What a joyride, diverse and interesting, with knowledgable commentaries. Almost like a theme park attraction with bridges, tunnels, windmills and ski slopes. The drivers eye perspective is infact available to passengers who dont mind standing up the whole tour.

The part between Gröndal and the 90 degree right-turn just before Liljeholmen had trams running already in 1923. It was one of three tramlines (16 to Mälarhöjden, 17 to Midsommarkransen & 18 to Gröndal) from Slussen to the south-west suburbans of Stockholm. Line 17 was step-by-step extended all the way to Fruängen in 1956. Lines 16 and 17 runs until the subway (T-banan) open it's red lines in 1964. Line 18 is replaced by a trolley-bus line in 1949

It's interesting that the trams are controlled by both railway signals and traffic signals like at Bällsta bro (8:26). In Melbourne, even if it's on a lightrail section rather than a street running section, it's just controlled by traffic signals.

16:20 Until 2017, different sections of Tvärbanan had incompatible signalling systems. This was because the network was built in sections, and the signalling system for each section was tendered separately. Trams couldn't run through Alvik station, so passengers had to get off and change trams there to continue their journey.

Jag undrar, är det okej att filma gemene man utan att täcka över ansikten? T ex så uppger filmen exakt datum för resan. Kan inte detta ha med personlig integritet att göra? En uppriktig undran, inget annat. I övrigt en kul och intressant resa :)

Heres something you may find interesting. :) The name of my country has nothing to do with the interesting and delicious bird 'turkey'...... .....but the name of the bird does have a connection with the name of my country, let me explain. :) In the past 40 years 37 countries have changed their name. Obviously one can not change the name of an apple or an orange etc in other languages, but country names are like peoples' individual names, so if you're named John we don't call you Karen. :) Name of my country has always been Türkiye, it's been known as such since around the 1200's. The name it self has a suffix, '-iye', that is Turk-iye, where the -iye suffix means 'land of/belonging to', just like the Latin suffix of '-ia', which exists in such country names like Austr-ia, Austral-ia, Indones-ia etc. Basically, the use of '-iye/-ia' is the same as the the use of '-land' suffix in country names like Ire(Eire)-land, Po(le)-land, Eng(Anglo)-land and so on and so on. Many would remember the country Czechoslovak-ia which changed it's name to Czech Republic and a few years ago changed that to Czechia (that is Czech-ia). The Latin suffix -ia probably originates from Turkish -iye as Turkish been over 10,000 years is much older than Latin which is around 1300 years old. Spelled in different languages in different ways to phonetically resemble (to sound like) 'Türkiye' we got various spellings like; Turq-uía (in Spanish), Turch-ia (in Italian), Turq-uie (in French) Turk-ei (in German) Turk-ey (in English) Mind you this was way before the animal we currently know as turkey was found by the europeans when they explored the north americas. The bird was first sent to europe from north americas in the year 1519, so up until that point there was no bird named turkey.... ...they came across the bird and thought it was a specie of the fowl/chicken they had been buying from the country of Turkiye at the time, so they named the bird 'Turkey Fowl' to define 'Turkish Chicken'... ....just like how a dog breed is known as German Shepherd (because it's from Germany), American Bulldog, British Terrier, Greek Harehound etc etc. In time you don't get to call the harehound simply as Greek or you don't call the terrier Britirsh, or shepherd as simply German, but in time the Turkish Fowl started to be called just 'Turkey' and later 'turkey', and this went on for hundreds of years. Now in modern times, this caused confusion, especially when we have people across the world unable to point to their own country on an atlas. Basically we didn't change the name of our country, we changed the mistake made in the English language. : ) So, there's some tid bit information for you to have a great day, if you read upto this point you have a great night too, ohh just have a wonderfull life. : ) Best wishes. ;)

Tvärbanan is actually more light rail than tram I would say. Tram basically means mostly street running. Although the term is used differently in Swedish, with Göteborgs spårvagn having significant dedicated right of way for instance.
@HenrysAdventures
@HenrysAdventures 9 ай бұрын
I've said exactly that in the video! I classes a tram system however as it does have street running and the vehicles used are trams. A ture light rail system would be something like the Docklands Light Railway in London or the Tyne & Wear Metro which uses light vehicles and has no street running.

It is a nice video, a lovely ride, but it is a bit sad to see that the region is so car orientated and that there are so few bikes, some say it is the weather, but right cloches and the streets are clear and easy to bike on, but the positive is to see so little vandalism in form of tagging and graffiti. People dont like to bike in the winter its as simple as that, i dont bike in the winter because weather is too unreliable unless you're really experienced with a good bike and wheels. Biking on ice/slush sucks and with how weather can be here you can bike to work on clear roads then have to bike home on black ice, its just too awful for alot of regular bikers to bike in wintertime only the hardcore guys do it. In summer there are easily 10x as many bikes as during winter but also solna is a more car oriented part of the city (or well technically its another city).

I would consider this more of a light rail with street running than a tramway. OpenRailwayMap shows it as light rail. Those level crossings on the reserved track sections are gateless. Swedish drivers must be better trusted to not try to commit Hari-Kari than the rest of the world.
