"THE Robot" was used in countless productions due to the cost of the prop. ANy sci-fi like program made by the studio that wanted to look 'official' used the robot.

As an old radical lefty, I love this episode. But mostly, I just love that reveal of Robby the Robot at the end! Humanity is going the way of the Krell, destroyed by their own creations.

This episode really hits home for me, seeing factories and warehouses bringing in new automated systems, and not long after, I and everyone else gets laid off. I really do want to see a fully-automated future with everyone having leisure time, but the transition period from now to the techno-utopia is going to be rough for everyone.

Robby is the most lucrative 🤖 in entertainment. He even has his own IMDB page. This Monday I get to see Forbidden Planet as it is meant to be seen, in the theater! I can hardly wait. Dr. McCoy, if you haven't seen it yet no spoilers, is on record as saying that we all feel bad for the other guy when he loses his job to automation. Something like that. While we do feel bad for the workers in this episode I have to say Whipple was pretty generous. Giving 60,000 workers 4 months notice, offering Hanley the retirement package, keeping the technician employed full-time. Things will always cost money and people will always be replaced by automation. The trick is too see it coming and leverage your abilities to a new job. I started my career as a draftsman. Drawing plans by hand with ink on mylar film. But I saw the writing on the wall. CAD would eventually replace my job. So I became a CAD Manager. Then an Engineer because even CAD management will ultimately be automated. Now I'm a Project Manager and mentor. I have another 10 years to retirement. Hopefully engineering design won't be automated ever. It's one of the most creative things I have ever done and I'm damn good at it. Thanks for reading this far. You get a cookie 🍪.
