Tyler wrote this song when he heard fans’ stories of cutting and suicide attempts after a show. He couldn’t sleep thinking about them. He promised that he would fight and stay alive if the clique promised they’d do the same.

It's also been said that they need the masks when they're struggling with _____. Josh takes his mask off as soon as he's playing the drums and Tyler takes his off when he starts singing. Those are the things that bring them comfort and make them "ready" for what they need to deal with.

Hi, this is my opinion, and it might be wrong, but when Tyler talks about "these mutant kids", I think he refers to how society sees people with mental disorders and illnesses, like if they were some type of creepy bugs, instead of people in need of help.

Their love of their fan base is incredible. I was watching some old live versions of the song, he would have the audience hold their arms up, make a gun with their hands and point them at him, then raise their arms back up and make a fist. Yep, everything about them, just genius.

Also here's an interview where they explain the masks. It wasn't really about being too insecure to be seen, but more about getting attention at first. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mnWminmsp9xqeq8

Nicely done, as always! My absolute favorite line of this song says it all: "I simply tell them they should shoot at this- Simply suggest my chest, and this confused music." Tyler would rather his fans take their pain out on him (shoot him straight in the chest with it! ) and with his music than hurt themselves. Fucking incredible.

This was the first Twenty One Pilots song I heard, I heard it a day after my mind went to a really bad place. I ended up crying for that whole day thinking about this song. I went and explored other songs but I always came back to this one. Even now when I hear it, I get this pain in my chest remembering that day, but now when I hear it it gives me hope in a way, and if I'm by myself I might cry listening to this song but this time I'm grateful? I don't know how to explain it. I heard this about 5 or 6 years ago.

Hey man, another great one! I just want to add, as you noticed at the starting they took off their mask. I interpreted that the mask helps them to hide their identity as they are not comfortable as Tyler said: "you can take it off when you're ready ". Notice here, Josh takes his mask off as soon as he is behind his drums and Tyler takes some time (insecurities kicks in) and when just about to sing he takes his off...which can be inferred as they are after comfortable with what they are best at and ready to face the world as soon as they do it.

@@thefablesphere they truly are... I am not sure this one tho... at the end when they switched up again.. there was a pause where Tyler was scratching his head with the mic.... I thought that Tyler was out of words because there was no beats and josh was waiting for Tyler to speak. In a sense, they complete each other and rely on each other to bring them out of their insecurities. It's just my wild theory, lol!

I saw this somewhere else and thought I'd leave it here. With that line "It's obviously best for them to turn their guns to a fist"...guns are for killing, but fists are for fighting. He's saying don't take the easy way out by killing yourself; turn that gun into a fist and fight your way through the bad stuff because I'm here for you. I love these guys. They are so talented and genuine. There's reason they have been my number one Spotify artist for two years running...and looks like they will be my number one again this year.
@asdband8884 жыл бұрын
I just have to say, I love your reactions to Twenty One Pilots! You GET it. I love how I can see that you feel in these songs what I, and many like me, feel. We feel like finally someone gets it. Finally someone has put into words what is undefinable, inexplicable. My son was going through self injury, depression, anxiety and suicidal ideation in high school. He was in and out of the hospital 4 times in a year and did outpatient day programs in there, too. We spent a lot of time in the car together going to and from these hospital stays. This is one of the bands he liked a lot. I bopped along for a while until I started actually hearing and feeling the songs. I was floored. I took him to their concert in 2018 and it was amazing. The energy you talk about is real. Everyone there probably feels like they are the only one who has those feelings when they are at home, but they come together, with thousands of other who all have felt it, in some way, and they are no longer alone. I love how visceral your reactions are. I just found your page last night before last and I spent most of the night watching the ones for TOP. You see depth in the songs and videos that I didn't catch, the symbolism in the videos, all of that. You NEED to go see them when the world allows it. Keep it up. I'll even let you put your headphones down. Doesn't bother me.

There are so many details and little facts about this video, but one in the beginning on when they take off the masks, the timing is important. Josh has said several times that he hides behind his drums and that they help him, so he takes off his mask as soon as he gets behind them because he doesn't need it. Tyler takes his mask off as soon as he starts singing. You said in several videos that "He bleeds the words" and he really does. He doesn't need a mask when he's singing because he can be his truest self in his music. (Also, there's a concert wherein the first lyrics when he says "I know, I know-o-o, what means, I know-o-o-o" he would run the back of the mic across his wrist during every pause. I've seen many videos of just that clip, but every time I hear this song my brain plays that clip with the lyrics)

since you like what Tyler writes you should check out the bands he was inspired by like the band La Dispute, their song King Park is by almost all that know it regarded as one of the best song lyrically so I think a reaction would be great
