I think this is the new normal. Every couple years introduce another Tier of X. I like it. It allows us more ability to flesh out themes and build concepts. I do think we need more scaled difficulty with gameplay. Perhaps introduce missions/patrols/TFOs that are endless beyond Arena and Maru. Give us something in exchange that we can use as a currency to get something else useful. Honestly, the play->reward system is broken in this game. Other than FOMO, there's nothing to keep us playing beyond trek love, pew pew PvP, or theory crafting. We need a solid plan for endgame content.

The thing with power creep isn't how hard the hardest content is. It's the fact that the battlezones used to be fun and now are not. The end stage Voth flood in the Dyson space area used to be kind of tense and exciting. Now ships explode before they're even fully warped in. Doing endeavors in common areas is a game of out-DPSing everyone else trying to complete those same endeavors. Have you tried to do the V-rex uni lately? It's nearly impossible unless you camp the spawn. Why? Power creep. Power creep also breaks the story missions. It's an incredibly poisonous game mechanic that will progressively erode the STO experience for everyone.

The only place where power creep is meaningless is the Procyon V TFO. That third time is still murder, with every enemy NPC Temporal dreadnought from the game fighting. The only ships that have an easy time are the 31st Century Temporal ships. They are almost always fighting those ships, because they will dominate any other player vessel on the map, because of how their abilities cycle with each other.

Power creep means whales are going to have far better gear than casual players, its why PVP is so frustrating in STO. Other games normalize stats to make PVP more even. I am sure that is not easy to do for a game designer.

Also worth pointing out; Fleet versions do not have Trait unlocks for completing the Mastery. For some of the best builds out there, Traits are a big reason to acquire any given ship. If you go with the Fleet Modules; you get the ship- but not that coveted trait.

I highly doubt it's going to be the same token & you just used two of them. It's going to be a brand new one. And probably cost 25-50% more on the C-store. (If they plan to have a 3x and 4x token eventually, then maybe the price increase won't be as dramatic.)

Heck yeah Let’s Go! 😁 There are so many in the game fitting them together like a puzzle is really fun and I always feel like I have to leave some of them off to make it a full puzzle, . Power creep is so out of control it is not even worth discussing anymore. The horses aren't just out of the barn, they built their own rocket ships and are colonizing Mars! 😆 And it's not like PVP is a thing anymore in STO where imbalance is an issue developers try to control. 🤣 Sure they may play whack-a-mole if one power here or there is too powerful, but they've given up on a totally balanced system.

LOL! PVP was a dead horse back in 2012, but It was fun. That PVP horse has been atomized, and the horse's atoms has been sent to 'oblivion' currently. This new ship update will destroy the 'Oblivion'. PVP should be removed at this point.

Assuming they repeat the same pattern as last year, you could get that $48 ship for $0. Provided you have another 3+ months worth of patience. Last year they gave everyone a 100% off T6 ship coupon during the winter event. You can claim the fleet ship module from a rep, then do the red alert that's happening RIGHT NOW for an X token. If you completed the red alert a couple months ago you should still have a second one from that (unless you spent it) and if not, Cryptic will run another red alert this year (probably) or even just give away an X token during the winter event. By early December you could have everything you need for this for free. That said, I've always maintained that the game is worth spending what you would spend on any other AAA game, so about $60 or $70. The best new player ship in the game right now (personal opinion) is the Terran Hydra, which doesn't require a fleet ship module. You could buy the elite services bundle, pick up the Hydra during one of the 25% off ship sales, and buy 10 keys, all for under $60. Sell the keys on the exchange and buy your X tokens there, much cheaper than the C-store price for the X tokens. For $60 you've got a ship you can reliably clear every piece of content in the game with. But yes, you can also get it for free. idk, seems like the game is worth spending a LITTLE money on to me. The people who play 100% F2P seem...I don't want to say "spiteful," but maybe "unreasonably proud" of the fact that they're not giving the developers a cent, and I wouldn't be ashamed of that, but I wouldn't be proud of it either, if it were me. The game is worth supporting financially, I think. Probably a good idea to do so LESS than I have though, lol. I could've built a second gaming PC for what I've spent on this game :(

Meh, kind of don't care about the never ending power creep. I just play new episodes when they release them, this just isn't the game it used to be. I remember when PVP used to be fun... and when you joined a round of Borg Space you HAD to destroy the nanite nodes in the right order. Now players ships are so powerful they can actually destroy the generator before the nanite nodes.

