I bought the new RR310 3 weeks ago and I'm very much satisfied by the bike. The Bike's throttle response, suspension and braking is superb. TVS has done a splendid job tuning this machine. Coming to the value proposition of the bike I slightly disagree with Shumi. Yes, it could be best if this was under 2.5 ex showroom. But this how I approached the buying decision on this - I was considering Aprilia RS 457 which including quickshifter was around 5.2 Lac on road, but the issues with the axle and braking in Aprilia was a concern that I was not happy to adjust with. The other option I was considering was Duke 390 costing 3.7 Lac on road, which had awesome performance and braking, but the vibration was too much and when you try to ride it at slow speeds or cruise in the city it is not very friendly and add to that the colour schemes of current Duke's it is not appealing. When I took the test drive of RR310, I found it to be the best balance of power and ease of use and the bike looks definitely more premium. The other part I want to highlight I have had an Apache RTR 200 4V since 2018 and have personally had a very good service experience in Noida. I'm not aware of rest of the parts of the country. But my bike was out of RSA coverage and broke down once and the service guys picked up the bike from home without any additional charge and they always chase for feedback and ratings.

Being an ex Apache fanboi (😂) I had purchased every single Apache 160,180,2004v &310, and then deciding to buy RE INT 650 I would say this with absolute confidence that your age plays a role. Earlier I used to not mind the vibrations and I was very happy with the constant maintenance required with RR 310 v1 just for its shear adrenaline rush of revving to motor and now that I am 33 I absolutely appreciate the lazy 6th gear overtaking capabilities of INT 650 and with that lovely creamy butter smooth engine riding 703kms (ujjain-alibaug) in a day without any fatigue to the bike or the rider. Everytime I watch Motoroinc I am amazed at the depth , clarity, knowledge and in general concept that they have about automobiles. It is mind blowing. Never did it ever stuck me that TVS might actually be buying time for something better or much more suited for the current and probabale future market demand and this thought process of Shumi really makes sense because there is literally no reason for TVS to cling on to 310 when market has moved upto 400-450. These sort of updates will not do anything significant for the product and "holding the station for something else to arrive" is a very convincing statement at this point of time. I would love to see an adventure bike from TVS in sub 450-500cc ball park. I feel ADV is a natural fit for almost every kind of daily riding scenario. Getting an ADV right can be a challenge but TVS has off-roading experience. So I hope they have that base ready to build upon it. Lastly everytime I watch a TVS 310 series' video, that one statement by Shumi resonates in my ears " IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN TVS FIRST , BMW LATER". Tvs simply knows India better. Hoping for the best.😊

The issue is that the service experience is so bad, I would never recommend a TVS to anyone. Its basically saying the customer is always wrong and how can we make the customer feel bad about buying our product from the first day after they bought it. And to top it they have very short service intervals as well. I owned a RTR 200 for less than 6 months and ended up going to the service center atleast 6 times in that period. I think what TVS needs right now is 3 things. First upgrade the 310 CC motor and get in a new 400 or 450 cc engine. Then Design 3 bikes. One Classic retro with a modern touch (Replacing the Ronin ofcourse) and One proper ADV and one Scrambler. So they would complete their stable. One Sports Naked (RTR 310), one sports (RR310), one classic retro, one ADV and one Scrambler. All in the price bracket of 2 Lac - 3 Lac INR. Thus giving the customers a wide range of Choices to pick from their stable.

All in the price bracket of 2 - 3 L is not possible, unless they have an engine in the 400 - 450cc engine they can re-purpose, creating a new engine involves, R&D and that invovles cost, to recover that they need to price it accordingly and they are answerable to their shareholders.

Also suggestions asked for next bikes of TVS. 1) Make a great scrambler out of Ronin or launch some other series all together. 2) Leave 313cc engines behind, make a bigger engine maybe 400cc or even a 450cc like sherpa 3) I really really wish TVS becomes the next manufacturer to move to twins. RE has done it well but RE being RE does RE things. Aprillia has done it and they have done it BRILLIANT. What a bike RS457 is. If TVS can replicate a bit of RS457 at a fraction of cost then we all will be in for a treat. Its a very difficult task to do it because RS457 is well priced and TVSs' existing offering RR310 is not a value for money, I don't know how they can pull off a twin while being value for money simultaneously. BUT I WISH THEY DO!.
@swastikmajhi8873Ай бұрын
i think indian manufacturers should start with twin cylinders, why only RE is the only one to do this. A twin from TVS may even rival the r3. Then yamaha would think of decreasing it's prices Edit:- Definitely a sports bike or bikes that have more zest, and if they manage to pull the twin thing, and at a price point of 3L, that would be the next best thing after triumph did the 400. Twin at this price, although it seems like a pipe dream though.

