Ikr!!! I really like this song because of the true meaning of it. He is leaving, but he doesn't want to, but then he remembers that someone gave him love before he left. And the line "I begin to understand why God died" is him realizing how Jesus loved us so much, that He died for our sins. And he realizes that he feels the same way, he understands the feeling of such love that you would rather die than let your loved ones suffer/die too.

The scariest part of being alone, Is liking your empty home, It's a double edged blade, Made of security and pain, It's Depression's bed at 3 A.M, It's saying I'm okay with this, I really can't complain it's just, All I can see are walls now, Nothing but the fall now, No one ever knocks- hell, Wouldn't answer any how, Scared that if I open up, I wouldn't be able to shut up, Will it happen all over again? Just living inside my head. Curse the hand that made me, While my own hand it bled me. Forgiveness- forget this, It's simple to erect bricks.

"And then I felt chills in my bones, the breath I saw was not my own. I knew my skin that wrapped my frame wasn't made to play this game." Those words always give me chills. This is IMO one of the best Twenty One Pilots songs and it's so underrated.
@chekubechukwuma43078 жыл бұрын
Do you have any idea what those lyrics mean? I've been thinking for a while and I'm still confused.
@EmmaMortz8 жыл бұрын
+Chekube Chukwuma I think at the beginning of those lyrics he's talking about a loss of identity and that feeling of not fully recognising who you are inside anymore. Then it sorta moves on to the feeling of isolation from the rest of humanity when there's so many strange things going on inside your head. He relates this isolation to him being almost subhuman ("i knew my skin that wrapped my frame") and in his mind this means that he isn't supposed to live in this world anymore or "play this game". ... well at least that's what I think it means...heh
@maggieh18178 жыл бұрын
+Chekube Chukwuma I spent months trying to figure out the meaning of this song, and I finally came to a very strong interpretation. Tyler said in an interview that the only love song he wrote was Tear in my Heart. I believe that this song is not about Tyler’s relationship with another person, but about Tyler leaving a state of sin with God’s help. I hope my interpretation helps some of you appreciate this song even more. The air begins to feel a little thin As I start the car and then I begin To add the miles piled up behind me I barely feel a smile deep inside me -He’s “driving away” from his state of sin, but his tempted to go back And I begin to envy the headlights driving south I want to crack the door so I can just fall out But then I remember when you packed my car You reached in the back and buckled up your heart -As he’s tempted to go back to the South, where things “went south”, he remembers that he is doing what God wants him to do - turning away from his old ways and carrying on the right path, and God gave him His heart for the journey For me to drive away with I began to understand Why God died -Since he has God’s heart, he begins to understand that He died so that people like him could have the strength and saving grace to turn away from sin The demon sat there waiting on her porch It was a little dark so he held a makeshift torch And when my car was far out of sight He crept in her room and stayed there for the night -He knows that what he left was sinful, and he reflects on the demon there. It was a dark place, but it’s tempting because the demon holds a makeshift torch to make it seem light. But when he left, the demon stayed there, so he was safe. [2x] And then I felt chills in my bones The breath I saw was not my own I knew my skin that wrapped my frame Wasn't made to play this game And then I saw Him, torch in hand He laid it out, what he had planned And then I said, I'll take the grave Please, just send them all my way -The breath he saw was not his own, it was the Holy Spirit’s (same idea as in Holding onto You - “it seems a lot like flesh is all I got, not anymore, flesh out the door, swat!”) And he knew his skin, his own self was not made to play that game - he needed God. Then he saw God, and He had a torch to light the way. He told Tyler all of His plans for him, and Tyler decided to “kill” his old self, and asked God to send His plans on his way so he could follow them. I began to understand Why God died -Once again, he understands that God died to save us from sin The air begins to feel a little thin As we're waiting for the morning to begin But for now you told me to hold this jar And when I looked inside, I saw It held your heart -He’s waiting for the morning to begin so he can begin again. He’s still holding onto God’s heart to guide him away from and protect him from the demon. For me to walk away with I began to understand Why God died -He will walk with God’s heart from now on, fully understanding why He died. Hope this helps! |-/

it’s because they actually used to express themselves. now they are boring adult sellouts. I feel bad for saying it but when Emo musicians become adults and they stop having all the hormonal angst they can no longer write to the perspective of their audience. he has lost all nuance and subtlety with his lyrics. all their albums after vessel have sounded okay but they are surface level and just awful.

Except that, to me, if you really listen to the lyrics, it appears to be about the loss of a child between two split up parents and the questioning of faith afterwards. Her heart, to me, refers to a daughter. He's driving away with her heart buckled up in the backseat after painting a room pink. The jar is likely her ashes. I'm an Atheist, but I imagine that anyone of faith that loses a child is likely to question their "God" at some point during the grief no?

I spent months trying to figure out the meaning of this song, and I finally came to a very strong interpretation. |-/

I know they don't identify as a Christian band. However, I've realized how much more religious their self-titled album is than their other albums.
@twistykwisty33969 жыл бұрын
Or seems.
@tristanheerdt90079 жыл бұрын
+Kristin Bryant I think their new stuff has more religion in it! just layered. The whole entire Blurry album is about how he is handling is anxieties through his religion. The whole entire album he refers to himself as blurry face, until Goner, when he says "I have 2 faces, Blurry's the one I'm not" It's just cool to see how his mindset evolves that whole entire album.

+Lara Marie actually it is more accurate to say that self-titled and regional at best are not as popular as vessel and blurryface because they were independently released. As you probably know, vessel and blurryface were released by fueled by ramen, a well known label.

We went to high school together and he died not one month after we had graduated. We weren't super close either, but the impact of the news hit me hard and I couldn't sleep for many nights either. The nights do get better, all you can really do is be supportive and reminded of how precious those memories and friends are to you. Keep making good memories to look back on :) stay alive l-/

Imagine Hope I lived something like this, i was with a girl with depression, anxiety and she tried to commit suicide several times. she is fine now, and she is fine cause i was there for her. but i didn't wan to, i always wanted to run away from that relationship, but i knew her life was on my hands. it was hell i wanted to throw away that jar.. but i couldnt, cause her heart was in it. i tried to fight with her demons, and her demons became mine. Now.. i have anxiety and depression. i feel like dying now because i wasted 2 years of my life in that hell. but i did it for her. im glad she is fine... and yes... now i understand why God died for us.

I think this is my favorite twenty one pilots album. It's so genuine, and it is so calming. It also has a very Christian influence, me being Catholic. The amazing thing is that you don't need to be Christian for this music to have meaning. This music can be interpreted any way you want. It is so diverse, and accepting. This is way i will always love twenty one pilots.

I have a theory. And it actually makes some sense. So I think that Tyler has some friend or relative or someone close to him that died, like in taken by sleep where it says "you lived five days of the week". Lived, not living. Did that person die or move away or something? Then in this song it sort of sounds like he's talking about someone that isn't with him anymore, like "when you packed my car you buckled up your heart" etc. is sort of sounds like someone died or moved away or Tyler moved away or idk but it's just sorta something that I've been thinking about also when Tyler says something along the lines of someone giving him a jar that held their heart, and he walks away with it. Idk, just something to ponder
@clique.creatixns89968 жыл бұрын

The first time I heard this song it made me think of looking at myself introspectively through a mirror and try to pick out every flaw. Every flaw that made me want to run away and isolate myself from the world. The one's that caused those I loved to flee were those I saw as the main components of my personality. I wished more than ever I could run from this place, only to remember how many people I'd be disappointing by leaving, or staying just the same.
