed with us.

I mean I don’t think god exists, but I believe in music though! I agree though, it’s so hauntingly securing.

I've been struggling a lot lately. Stress is just piling up and its getting hard. I found a good way to cope though and some things solved themselves today. Choker was also released today and I realized how similar it sounded to this song. So I can back to listen to this and something felt so different. I can't quite describe it but it almost held me. I don't think I realized how perfect this song is until now

LYRICS I wanna fall inside your ghost And fill up every hole inside my mind And I want everyone to know That I am half a soul divided Sometimes we will die and sometimes we will fly away Either way you're by my side until my dying days And if I'm not there and I'm far away I said, don't be afraid I said, don't be afraid We're going home I wanna strip myself of breath A breathless beast of death I've made for you A mortal writing piece of song Will help me carry on But these you heard Sometimes we will die and sometimes we will fly away Either way you're by my side until my dying days And if I'm not there and I'm far away I said, don't be afraid I said, don't be afraid We're going home Okay So the hearse ran out of gas A passenger purse and grabbed a map And the driver inside it contrived a new route to save the past And checked his watch and grabbed a cab A beautifully planned taxi cab A cab, had it cleared out back And two men started to unpack Driving once again But now this time there were three men And then I heard one of them say I know the night will turn to gray I know the stars will start to fade When all the darkness fades away We had to steal him from his fate So he could see another day Then I cracked open my box Someone must have picked the lock A little light revealed the spot Where my fingernails had fought Then I pushed it open more, Pushing up against the door Then I sat up off the floor And found the brother we're searching for Then there were three men up front All I saw were backs of heads And then I asked them am I alive and well or am I dreaming dead And then one turned around to say We're driving toward the morning sun Where all your blood is washed away And all you did will be undone I said, don't be afraid I said, don't be afraid

imagine how nice it'd be to just lay down in the middle of a forest or something at night and just stare up at the dark sky while listening to this song and even though you're alone it would somehow amplify the beauty of this song and if you look around you can see the gentle swaying of the dark green leaves on the trees which hit you with a soft breeze and as you listen to tyler's voice it makes you feel even more relaxed ,, and you just sort of take in the wonderful smell of nature while listening thoughtfully to the strange lyrics in this song and at that moment you feel completed and as the song comes to an end everything in your life seems to suddenly make sense and you're at peace with yourself and it's all good and you feel safe and okay
