LYRICS
I wish I found some better sounds no one's ever heard
I wish I had a better voice that sang some better words
I wish I found some chords in an order that is new
I wish I didn't have to rhyme every time I sang
I was told when I get older, all my fears would shrink
But now I'm insecure, and I care what people think
[Pre-Chorus]
My name's BLURRYFΛCE and I care what you think
My name's BLURRYFΛCE and I care what you think
[Chorus]
Wish we could turn back time
To the good old days
When our momma sang us to sleep but
Now we're stressed out
Wish we could turn back time
To the good old days
When our momma sang us to sleep but
Now we're stressed out
We're stressed out
[Verse 2]
Sometimes a certain smell will take me back to when I was young
How come I'm never able to identify where it's coming from?
I'd make a candle out of it, if I ever found it
Try to sell it, never sell out of it, I'd probably only sell one
It'd be to my brother, cause we have the same nose
Same clothes, home grown, the stone's throw from a creek we used to roam
But it would remind us of when nothing really mattered
Out of student loans and tree house homes, we all would take the latter
[Pre-Chorus]
My name's BLURRYFΛCE and I care what you think
My name's BLURRYFΛCE and I care what you think
[Chorus]
Wish we could turn back time
To the good old days
When our momma sang us to sleep but
Now we're stressed out
Wish we could turn back time
To the good old days
When our momma sang us to sleep but
Now we're stressed out
[Bridge]
Used to play pretend, give each other different names
We would build a rocket ship and then we'd fly it far away
Used to dream of outer space, but now they're laughing at our face
Singing "wake up, you need to make money", yeah
Used to play pretend, give each other different names
We would build a rocket ship and then we'd fly it far away
Used to dream of outer space, but now they're laughing at our face
Singing "wake up, you need to make money", yeah
[Chorus]
Wish we could turn back time
To the good old days
When our momma sang us to sleep but
Now we're stressed out
Wish we could turn back time
To the good old days
When our momma sang us to sleep but
Now we're stressed out
[Outro: BLURRYFΛCE]
We used to play pretend, used to play pretend, bunny
We used to play pretend, wake up you need the money
Used to play pretend, used to play pretend, bunny
We used to play pretend, wake up you need the money
Used to play pretend, give each other different names
We would build a rocket ship and then we'd fly it far away
Used to dream of outer space, but now they're laughing at our face
Saying "wake up, you need to make money", yeah.

This song reminds me of a feeling that I took for granted as a young kid that I now miss greatly: The young kid feeling of not caring about appearance, how perfect you and your clothes were, about whether or not people found you attractive.

I never understood this song when I was younger. Back then, I just liked the song a lot because of the music. I never listened to the lyrics or tried to understand the meaning. But now that I’m older and began understanding this song more, I actually feel this song having a huge connection to me mentally.

Yeah that was barely 6 years ago. I remember shit from 30+ years ago! 6 years ain't shit to me anymore, that was just last week. My grandmother is in her 90's, she counts time by the decade while the rest us count it by the month. When you live long enough you will understand the concept of Deep Time, a time where nostalgia dies and you live in a sort of "Forever Now."

Music is great, but lyrics suck BIG TIME, it talks about embracing fear and regret of becoming and adult and how you wished someone else broke his/her back for you while you just rested and how you miss those days so much.

That verse about the candle is insanely accurate... Me and my brother always stopped in the middle of the streets when we got this scent of night flowers that for some reason reminded us of childhood and our home, but we never actually found which flowers the smell came from. Now my brother left to study in Europe, and I'm happy for him, but can't help missing the old times like 15 years ago when it was all fun and games until we had to grow up really quickly.

Oh man I don't mean to be rude but it's not gonna be until way later, like in your 40s, that you know about the real world....sorry like I said really not meaning to be rude, but it's just that when you're that young nothing has even happened to you yet....wait until you deal with things like cancer, cancer again, an alcoholic spouse, divoce, rape, etc.....at nineteen you're just so before all of that, before experiences crush you.

This legit hits hard. Being older and listening to the song it just makes u remember how u can live and have fun. But now parents and adults pressure their children and make them feel this way. And now when they ask why we’re so different than when we were younger it’s because we were expected to grow up and not live life. It’s like we’re robots now. It’s sad and it hurts

My mom loved this song so much and didn't know why. Anytime the song played on the car radio she would sing and jam out to it, while I cringed like all kids do. I understood the meaning of the song, but I still was my childhood, so I couldn't relate to it. Fast forward to 2023, now I've never related to this song more than ever and think of my mom anytime this song plays. I finally get it Mother, I really do. I've never missed having a mother, playing pretend, having no responsibilities, and not feeling insecure than I do right now.

I remember the first time I found this song, I think I was in grade 2-3 but I really liked it, now that I am older I understand the words and it makes me think about how it was to be young. I wasn’t insecure, anxious and I was completely carefree.
