Recently started to use TVP. I eat meat but not alot. I make a chili with TVP and I cannot tell it's not meat. And the chili is even better the next day!

good work ....why not incorporate spices and veg powders while extruding the product to get almost ready to use product ....although some textural changes could occur that can be adjusted [FT -NPD ]

So is TVP the same Morning Star Crumbles and Gardein chicken I’ve been eating for years? I’ve used the crumbles in chili for years. People don’t know it’s not ground beef! If so, it’s good to know if I can get the same for cheaper and not have to refrigerate it.

It's not really vegetarian/vegan, but insects are an excellent source of protein and as a food source are way more environmentally friendly. The wikipedia article on entomophagy (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entomophagy#Environmental_benefits) has many more details. There's more of a taboo against eating insects in Western cultures, whereas Eastern cultures are more likely to consume various edible bugs. I've actually tried grasshopper flour before and it has a very earthy taste- not something I'd eat regularly unless combined with spices or cocoa powder with a generous amount of sugar. It's not straightforward to acquire in the U.S. - I basically went to a pet store, bought grasshoppers from the reptile section, and ground them up with a coffee grinder.
