For some reason it wasn't til this video that I realized how important Josh was to the band. Like Tyler always said Josh made the band who they are today but I always thought "yeah, hes a great and tight drummer, but there are so many other good drummers too". But just seeing the emotion Josh puts into his playing and the unspoken chemistry between the two... You can just feel that these two were meant to play music together.
@blackkatmuzic9 жыл бұрын
+drummerboy231434 what really gets me is the way Tyler looks over at Josh especially during those really emotional bits and instrumentals and you just feel its because he's desperately holding on to him, Josh is anchoring him in that moment and they've been through so much together that they both just understand and seeing one another and being around each other is all Tyler needs to grasp the strength in those moments

The way he sings feels so...raw. it almost feels like we should look away, like we're intruding on something so deeply human and personal that it's almost wrong to watch. But we need that. We need someone to create something--some piece of art that's almost disturbing in it's rawness, so we can face our own humanity too. That's what twenty one pilots has done for us. They've given us a mirror in which we can more easily view those parts of ourselves that we want to forget, but must not, and through that process, we begin to heal. Their music isn't just music anymore. It represents us--all of us, as humans, as people who've been broken and who've failed and who still find something within themselves that urges them to press on, even when the desert's dry and we've nearly forgotten what we began for.

I read a lot of comments that say they cried while listening, and I can't help but feel left out. I know I started to tear up the first time I heard this song, but I never cried. And as I listened to it more, it almost feels like this is the song. And by the song, I mean THE SONG. The song that can be mine, and is mine. I don't know how, but I just feel so collected and put together when listening to it. Like I wasn't scrambling in my mind for words to describe a feeling that I didn't even know, and still don't know. But now I don't care that I don't know, because someone else does. And he put it into so many words that were just right. Just the right amount. This band isn't just a band. It's an emotion. It's the feeling of understanding. It's a family.

I like yoghurt There's a lot to dig through because it's so full of symbolism. But it is Tyler talking to God, definitely. It seems to me Tyler is holding onto a little bit of water, God's love, in his hand, but otherwise looking inward for fulfillment. His mind is a mess and has nothing to offer him, but only makes it harder for him to reach back to God. And eventually he has to give up and beg God to take care of him. For me it's just right for all the times I know I'm not enough in myself and haven't been crying to God enough.

I really love how they add in some Christian meanings into their music. As a Christian, it's cool to see how they're being influenced so much in their music. In this one, the lyrics are about a Christian coming back to God after getting so caught up in the worldly things. He says he hasn't found a drop of water or a drop of life all this time, in all these things that we put our time into that don't matter as much as we desperately want them to. So this Christian is asking God to wash him with the water, with the life that he needed so badly. I mean, regardless of whether or not you believe in God, it's alright to appreciate the beauty of these lyrics. This is just one tiny little piece of why I love these guys to death.

This is the video that introduced me to twenty one pilots almost 2 years ago and Addict with a pen has been my favourite song of them ever since. It just means so much to me. And now I've come full circle. Nobody cares but I saw them live last week and they played the medley of their old songs at the b stage and I was not even 3 meters away from them when they sang this song and I almost started crying and I was screaming along to all the lyrics even though I can't rap (and I got every single world right. I'm proud of myself). Basically it was one of the best moments of my entire life. Screaming and crying along to one of my favourite songs. And now I'm sitting in bed wearing their tour merch, desperately wishing I could go back to that moment.

It's so so hard when you have a song that has everyone in the band on the verge of tears when you play it. Both Tyler AND Josh are just seconds away from breaking down throughout this entire song. It's so heartbreakingly beautiful. That's how you know it comes from a genuine place.
@NaniNyan1019 жыл бұрын
Is no one talking about how choked up Josh was at the end. It broke my heart. This song means so much to me. It basically describes the state of my faith last year at around this time. I go to a Christian school, and I always felt a struggle when connecting and finding God. And by the end of the summer, I was just desperate. I hadn't found a drop of life, of Him. But by the end of the school year, my junior year, I felt less alone. I surrounded myself with friends of the faith and I found the water I was looking for. Every time I hear this song I wanna break down because it hits so hard at home; I cry out of anguish but also of joy of being washed by His water finally. I still struggle, but I do feel less alone.

When I found out about twenty one pilots last summer, I was struggling with anorexia and self-harm. My dad had just passed and I had no idea what to do. The first song I listened to from them was House of Gold and I looked more into them. I found this song and this was the song that helped me the most. fandomsvsmuggles it's about crying out to God for help. The bible talks about the desires of worldly things being as useless as the chasing of the wind going back and forth back and forth accomplishing nothing. He's in the desert holding onto the water he has but desperately needs more. "I know we haven't talked in quite some time. I know I haven't been the best of sons." is the about prayer and living the way a son of God should live. Its a very deep song and that's why it bleeds the emotion that it does. Awesome song
@heatherparks84699 жыл бұрын
The raw emotion in Tyler's face is what really gets me. These songs aren't just words. They mean something to Tyler and to Josh and by sharing these songs with the world it can mean something to other people. I find it very easy to relate to tøp's songs and they become personal to me because of that. This band is something special.

