My tween also had an issue with clothes all over the floor... I realized her clothes were falling off bc she needed adult size hangers. It's definitely helped!

Oh Yes! I didn’t mention it in the video, but I bought both of girls new adult size hangers for Christimas and we got rid of the majority of the kid hangers. We kept a few for jeans only. They are the perfect size for hanging pants.

I’m not surprised…. “Go clean your room.” (Shoves everything under the bed) “Mom, I’m done cleaning my room” 😂 I’ve since wisened up and ask “what about under your bed.” Under Ella’s it was just a bunch of little stuff that got kicked under.

Just an idea - my mother made me clean out under my bed about quarterly. As I grew up I made sure nothing ended up under my bed because I hated cleaning under my bed. Even now in my early 60s I don’t let anyone put anything under the beds or under the couch or chairs.

Oh girl 🤜 it IS so fun to progressively see their style and preferences grow in the space. Just got to do another update on daughter's room. Requested a jungle theme 🐆🌴 Challenge accepted! Sooooo appreciate her knowing what she wants and communicating. Used a lot of what we had on hand and then the budget went to etsy prints, making for easy art decor swap outs, them lights you have, we have as well and really make TAPestry's pop! We have a large gap where the ends don't meet, and I wasn't buying more, so I stragtically positioned it over her bed where she doesn't see it when in bed... And I made a tree out of craft paper and tissue paper. Still mighty proud of that one! Thrifted a bed skirt, pillowcase and jungle animals and it transformed into her Jungle🥰 💪

Good morning! The room turned out great - the tap-estry (sorry, Im team Stephen 🙈) is super cool, with the couch, makes it look like an awesome reading nook! And what a lovely big room too! I enjoy Danni Rae as well, and I'll go check out Erica Lucas - oh and I forgot to mention in the last video, it was Christine from FFM who originally sent me over to your channel, and am I ever glad she did! I'll go spread some love! Have a really wonderful day! 🌞 (Oh, and if its any piece of mind, Im sure Grace will be just fine - I used to have emotional attachments to things too, rescued A LOT of rocks from their horrible outdoor living condtions, lol, and also saved every clothing price tag off my clothes because I couldn't bear to see them thrown in the garbage, that would be mean to them, seriously, and Im pretty sure it worried my mom too, but alas, I turned out alright. I keep my house pretty tidy, and happy to report I can happily now throw out tags! lol, ...now my son has me worried, cause he's starting to be me when I was little....lol, Im sure he'll be fine...right? lol)

I can't wait until he gets into more of the oceanography and marine wildlife classes because I enjoy learning about that too! He's interested in engineering boats/ships and submarines. If I may make a suggestion that really worked for us: my child was very attached to all their things. Had a hard time getting rid of anything. We talked about the need to make space, either for presents, or just space to play. We acknowledged the attachment, and promised that NOTHING would leave unless they said it was ok. Then they were ok putting some things in a box to be put in storage «for a while», promising that it could be temporary if need be. We then tried it again later. A few more things go in storage. We visit the boxes to show they are not lost. After some time, the attachment lessened, and we talked about who might like to use the thing. Either a cousin, a small child in need, or a friend. After a while, they were able to offer some things to a charity or a friend, offer clthing to a cousin. Seing their thing in use, or being praised for generosity enforced the good experience. And gradually the room got decluttered and organized.

It’s “tap-es-tree”. Another idea for the tapestry is to make it into a canvas by making a frame from furring strips (roughly $8 total) and stretching it over them. I made several large “canvases’ using this method and shower curtains. The room looks great!

With the oldest I totally agree. If it is notva problem, let her have them. If you cange your mind it often can help to rotate her stuff. Let her put a lot of stuffed animals etc. in storage. When she specific ask for one, she can switch it with another. If some is not asked for in for example a year, maybe it can be donated? And if she can know who is getting them, it is often more easy. Like:children in hospital, refugees, etc.

I used to have to wait until my kids were at camp to deep clean their rooms. My husband and I shampooed the carpets, cleaned the windows painted, wallpapered, the whole nine yards.....it felt so good to clean it up and have it stay that way. We would forget what those rooms originally looked like without all the clutter and trash.....do churches still have camps? The one we attend now does not. Our son went to fish camp and our daughter went to bike camp ...that was thirty or so years ago ...

That is a wonderful makeover - the couch nook is so welcoming. I usually pronounce tapestry by hitting that 'a' as I would say 'at'. I remember being like your oldest - but it wasn't only sentimentality that made me keep up with my bears and dolls - it was a sense of guilt. They were real little people in my mind, and so I couldn't do anything that might hurt their feelings. Looking back, it's sort of a bit unpleasant, honestly, a sense of responsibility for my little group of 'face' toys which carried quite the weight. Little kids minds are odd things 😊

That sounds just like her. She looks at them as stuffed animals with human emotions and the thought of separating “families” and “friends” from each other is legitimately heart breaking for he. I try to be understanding, but it’s becoming a bit much.

@@LeafLikeOnATree being a mom isn’t easy - trying to maintain a balance of respect for this burgeoning human’s individuality and doing what you feel is beneficial for her mental health is a tightrope walk. And I do think being buried in stuff has a detrimental impact on children’s mental health- I think most of us feel that emotional weight of too much stuff to be able to maintain quality of life. I don’t envy mums and have deep respect for the lifelong job mums sign up for. If it helps at all, my entire doll and teddy collection could be lined up with heads on the pillow and me also in a tiny sliver - a tight fit but it could be done. Since then the tusmani of cheap items have swamped our children and I’m sure if your kids tried to tuck in their collection they’d end up sleeping on the floor or maybe even in the hallway 😊 Thank you for sharing your journey and providing much needed motivation and pragmatism.

I was the same way with stuffed animals (still to this day... even to the point of saving my siblings stuffed animals LOL), I did have some bad experiences letting go of some stuffed animals that I was not ready to when I was younger (I bought as close replacements as I could find on ebay LOL)... so I appreciate your gentle approach (my parents weren't forceful but at the time I felt pressured to let go of a certain amount each time, some I never thought about again, some I couldn't get over. So as the parent I recommend if your kids make any decisions about very sentimental items or stuffed animals, maybe pull it on the side after the fact and tuck it in a sentimental bin, just in case they realize they made a mistake in decluttering it) I think what helped is just always being asked if there were any I was ready to let go of consistently and also just time. As I have grown up it's been getting easier and easier to let go of stuffed animals, certain things just do not hold the same emotional value as they did before and some things still very much do. Something that helped me let go of things, not just stuffed animals was to take pictures of the item/items. I just recommend you have a folder for these photos to get dumped in, and even if I never look at it again, it was the security of knowing I have the picture that will bring up the memory/feeling from looking at the item/s. Our brains don't finish developing until the mid 20s, I personally found it easier to detach emotion from stuffed animals at that point in my life (as well as deciding if it was worth spending the time and money to organize them, move them, store them, clean them etc.) As always, I love your videos!

The love has been shared. Great makeover today. Also, hate to say it but your husband's pronunciation of tapestry is correct 🤣

What a great declutter and makeover for your daughter! I studied Environmental Studies and took a study abroad in college to the Bahamas for marine studies, oceanography and island biology. It was the best memories I have of college and I made my long lasting friends there. Keep encouraging her dreams to to wherever it leads and it might be something everlasting. I'm repaying the love and subscribing from Danni's channel.