I bought a used dominar 400 a few months back and decided to add winglets to it. After designing multiple versions of winglets and doing flow simulation, I was getting 3.5kg of downforce at 120kmph. I wasn't satisfied by this figure but I can't increase the downforce without increasing the drag or making it ridiculously big. So I finalized this design with 3.5kg downforce, printed them and fitted it on the dominar. Now the dominar looks big and these winglets attract more eyes then before. And then I heard about the downforce that this new RR310 is able to get. Now I don't have any doubt on my engineering 😂. That's the max amount of downforce with this size of winglets at these 120-150kmph speed. Downforce increases squarely with the speed. So these winglets have more functionality in the high-speed bikes, but they definitely improve the looks of smaller bikes as well.

how did you measure your downforce?

Great summary! "TVS is the King of Benchmarking"- Such a polite way of saying they copy!! The original Pulsar came out in 2001, and TVS launched their Apache in 2006. The NS200 was launched in 2011, and the Apache 200 4v came out in 2016. So there seems to be a pattern of 5 years behind Bajaj's successful products. I wish the N250 were more successful, so that we can see a TVS 250cc rival that can slot between Apache 200 and 310. Maybe in 2026 perhaps? However, if the N250 was successful, then there might not have been a need for a TVS rival.

Hey there fam! I'm back! As a sucker for the TVS Apache RR310 for being what it is, I fall in love with it everytime I look at it and I get my heart broken everytime my rational mind listens to (and agrees with) Shumi's opinion about this bike. I believe this bike is a great machine now, only being hampered by its price. The best thing for this would be to bring it next to the speed 400 in terms of price, so people at least take it into consideration before jumping straight to the duke 250 or the speed. Oh and please let's just forget that the BMW exists for this because well, it feels more like extortion than a purchase paying what they ask for this machine. Kartikeya, 10/10 bang on summary! Well done! Coming to what TVS would be buying time for (if they are) with this bike, I believe it would be a Ronin successor, with a bigger ~400cc engine to compete with Scrambler 400x (and maybe the himalayan). Pricing it around 2.6-2.8 lakhs would make the most sense and taking ronin as the predecessor would make sense due to its comfort quotient. I hope they don't do the thing they did with the Ronin's suspension was so soft that highways would become a difficult thing. A bigger sportsbike or a naked sports right now wouldn't make much sense considering the failure with both the RR and the RTR projects. I'd love to know your thoughts on my thoughts 😛 Looking forward to hearing back from you and listening to other people's opinions here! Love, CB.

I think a 400cc, 40hp, ADV motorcycle, with sensible riding modes (not a bunch of combinations of engine maps, traction control, abs), priced at 2.75L (top spec) is what I want to see from TVS in the coming 2 years, and I would honestly consider and get a test ride and if the chassis works with that engine that they come up with, it will be an absolute no brainer for me to get it! Maybe with what I've understood from TVS discussions on motorinc and the dakar strides from them a 400cc ish adv makes the most sense where they could directly hit it out of the park. Also suprised shumi didnt take a dig on the clear clutch cover thought he would definitely cover it🤣🤣.

I think Ronin kind of retro thing is good, but they need to fix some things first - that 225cc needs to go up, something like 250-300, that will help a lot for future improvements and all. Second they really need to fix colors and designing, subtle colors are more fun than funky one, coz that's a retro kind of machine and mostly that will be ridden by mature, calm people, and funky colors for them isn't a good idea, also bringing out good 1st party accessories will be great but that's for future not immediate. And if there is a performance oriented platform is going to be I think it needs to be a 500cc. 400 is ongoing, and you can't do that thing right now, if you then after 3-4 years later when all others releasing a 500 you'll be a 399.5 that's will be the same story just like rr310s. So 500 will be a good start, again lots of room for improvement, if there's a parallel twin thing happening that will be awesome. Rest tvs engineers are far more intelligent than me they will handle it.