The thing I love most about music is ambiguity. Tyler never actually says he's talking to God. It's just heavily implied. The ambiguity is what makes this song so good, though. It leaves the meaning up to the listeners interpretation. For instance. I actually place myself in this song, and rather a conversation with God, I have this conversation with my own father. He passed back in January, and there was a lot left unsaid between he and I. A lot that will never be said, and that's fine because I've found solace in this song.

Why are you playing the piano in class? Can you stop singing honestly, you sing everyday. Can you take those earbuds out?" They say these things because they don't understand that without this music I wouldn't be here to write this comment. I hide my emotions, let them ball up. With Twenty One Pilots, I don't feel so... Hopeless. Forlorn. This music has given me the solace I need! They ask why I listen to a guy who sounds like he's whining. I reply, because it's what's keeping me alive. They take it as a joke and giggle. Seriously. Don't make fun of the clique |-/

I guess there is nothing wrong with that. I know I have lost touch with God but some how I found my way back. I think it is really about how people personally interpret things and what they have taken in from the bible and sermons. I mean I'm not trying to convert you or anything so I hope you don't feel pressured by it. Have you been to church at all since? because sometimes it's maybe that you don't like how the church does things because I believe you have to feel comfortable in a church to take in the message. or is it something else?
@Revieweverything1009 жыл бұрын
+Sean M I know you posted this a couple of weeks ago, but I just wanted to encourage you as you're seeking. I've been there a number of times where God feels so distant, but the truth of the matter is that so often we build portray Christianity as a religion of feelings. "Do I feel Jesus?" and when we don't feel Him all of sudden we're lost and confused. But when you look at Scripture, nobody ever builds there relationship with Christ off of feelings. 1 John 5 says "I write these so that you *know* you have eternal life." Sometimes, God may feel far away, but our comfort is that because of what His Son did for us on the cross and rising from the dead, God no longer is far away from the one who trusts Jesus alone for salvation. I'll be praying for you as you seek. Just know that even when God feels far off, not to look to your feelings, but to look to the truth of His word.

Amazing. I feel every nuance of emotion in this man as he sits there pouring his heart out to the universe. I bet he felt alone in the few minutes while he was singing this song. NO! I HEARD YOU BROTHER! I HEARD YOUR CRIES, AND YOUR SILENCES. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

some people twitch to stop anxiety attacks. that's most likely why he does it.

I was watching life performances and acoustic sessions all giddy and happy, I accidentally clicked on this and my entire mood changed. I love this song so much.

Hey this is in 2018 ☺️... lol... anyways if you notice in most of his performances of addict with a pen Tyler always looks up at the sky. I think he’s trying to communicate with God. Ik it’s prob weird for people who aren’t religious, but for me it makes a lot of sense. He’s crying to God, “and you specialize in dying you hear me screaming father and I’m lying here just crying so wash me with your water” I feel like now in most of his performances, (yes he probably still has a lot of struggles) but now he found purpose, he found a way to live through life. He isn’t hurting as much as he used to (I’m sure singing this song brings back a lot of bad memories, in fact I’m sure singing a lot of his older songs do)so I think while singing this song he’s so appreciative to God for letting him live on, and get through his struggles to be able to preform that song for thousands of people. Idk it’s just something I noticed and I can relate to it. Anyways this was long but it was on my heart I hope you have an amazing day! Stay alive!! ||-// Edit: 0:33

I think he can't believe in God but is asking for help anyway. The part you citate is he asking for help and the part he says" I'm haven't found a drop of water" water is faith in him. Oh well, Im not Catholic or anything but it is what I think of this lyrics

@@JoaoAlves-wb4rr I liked the line of yours "I`m nor Catholic or anything" You can believe in God and don`t be Catholic... or anything))

@@alicetoniian7432 lol who cares, you knew what they meant... maybe dude thinks they are Catholic, or maybe he doesn't know the difference because he wasn't raisied into any religion. Sorry, I normally don't bother posting but people make mistakes all the time. You're probably younger, my advice is to pick your battles thoughtfully or you'll be fighting and unhappy for a lot of your life. 🙂

I'll start this by saying that I am not Christian. And yet, this song brings me to tears every damn time. The connection and faith that he has with God and the familial way he talks to Him. How he talks about straying away from his faith and begging to be taken back, and asking for help in doing so. Idk man, it just moves me in such an amazing way, it's hard to put into words.

this song not only makes me think of my recovery, but my mother and how hard she fought so hard to keep me off drugs before she passed in september; but like the sand, it always fell through the palms of my hands...

3:11 wow. Just wow. It just shows how real his lyrics are, they're so emotional and I think that's what we all need. We've become desensitised by our own feelings and thoughts. Tyler sings about them for us which makes the connection between us and him so strong. Tyler and Josh are legends, angels and heroes. A hero isn't someone who stops someone from killing themselves, it's someone who tells them that they will help you through it all and actually does. These two are heroes.
