Jimmy, we need more of this. A little bit of steppin’ out from the comfort zone is the secret sauce.

I absolutely loved this version of Steppin’ Out. Nicely done Joe and not only are you a great vocalist, but a great pianist too.

This was awesome. Love the charlie brown feel. There was a bit of funk, Jazz and extra piano solos. This was an excellent effort from Joe Jackson and the Roots.

Wow. This rendition was awesome. The Roots took it to another level. You can see Joe is on cloud nine during and after the performance. I generally don't watch NBC at night but the Roots are frickin' geniuses. I can't abide the negativity here in some of these comments.

It was poorly mic'd and mixed worse. I can't even hear what's going on. See that Sousaphone? It's inaudible.

This song is dope but i would only have Joe Jackson sing the Chorus. Dag i would never imagine. I loved this song when i was little. Also loved the roots going back to the Organix album. Would have never thought of seeing this.

It's a very Joe Jackson thing to do to make it interesting for himself. He bad mouthed pop music in a lot of his interviews. He probably didn't like performing his hits repeatedly.

Would have liked the bass to drive this more. Maybe even lock in with drums and make it more reggaeton. Maybe it was just the balance, or lack thereof...

All the people commenting on how bad this sounds: you’re wrong, you’re probably not a musician, and you likely don’t understand music. The song was rearranged in a jazz/funk style that is much looser than the original version, and the results are spectacular. Questlove in particular is smoking, with a complex but tight beat that most musical Neanderthals wouldn’t understand. Expand your horizons - that’s what Joe’s been doing his whole career. You’re obviously not paying attention.
