I freaking love this song!! This album is written from Christian perspective. I'm not religious at all, but it doesn't detract from my absolute adoration of this album or this song. It's soooooo good! Taxi Cab is one of my favorites from self titled.

Same but that’s what I love about Tyler’s writing, it can be interpreted to what you need it mean to you. I feel he does this on purpose & tbh it’s so bloody clever

I didn't know about their self titled album, or at least I didn't look hard for it, until COVID when I spent a lot of time watching KZbin and reactors reacting to TOP. So I didn't hear this song until then. I could listen to this song on repeat for days! This whole album is so creative and amazing and experimental. Knowing how young Tyler was when creating this song makes me ashamed of how much I was not doing when I was in my late teens/ early twenties- well my whole life really. I love this album!!

This song has strong themes around Christian salvation and the Trinity. That's great that your 'musical ear' is changing and I'm happy you're appreciating the musicality of these early songs.

One of my favorites... I think this one is perfect for making your own interpretation. I'm not religious but I remember listening to this on a long car ride back home after flunking out of college and those lines "we're driving toward the morning sun where all your blood is washed away and all you did will be undone"

This one is so raw emotionally. I take it as God singing to Tyler. He paints such a vivid metaphor with the taxi cab. I like your first listen interpretation as well, the love and support of a friend, especially during times of need. Loving your journey, fren! 💛❤ |-/

Tyler Joseph never fully discloses the meaning of the third verse, but he has said it is one of the most favorite verses he has ever written. The actual meaning varies by interpretation, but given Tyler’s known Christian background and the Christian undertones all over the self-titled album, the verse is likely about Salvation. Tyler describes himself as having been in a hearse, but now the hearse is no longer able to take him to his inevitable death because it ran out of gas (this is likely alluding to how we are no longer uncontrollably damned because Jesus died for us on the cross). Now, Tyler is in his coffin in the Taxicab heading towards death. Tyler can’t escape the coffin on his own, but God can pick the lock for him to save him from Hell. This happens near the end of the song where Tyler asks the three men (referencing the holy trinity) what is going on, and they say they are driving towards the sun (heaven) where he is forgiven.

I really enjoyed your interpretation of the lyrics- the real Ride or Die friend! Yes, the imagery of the 3 men up front is probably a reference to the Christian Trinity and salvation. But it only means something if you understand that level of love and commitment that you sensed. Isn’t it amazing how much emotion can be packed into a song with just piano, tasteful drums, and a single vocal line?! Plus this was self-produced, so it never got close to the radio!

I love your interpretation of this song, and I think the beauty of the subtle vagueness of TOP music is that it’s always open for interpretation. But coming from a devout Christian background, this song has strong Christian undertones. The voice of encouragement is God, the three men in the Taxi are the Trinity (father, son, and Holy Spirit), and the overall theme of the song, I feel, is that God is always there to pick us up when we are down or in our darkest moments. As you put it, God is the ultimate ride or die, and he will always pick us up in his “taxi cab”when we need help getting to the place we want to be, and that we never have to be afraid of the darkness that surrounds us so long as we trust his presence and guidance.

One of my favorites of this self-titled album. The last line is beautiful. Not sure how you should proceed next bc the first 5 songs on "Regional at Best" were eventually placed on the subsequent albums. The other 8 or so are exclusive to RAB and can be found on YT somewhere. Keep it up bro...loving the reactions.

I’m loving you’re reactions on TOP, Ren, and all the others. I think you just keep up the good work. I ❤TOP and watching you react to them is like I’m seeing it for the first time again. Love it. I know TOP is restrictive but they have a HUGE catalog. I’m glad you’re starting at the beginning. I suggest that you keep going album to album. You’ll see their progression. It’s amazing. Next is the album “vessel”. Soooo goood Also Tyler leaves his music up to your interpretation most the time. So don’t let ppl you’re wrong. It’s whatever you get from it. ❤❤

I've recently found Ren and find his work so amazing! Was blown away by his performance of "Hi, Ren." One other thing is I believe the next TOP album is "Regional at Best" and then "Vessel." I recall some songs being on both, but he's gonna have to dig for songs like Forest, Save, Lovely, Anathema, Be Concerned, etc. I really loved those from RAB that weren't on Vessel. Cheers! Edit: word

@@RickC--137 Yes, but because they duplicated some of the songs on vessel the company that holds the rights to Regional at Best pulled it. It was a crap thing to do. But you have to really dig if you want to find those songs. I also agree with you on Ren. Both He and Tyler Joseph are just so naturally talented. And then put in the years of work. Super inspiring. I’ve loved watching them both evolve. And the depth of meaning in their songs is unique.

@@leslieballard9709 - Oh yeah, I recall the label doing that & many being upset. Thought I read somewhere that since the fans made such a fuss about it that they are now available somewhere though...Spotify maybe? Just didn't want him to miss the other 8 or so songs that were on RAB bc, as you know, those are amazing as well! Kitchen Sink is one of my favorites from it 😊!! Have a blessed day. |‐/

i think this song is about being saved by God - the 3 people in the taxi being the holy trinity - so he was on the way towards hell possibly and then saw the light and was saved (i don't think he's every confirmed this but that seems to make the most sense)