What alloy did they use for the piston? Can’t be 2618. They most probably used 4032, which is why they were not able to shave more than 10-12% weight off the piston. Makes sense though, 2618’s thermal expansion is far too high to be feasible for street use Also, the top end of the steel conrods also reciprocate with the pistons and does weigh a substantial about… and so does the piston pin Therefore, 10-12% weight removed from piston alone means merely 5-6% weight removed from the prime reciprocating assembly

Very enriching conversation as always. ❤ I'm a happy owner of Honda Unicorn Dazzler 150. Bought it in 2010 when it was launched as an youthful looking alternative to the regular Unicorn and done about 1.47 lakh kms now. It does 70-80kmph average without breaking a sweat all day long returning 50kmpl. Have done long rides of 700+ kms on a single day. Now that it turns 15 next year I'm looking to replace it with a good comfortable commuter and I find the only option is to go with the Unicorn160. Even with so many brands around someone with my kind of requirement left with only one option. The total number of Unicorns sold till date speaks for it as it sits at the top in 150-160cc category with none of the modern day features, followed by TVS Apache 160 which is more modern but uncomfortable for long journeys. There was a complete vacuum created when the Unicorn wasn't available in the market for a while and later brought back because of the demand it had. I wish the other brands also brought one bike in their portfolio in the 150-160cc displacement that becomes the practical, no nonsense family man bike with a non- committed relaxed seating.

I think the next TVS product must be a Ronin SCR. I’m an ex RTR200 owner here and having clocked 55000kms on the bike, I can definitely say the engine is torquey enough to do scrambling duties. Bring the TVS Ronin SCR with 225 cc engine, 20bhp, 20nm of torque at a kerb weight of 140kgs, with a fuel tank capacity of 11 to 12L, then this bike would immediately take on the Xpulse and the upcoming Kawasaki KLX 230. Launching two models, one for scrambler and one as a dual sport would be perfect. The torquey engine with that fruity exhaust note would be a hoot to ride. TVS has good experience in rally racing in India (I’m not talking about Sherco, mind you) and I think the market is ripe. TVS has the engine, expertise. Just give us that bike already 😍

Me being a TVS customer from a long time is hard to see they not having great bikes in the market which is flooded with 400cc 40BHP bikes. I had a 2002 Fiero and now have a 2010 RTR180 and I have nothing else to upgrade in the TVS stable which is interesting. I feel like downgrading and getting the 160 4V which is a massive VFM with almost same power figures as my RTR180. TVS needs a wake up call and get a 250, 400 with both street and off -road category in a big way. Maybe sneak in a 650 parallel twin 😁

I own a rr310 bs6 and I totally agree with what the host is trying to convey. Beautiful chassis with a mediokar engine. Few points that i would like to add Tvs now provides AMC which covers all the electronics under warranty and gives 15% of on all the body parts and maintenance items(engine oil, brake pads etc etc) With amc the general service labour is free of cost. Majority of service centers are don't even know how to service this bike except for 3 service centers in Bangalore which is hand picked by tvs and suggested to the customers. Parts availability is still a night mare if something goes wrong internally or you have an external damage forget your bike for atleast 3 weeks Shim noice is still audible in this engine even after these many years of R&D. CONCLUSION: A really good bike of you know the in and out of the bike and how to get things done. I have never spent about 2K in the last 4 services that i have done.

I don't want to see any ronin thing again tvs shouldn't forget its own history. Tvs was probably first indian brand to associate with ,racing tracks and DAKAR rally. Reputation of this brands comes from apache 160 to 200, it should be stick to it . And if they really want to benchmark anyone It should be KTM not royal enfield. Tvs can earn people's hearts by making good looking KTM alternatives with great pricing. What they did with pulsar. Tvs should focus on only one thing ,make racing machines and streat naked from 200cc range to 600cc; If they really want to succeed as an Indian racing brand Yes bulding a adv lineup alongside is a good idea there shold be 2 advs one wth 200 or 250 cc and another with 400cc later they'll come with 500 or 600cc adv. Good luck🎉 !hope they'll do something better. And tvs service.............. I'm tvs owner by the way.
@shrirangpatil007Ай бұрын
Apart from Royal Enfields, we don't have any twin cylinders in the street naked segment. The problem with the RE is they never want to make an outright moden bike in every sense. The other manufacturers with twins in their catalogue are not having street nakeds. So I would love if TVS could make one twin engine that they can use in three different categories of bike namely street naked, sports and an adventure. They can also have a cruiser with it but Indian market is not lucrative for cruiser category. Also we don't have any A2 kind of restrictions in India, so they can make it as powerful as they could. It may take 2 to 3 years to make it but it would still worth it given that all of their premium products have failed to make their mark in their categories. Another thing is there will be less competition to the TVS if they could bring these products in the near future. That can help them to establish their products before competition catches with them.
@motorincАй бұрын
Certainly a pathbreaking idea @shrirangpatil007 but twin cylinders require more work and as such, if at all they make one, it cannot cost less than ~₹4 lakh without TVS taking serious financial hit. So, we aren't sure how likely this is to happen. Would be cool though!