I would welcome difficulty harder than elite, and all existing and future tfo's getting advanced, elite and above difficulty. I run the advanced tfo Playlist with friends often for marks and dill and it's sooo repetitive. There's so many tfos that are normal only that could be made advanced and added to the Playlist.

I CAN NOT SOLO ELITE. And I’m an average loyal player since the game came out. I did some elite TFOs recently to gather mats for the “new consoles”. One of the players in the group bullied me, claiming that I did not do enough damage. All my gear is XV and tuned accordingly. I bet I am part of a majority of players in the same situation. Trying to embrace the Elite TFOs. But it’s NOT “easy”. I welcome this X2 upgrade. Even though I will admit another device slot is dumb.

I expect that it would work like the T5-U upgrade and the Experimental upgrade, so a new token for the T6-X2. But i wouldn't be upset if it was to use the Experimental upgrade since they are easy to get. The T6-X2 ships are basically T7-X ships, so maybe in the future we may see T7 ships, once the waters has been tested. They dont want a reaction like they did when they went from T5 to T6.

@@stue2298 That's exactly it. Spend $30+ on a T6 ship. Then spend more and more to keep upgrading it. As it is, a T-6 ship would cost between 50 to 60 (Projected) to upgrade to T-6-X2. Then add likely another 30 bucks to get to X3 if they ever do that.

I mean T6 and all the X & fleet upgrades make it more easy to steamroll content but it doesn't make T5Ux2 less useful since the content is the same so if you could do elite runs in a Galor you can still do it now difference being that a T6X2 will do it faster, the only major difference could be in pvp but that is dead, burried & forgotten.

@@DerDrecksack87 Yes T5 ships and their U and X versions can be used, but they are out of date. How many people use T5 ships when they have a choice of T6 ships, i am guessing not many. The only reasons you would fly a T5 ship over a T6 ship is you like the challenge or you like the look of the ship and dont care how it performs. The only reason to buy a T5 ship is for the console, you are not buying it for the trait cause it doesnt have one and you not buying it to fly. Look at how many T5 ships cryptic have removed from the game because they where obsolete.

True. Game content is getting awfully repetitive. But the T6-X2 upgrades are more for the high DPS chasers and the new harder elite content they're starting to implement. You either have some powercreep in such games or stagnation. And if you want to keep long time players invested and interested, you gotta give them new stuff to play with and improve their builds now and then. It's just they way it is.

I like the way this game is monetised. It is a much better model allowing players to play for free. If you compare that to other Star Trek games like Fleet Command, you pay $100 or $200 for the shards to get the ship, but to upgrade it, would take 2 or 4x $100 packs. Then the ship is redundant after 1-2 years.

If they hadd content for these new ships this is good thing. if they dont, or they fubar the content where it's just not challenging enough, then this is meangless power creep for a cash grab. The content they added for the T6/T6x stuff fell short of the mark. You can do nearly all of it with a regular T6, or even a T5, just alot slower. at this point T6 and Zen ships isnt necessary, it just means you can grind faster then a T5x...casue you can still do most of it with a T5x. My only concern is them in a general content, like pugs and stuf. Advanced TFO's can be over in seconds becuase or power creep as it is. What they need to do, what they reeeeeallly need to do, is figure out some end game content. as it is now, once you get the gear 8for* end game, you realzied that *was* the end game, there's nothing for you to do but parade around your shiny at ESD. What they should have done along time ago, befie PvP died, was create Romi as legit third faction of their own, then establish nuetral zones between the three factions. as with most games, this is where PvPer's can fight back and forth fro control over those neutral zone areas with certain loots and mats to profit from while you have control. That's end game content, but they let PvP die for lack of purpose, and now the end game is hanging around ESD talking politics while prancing around in your space barbie toon.

How does one run a solo elite TFO? I tried to run a private elite TFO and it says my party is too small, even when I was grouped with my brother. So, technically not solo, but just the two of us would not work. Did I miss something?

I dunno, for me who is not spending anything on this game, it feels like to screw with me. It took me a year to get 4 of my ships to T6x after getting event ships for years(which rendered 8 of my 12 ships fleet entirely useless) and now BAM I am in need of upgrading again. It is getting out of hand in a very unfriendly way towards me and I am thinking on just dropping out after 11 years of playing.

