Good videos very informative. I look at the letters and laugh. You should look into right to implied access. It stops them entering your grounds and knocking your door and can be applied to any legal person (company, organisation, individual)

Very informative, as always. It's worth mentioning that shouting "who is it?" is not always likely to lead to a candid reply "it's TV Licensing". In our experience, many TV Licensing goons are loathe to identify themselves on the doorstep, but there are some tell tale clues about who they are: - they'll be carrying a faux leather folder or clipboard and handheld device. - they'll have parked their car around the corner where you can't see it. - doorstep patter beginning "are you the current occupier/householder/Mr Bloggs" etc. - doorstep patter along the lines of "I need to know who you are until I confirm who I am, for data protection reasons". - doorstep patter along the lines of "I'm just here about the television".

you need to update your advice, generally the first thing they ask after you ask who they are is " are you mr/mrs...?" they always try get your name first before they id themselves its important that you never confirm any details with a door to door salesman just repeat the question "who are you?" if they still refuse to id or say " can only talk to mr/mrs..." slam the door in their face and if they persist knocking on your door dont be afraid to call either 999 or 101 to report a dodgy character knocking on your door and wont leave

Are the letters addressed to "resident" or to a named individual? If it was addressed to "resident" or "occupant" I wouldn't open the envelope. I'd write "not at this address" on the envelope and drop it in the mail.

They should be done under The Malicious Communications Act that makes it illegal in England and Wales to "send or deliver letters or other articles for the purpose of causing distress or anxiety".

Had a visit a year ago. The very FIRST thing these 2 strangers said was, "Are you the legal occupier?" THEY didn't identify themselves! I responded, "Who are YOU? When they replied, I simply said, "Please leave the property IMMEDIATELY!" I then closed the door.

My friend stopped paying for the TV licence several years ago. He received several visits from the Goons (he just closed the door) . Early last year in January he got another visit from TV licensing this time accompanied by two police officers with a warrant for entry. He let them in, he told the goon that he only watches on demand TV and proved it. The goon then cautioned him that he needed a TV licence to watch on demand and KZbin (which of course you don't) .my friend argued about this fact. The TV licensing goon then told the police officers to arrest my friend with obstruction, which they did even handcuffing him. He was then taken to the police station and interviewed under caution. Later he was dearrested and released with no charge. The TV licensing dropped all charges as well. He is in the process of sueing West Mercia police for wrongful arrest. This just proves the lengths TV licensing go to and that the police don't know the law.

The goon committed an offence by telling the coppers to arrest your friend. It is called 'interfering with a Constable in the execution of their duties'. The cops are committing, 'Assault, battery & false imprisonment', 'Actions they know, or should know are unlawful (section 26 of the courts and criminal justice act)', and 'Misconduct in a public office'.

He did get a letter from the Chief constable, apologising for the incident and an inquiry was underway. His wife had the presence of mind to record it on her phone. He has a very good solicitor who is pursuing this matter..

We have a commercial farm where an annex was rented by an elderly person. There was a free TV license for that but was never cancelled when they moved! and is now an office. I'm quite looking forward for a TV license inspector firstly to try and get through the security gates and secondly the 1/4 mile walk to the buildings! with the dogs and geese wandering around! I wonder if I put a TV up with live BBC on for the sheep they would need a license. All letters we get have all gone in the shredder for alternative straw and then eventually get shit upon! good place for these letters :)

I think you're right to say not to let them into the house. I use a TV as a computer monitor [we all do in our house], but none of our TVs are connected to an antenna. But I wouldn't trust some random to understand our broadband/intranet setup. What do you do if they turn up with a police officer or a bailiff?

I think that if you had an aerial attached it would not be proof of watching live television, it could be the case that it was there before you stopped needing a licence. But of course if you were to come off your HDMI or scart etc and use it for watching tv that would be different.