Once again, another great view on the bike. Nobody had been talking about the forged pistons on the social media. Probably TVS can update the Apache line-up now. Adding a 250cc rtr can fill the gap between 200 4v and rtr 310s. A RR400 or may be twin cylinder tech would be a really awesome thing to see from TVS. That at least will make the japanese turn heads. If I look at the Ronin family, I believe they can use it to go against xpulse 200 with a proper adv setup. If not the 400, at least they can use the 310 with a different tuning to create a ronin scrambler or cafe racer which can give the triumphs some competition. At least that will create a new image and platform for them. I still like their choice of mature colour schemes, nothing crazy on the bike is something we don't see much on Indian roads. If they really are eyeing for premium segment, shumi said rightly, they need to leave this 310 as is, and focus on bigger things, a 400rr with twin cylinder tech would be really nice to see. Make an RR and a RTR, create a limited edition (upto 500 units) of 600cc café/sports/naked with a fully new design and engine to fathom the market, people will look at TVS and see a complete different brand then. If they succeed, they can look into the 600cc segment. The cost and the service part needs to be worked on definitely. Indian consumers only take value for money products. P.s. waiting for your views on the pulsar n125 (yet another pulsar) 😅

Idk why TVS took all that time and effort to make those internal changes but invested zero of that time and effort into changing that exhaust pipe design while they were at it. I know it sounds really shallow because the bike is fantastic and at the end of the day the dynamics and the performance is what really matters but sometimes consumers really are that shallow, there are a lot of people that will get a bike simply because they like how it looks. The bike looks so nice, I seriously dont think anyone is going to object to that but that exhaust design is holding it back so much its crazy. I honestly believe that if they changed just that alone to something more sleeker and pleasing to the eyes, the sales would have gone up by 10-15% lol. Lets be serious here nobody is getting the rr/rtr310 for its performance or the package or whatever, Im sure that for 70-80% of the people who got these bikes they did so just because of they liked how these bikes look (truer for the rtr). If design is whats really selling these bikes then why not refine that one element thats really holding it back.

Nice review MotorInc. Glad that you have travelled 1500 kms to Coimbatore to experience riding the new RR310 in CoasTT race track. In my view , TVS should come up with a less RR version like 250 segment similar to KTM with competitive pricing will be a good idea. They can also try introducing Retro like Royal Enfield or Honda Hness , may be a new avatar of Ronin in its existing chasis but a 350 or 400 cc will do magic. Thanks Shumi and Karthik for the detailed unique review. Greetings from Coimbatore !!!!

Excellent summary! 10/10 I suppose from TVS, there are about 3 bikes I would love to see with a all new sub 500 cc engine which could be balanced like the sherpa. 1. A thoroughly engineered and finished street naked. With a light chassis and great suspension like they usually do and with the engine tuned to the power side. 2. A adventure tourer with that same engine but with hefty engine characteristics. A suspension setup close to or beating the latest and greatest ktm's. With engine tuned to torque side of things. 3. A rework on the said engine but in maxi-scooter segment. CVT. Handling city commutes and highways. A substantial torque machine. 😌 Priced in the 3-3.5 lakhs ex-showroom. All would matter only if the service experience is better.

