Just ran across this, and can't help laughing at how serious you took this movie lol. I hope you researched how news was produced back then after this and learned some of the history of your profession! All the best.

3:24 When I was a kid in the 80's in Philadelphia the news had a metal backed map and they stuck magnets on it shaped like clouds, sun, etc. I believe they had a dry erase marker that he used to write details like the temps on them.

In '70s There was the 6pm(prime time) news and the 11pm news, and then either FantasyIsland or LoveBoat.
@paulcarfantan6688 Жыл бұрын
Ah yes, Fantasy Island, "Boss, boss, the plane, the plane !" and "Love Boat" with Gavin MacLoed and the others. Used to watch both in the late 70s.

You should watch the Mary Tyler More Show from the 70's. She worked at a local TV news station.

10:12 I don't recall the movie that well. Do they really say he's a meteorologist? Or is he just reporting the weather? It was kind of a joke back in the day that weather reporters weren't very bright.
@alanzlotkowski26953 ай бұрын
Brick is not a meteorologist; at this time, weatherman were just actors. In the sixties, weather was often done by clowns, puppets, "characters", etc.; it was done for entertainment. My local station got it's first meteorologist in 1978.

Not sure if anyone answered some of these questions, but the on air crew would generally be the Anchor, the meteorologist, the sports guy, and Paul Rudd would be the investigative/ on scene reporter. His job would be to investigate things on your local level (crime rates, elderly care, school funding, etc) and put together stories which often times would be run through multiple nights or report directly from somewhere. That was local news. Now in a bigger City you'd probably have another Anchor and another investigative reporter, and if you were national news you'd have foreign correspondents, people who only did the white house beat, etc. Your local would generally start with the local or national news whatever was important that day, then move to whichever you didn't start with. First commercial After that your investigative piece, then weather, second commercial Last would be sports then recaps or puff pieces. Didn't always work like that depending on the days news, but that was the general formula.... Probably still is. And I believe those weather boards were magnets.

It’s a crime this movie isn’t part of journalism school curriculum.

8:52 A couple years ago I saw them doing a weather report "in the field" in my neighborhood. I stayed out of the shot but after they cut I went to talk to the reporter and camera man since I work in TV. I was curious about the laptop they had set up under the camera facing the reporter. She explained that the camera has a delay, but on the laptop they have a Skype connection which is instant so she knows when to start talking based on that.

How do you do weather without green screen? With velcro or magnetic cutouts of everything representing weather. The weather person just slaps them up as they talk. I know nothing about news, I'm just guessing. I am stoned at the moment! LoL
@alanzlotkowski26953 ай бұрын
My local weatherman used a black magic marker to write on a map of the area; he was very animated, and put on a good show. Weather wasn't serious at this time. Another local station had a weather girl who used a puppet of a dragon.

Before will Farrell became an actor he wanted to be an anchor man. That's how he learned to read lines from a teleprompter.

Are you kidding me? This is Will Farrell. It’s a comedy. It’s not supposed to be accurate. It’s supposed to be funny. And it is. Analyzing an obviously exaggerated portrayal of what a news team would be like. Unless you are telling us that rival news teams have rumbles in the street, I’m pretty sure most if not all the audience realizes this is not a real depiction of the way it is. There are probably movies that you could really offer some insights as to how things really are done in a newsroom. This is not that film

Nice! Glad I could inspire - another possible idea if this format works out is reacting to big news bloopers. They're often funny or surprising to the people that watch them but it would be interesting to hear from the perspective of a producer of what might be going through your head (other than curse words) in that situation and how you might deal with that situation behind the scenes. A good example of a major one is the one that happened to BBC News at Ten in the UK in 2017 where poor anchor Huw Edwards was sat waiting for 4 minutes on air for things to start. Cut down version shown here - kzbin.info/www/bejne/najWpYCdrdt-jLs

You need to learn to do a reaction video. Watch the movie. Record yourself while you're watching. Stream the movie and you in a box in the corner reacting to the video... No one wants to see the video cut back and forth to you. This is not your news room. Disappointing vid. :-/