After recentlly cancelling my licence, I got an email saying if I don't pay up pronto they'll either cancel my licence (I thought I already did that just by cancelling my D/D!). or they'll pass my details onto a debt collection agency. Surely that would be illegal since there is no actual debt? You can take away the right to enter the boundaries under an old law that goes back to the Magna Carta..... Right to implied access. Make sure you tell any company or organisation beforehand and in plenty of time. This goes for debt collectors as well as this criminal organisation run by Capita

So a magistrate would hear that Mr Jones issued us the BBC goons revoked rights to be on their property can we have a warrant to enter said premises we think they watch BBC programs. Magistrate would refuse as you have a right to stop anyone from walking up your drive that you want if you are being harassed it is called injunction.

We decided to not renew our license at the beginning of the year so I told them we no longer need one and I got a reply stating that they will contact us in two years to check if we need one or not, we received an email with a reference number and that was that. Yesterday we received a red letter stating we are under investigation and that someone will be coming round to our property, it also says in the letter (that's in the bin were it belongs) that they have written to us several times and we have not responded, we'll that's a lie because we haven't received any other letter than the one Yesterday threatening us. I find it strange as the email was a pleasant one when I declared we no longer require a license then they start with the threatening letters. 😏

@@leebradshaw3549 I would take a photo of the document, and if necessary if it went to court, I insist that its tested which can show that alterations have been made to the document at a later time or date - it's called carbon testing I believe, and been used in times gone by to show police had tampered with interview notes to fit up criminals, and brought corrupt police officers to justice after convictions were quashed after it was proved evidence was unreliable It used to be that police used to write everything down during interviews, but with PACE, it became mandatory to audio and later video recorded interviews

My friend stunned me the other day, she owns a takeaway deli/sandwich shop so has no tv’s at all as people are there for at most around 10 mins (big order) she’s had a letter stating that she MUST have a license to cover any customers that may come in and watch tv on phones/tablets 😮😮 this has got to be a new low, I’ve told her to tell them to fuck off if they turn up

Don't tell them your name either, and don't confirm it if they ask if you are Mr Whoever you might be. If you confirm your name they may try to stitch you up with a search warrant or worse.

I entered into Lawful Rebellion against the TV Licensing Authority and have never been bothered by them since then. You can learn how to do this by googling Lawful Rebellion and going to the page on TV licenses

I've been free of the bbc tax for 10 years never had a visit. I declare that I do not require one everytime they ask it's that easy And they need to be a civil servant to be classed as an officer Like lolly pop people

Opt out of needing a tv licence via the bbc website. In 2 years they will contact to confirm if your situation has changed. Opt out again and it’s sorted. This way, you avoid the letters.

@chips and gravy - I opted out in March 2019 and read the conditions. I’ve had no letters or visits yet. I will opt out again next month as the conditions state. They are welcome to visit and have a conversation as we never watch live tv, record live tv or watch bbc Iplayer.

I still can't understand some of the confrontation with agents. I just went to licenscing website and made a declaration via email to them that I wasn't longer watching live TV etc, and I got an acknowledgement email and that was that. I just cancelled that request when I moved in with girlfriend, but had no hassle over it.

I don't have any TV'S in my house any more. Both of my screens are what they call Monitor Types as used by Computers. But you can still input from your dvd player or video tape machine or by computer or even a Google TV dongle. So you could say NO TV HERE.

I wouldn't say anything regarding TV or no TV in the house as they could use it as grounds for a warrant. Do not say anything at all other than to ask them if they have business use insurance on their car... that usually makes them go running.

if its capable of receiving the internet then it's capable of receiving a BBC signal on said internet. they have all bases covered as I doubt there are more than 5 homes in the UK that don't have a tv/internet connection even if its just on the phone

@MB think you misunderstood, of course prosecution depends upon the BBC proving beyond a reasonable doubt that you watched them but just I was referring to the fact that only a tiny minority of UK homes could, these days, claim no device in the home capable of receiving a signal which the OP was implying in his post

hi jon great videos, I got one of these so I phone them and they are sending me a letter to say I do not need a licence really helpful and I will not receive a visit from the bad guys thanks for your help

Cancelled this week. Whenever I think I'll watch a bit of TV there's absolutely nothing that interests me it's overpriced rubbish and not worth a penny.. thanks for all your info .
