Some people are seemingly forgetting (or ignorant to the fact) that this rivalry goes beyond football. These two sets of people (Geordie's and Mackem's) literally fought against each other in a fucking Civil War, the hatred is deep-seated into their culture/upbringing.

Absolutely fantastic editing and shots - You did what so few aspiring editors fail to do - you mastered the use of blending / carrying over audio between scenes to make it seamless. Wonderful, wonderful work. When done right, the average person doesn't notice, and boy you knocked it out of the park.

Amazing piece of cinematography. As one person in the comment section said, the best actors are the ones that don't know they're acting. So much raw pure emotion in this short film I was one of the people who thought football was a pussy sport until I moved to England and started attending games. What TV doesn't accurately portray is the power, speed, endurance, and precision that football players posses. As for the fans, football games are therapeutic source of release for many people. Whether people care to admit it or not, they in one way or another are part of the rat race. 9-5 jobs, personal commitments, responsibilities to family and friends, accountabilities to everyone around them... It's all very draining, however its a part of life. When you go to a football game, nothing other than the ball shaking the back of your opponents net matters anymore, and you are not alone. You are effectively taking part in a group therapeutic session were you forget about everything and release any bent up stress you have in a non-destructive way. You scream, you shout, you laugh, and you live. You let go of everything else and live in the moment. We saw in the video that this might sometime get out of hand, however today, rarely does anything really bad happen.

+BLACest1990 In britain social standards are relatively high, in terms of behaving correctly, not complaining and so on. Juws It goes deeper than that though. This rivalry goes deeper than football and can be traced back to the civil war. They are working class men from one of the poorest regions in England. It doesn't matter how much evolution we have, humans are tribal by nature and nothing will change that. It's why we all are slightly racist.
@Lerxst
@Lerxst 8 жыл бұрын
Virgil Grissom That moment when it's not 15,000 BCE and we have that thing called quality of life and we live in cities, not camps. Other people kill our food for us, prepare it for us, they grow our vegetables and fruits all on highly stratified, highly technological and automated farms. The last thing we are is 'tribal' considering a tribe is that of a non-sedentary group of hunter-gatherers with no formal leader. I'd say we're actually the exact opposite of tribal.
@virgilgrissom7753
@virgilgrissom7753 8 жыл бұрын
Juws We have only had those advances for a few hundred years, our natural instincts will take thousands to leave us. Look at the middle east and Africa they are still very tribal even in developed cities. In fact 1/3 of the world's population are part of tribes. You have huge tribes like the berbers (30 million strong) the amharas (25 million) the oromo (30 millon) the hutu (15 million) the zulu (10 million) the yoruba (40 million) the hausa (35 million) the igbo (32 million). You are using the historical definition of a tribe to fit your argument.

This is basically the working class showing they can affect the world around, and a symptom of the hopelessness the system has dealt them. There are also other mechanisms at play here and I think the whole phenomenon has a lot to say about who we are deep down. This is post football skinhead era and a shadow what of I personally witnessed in the 1970's. The crowds were far larger and had a primeval warrior like feel about them. Their rhythmic chanting whilst coming down the street as a phalanges was no different from any tribal group prior to battle. The level of violence was incomprehensible, they were animals. The police have also seemed to forgotten how to control these crowds. By the mid 70's they had it down to an art form, the rivals crowds would not have got even remotely close to each other.

Jeez I see this and I'm glad I'm in NZ where Rugby is the predominant spectator sport. I'm not sure whether it's a cultural difference or a sporting one but even at major rivalry games the most you get on a wide scale is friendly banter between "opposing" fans. At the end of the day it's just a game and everyone's there to watch that game be played with a high level of skill.

Geez all you people throwing you hands up and exclaiming disgust seem to forget that this sort of rivalry happens in football across Europe and South America. Go to any local derby and you will see exactly the same sort of thuggish behaviour. This is not an English only problem, nor is suspect does it only happen in football, but no doubt football has the worst. Tribalism and crowd mentality are very powerful, especially when kids are brought up to HATE the local rivals. Not an excuse, just part of an explanation.