I have been wanting to add an extra console to some of my ships on the PS4 Version for sometime now and this will let me do that. Hopefully they do use the old tokens to do so for I have some saved. I don’t waste money in the game and once I get the T-6 ship I want for any of my created characters they keep that ship, I don’t buy ships because I like them or to get consoles. I play with what I have. This will just allow me to try out the extra consoles I want to.

Europe is the same way, 2000 = 20 euro, 3000 = 30 Euro's there is NO difference. I wouldn't mind if they give out the T7 ships for a cost, I mean the ships look awesome but I agree if you could just upgrade the existing one with money. And I been with STO from launch and they never over did it with cost or money grabbing. They dealt fair with the people except with the harry's store that still is the most money grabbing store in game. Well I look out to your next video !

Maybe a year ago I came up with a fantasy X2 upgrade. It would have been somewhat more powerful than what we're getting and was accordingly fairly costly. Hopefully with what the real X2s are giving, it only takes another of the existing Experimental Upgrade tokens. It was easy to understand back in the day you had tier 1-5 with tier 5 fleet ships. now we have T5, T5-E, T6, T6-X, T-6x2 plus the miracle worker console slots and the fleet configurations of T5 and T6 ships.

I'd need to see how it works before passing judgement. Non-competitive players don't really have a need to max upgrade everything. For me personally, I would only care to max upgrade my main ship (currently the Verne) as I use it 99% of the time on my main character. Speaking for console (that's where I play), unless they've went into the guts of the game & fixed certain things such as manual clicky powers not activating properly, powers set to auto not activating properly, the inability for the system to handle activating multiple powers at once, the overly silly skill wheel that continually rearranges the location of the skills (rendering muscle memory nonexistent), etc, I'm not sure adding more to a ship is all that appealing. Being able to do more with my ship sounds good, but when I think about it, due to the problems I listed above, I end up not even using most of the non auto-use powers I have equipped on my ships because the hassle isn't worth it most of the time. As it stands now, they would need to make some in-engine fixes before another upgrade is something I'd even care about. Again, have to see how it's gonna work before passing judgment.

I would also add a sort system specifically when your upgrading things, and an overhaul to the chat system on console. It’s taken a long time figuring out how to navigate the game and I would think that is why most quit before they realize the game is pretty cool. There are many levels and many games within the main game that all take time to figure out just like exploring the massive map.

Why are you implying (at 1:30 ish) that the X upgrade can only be applied to a Fleet version? I’ve watched it twice and that’s what’s inferred. You make no mention that you don’t need to have a Fleet version of the ship to use the X upgrade. Hell, you can use it on a T5-U if you wanted to!

Should be a new difficulty and call it the kobayashi maru difficulty or Legendary p.s. will the x2 upgrade carry the upgrade to the ship if you get in on another characters

Okay I play two different games by this company Neverwinter and Star Trek online and honestly you're asking for harder content but the thing is they need to update this game extremely bad first you might be a PC player but on console there's a lot of things that need to be fixed because they're just flat-out broken and cause leg issues but I'm starting to lose face in gearbox because of this crap they're just in it for the money and nothing's getting updated the game cannot handle to get really too much harder because it's just going to be more leg issues on console they need to fix it first

But this is the same issue that's going on with Neverwinter these games cannot handle that kind of content because they need to be updated internally movement the way the characters jump everything is so out of date I mean look at Ground combat in this game all you got to do is just keep pushing a button and it'll Auto Target that's ridiculous that's not even really playing that's the problem we're having on console the stuff so broke that people think that this is how it's supposed to be and it was just rigged up so it could be played on consoled

So, this new token must be to get the T6 ships to be able to compete with the T7's. I have a feeling the T7 is already here in its basic form as legendary ships. They have far more console slots than a T6. I also think that new T7's will be upgrades of existing ships, like the T5 Aventine vs the T6 ones. My thought, is that Bridge Officers get kit module abilities, like our captains do for away team play. That is begging to be added.

i hope it uses the normal upgrade tokens... but that aside.. i still have 1 t6 ship i can get from the store... what fed ship has the best trait for unlock ... for a beam ship?

It has been confirm it will take two more of the same tokens to go from x to x2.