After the acquisition both companies have stayed somewhat silent(norton only has the commando 961 and the V4 on sale, TVS just refreshes the apache 310). Honestly I think TVS needs to try this new refined 310 engine on a street bike(like the apache) with a less busy design, better cost etc. Maybe a scrambler. I dont think retros are ever going to be TVS dna, so that doesnt make sense. I'd also like to see some 600cc competition to the royal enfields from norton

TVS should give a modern bike for 25y-40y demographic segment who may be single married or having kids. A modern product with the versatility of a pulsar 220, chassis of Apache and finesse of a duke or triumph! For obvious reasons it shud be an all rounder and definitely not have a retro outlook (we have enough of it now last 3y and it’s tiring, started with Honda cb350, Bajaj triumph, Hunters etc). We need a modern and futuristic styled bike, putting out a 35bhp and 40nmTorque. Tall initial gearing for city friendliness and 5th and 6th gears for a proper highway cruise at 110-120kmph. Need slipper clutch and adjustable break levers, a proper earth’s ground and road focused LED (right outta the rtr310) , longer subframe and wheel base to comfortably accommodate 2people without getting humped on d riders back and a 15L fuel tank. Rest of d features can be as per market demands. Can be as stingy as a hunter 350 or can go as far as Pulsar z400N.

I was initially considering the RR 310, but with the launch of the new Duke 250 in Ebony Black, I started leaning toward that. After watching your video, my decision feels much clearer. For me, the only big pull for the RR 310 is the looks, but at 3.51L on-road in Hyderabad for the Bomber Grey, it's pretty steep. At that price, I could even consider a Triumph. The Duke 250, on the other hand, is 2.85L on-road, which feels more reasonable. Most of the RR 310's features, like cruise control, are nice to have but not essential for me. Thanks for helping me weigh my options!

I just saw a teaser for the BMW F 450 GS Concept. That engine size feels tailor-made for where the competition is right now in India. It's a twin cylinder setup and peaks at 48 bhp (higher than even Aprilia 457's 46.9). I have a feeling this engine will be the basis for the next series of BMW-TVS bikes. Just imagine a 450R, 450RR & 450GS! If they price these bikes as aggressively as Triumph did with the Speed 400, they can blow all the 390 Dukes and Aprilias and Triumphs out of the water.

It would be nice to see 2 products from TVS: 1. A ramped up Ronin in terms of power. Its been a good bike for low speed riding. A higher displacement engine giving it a solid torque like a T4 can give it the spark it’s missing. 2. An Adv style 310 cc or more. Might end up being a great product. Something structured like a 200 4V but taller, but it looks unlikely to happen anytime soon. Price points would be lovely to see around the 2.0 to 2.4 mark

This bike is already very fast and agile for Indian road standards and we really don't need anything more. Almost any major previous bug seems to be fixed after so many iterations. Not everyone is competing or racing on road or comparing 0-100km/h acceleration in day-to-day life, it's just yourself who needs to be satisfied yet safe when handling this much power. Most of the people comparing this to RC390 or Aprilia RS 457 are the one's who are influenced by the illegal and totally unsafe drag/top-speed races they watch on KZbin from some shady channels who do that stuff by risking their and others life on road just for some views or fame. Additional safety tech like cornering traction control and ABS via IMU should be opted by most as it will worth much more if you care about your safety, costs will go down eventually if more and more people start opting that. It is still more useful than riding boots, pants or jackets as most people only wear helmet and gloves for day-to-day small commutes where the chances of small city accident are most.

I have a few questions: 1. As the new rr310 has lighter forged piston so the previous iterations have casted piston or heavier forged piston? 2. Regarding the characteristics of this new engine, as I own the 2022 version of rr310 what I feel is the engine has dip in power between 5500 to 6500rpm and then sudden surge in power as being mentioned the same for the new 310 as well. This range of 5500rpm to 6500 rpm is the range where the engine feels the most unrefined and buzzy as well and it becomes super smooth as I approach the 7000rpm and above. In higher gears it feels refined enough across the rpm but for say in 3rd gear (60 kmph at 6000rpm)the engine feels the most buzzy. Is it the same case for the new rr310 as well? On what I would like as the new bike from tvs/bmw collaboration, in 2020 there are some news that they are developing a new twin cylinder engine. I would like to see a 400 cc parallel twin engine which is super refined and fitted into the current 310 chasis and available at the same price as the current rr310. It has been long due for us Indians to transition from single cylinder to multiple cylinder motorcycle as it has happened long ago in european and north american countries.
