"I don't think the songs are bad, I think maybe the timing is wrong". That Freddie quote is probably right. "Hot Space" went out when disco music was slowly going out of favor, in fact it was the middle of anti-disco movement (in the U.S. especially). But on the other hand many songs are similiar to Michael Jackson's "Thriller", that was released just a couple of months later and became a smash, so... You never know.
