I'm starting to lean towards the good Cooper being a creation of the white lodge in anticipation of the battle between good and evil. Cooper has always been able to access things that hide beyond the veil of reality. We've just learned that Laura's soul was created to combat this same thing. This is why I believe the bad Copper to be a creation of Bob, as a vehicle to walk the earth. Through the image of Cooper, Bob is able to communicate/infiltrate the very organization that seeks his ultimate demise. And I also believe Cooper was created after Bob had entered the Palmer household, in a parallel reality. This, to me is shown in the very first scene of the 3rd season. Cooper is in the lodge with the Giant, and the Giant is giving him very specific instructions. This also explains the Giants purpose, contacting Copper after he was shot, and his ability to aid in Coopers investigations.

On the subject of the flute it's noteworthy that Cooper wittled a wooden flute in the original run. Not earth shattering but there are now woodsmen and it seems that there is some mythology around wood with josie and the humming and the log lady.

Another thing to support why it must have been Evil Cooper at Diane's house that night: How else would she be so sure that what's wrong has nothing to do with the passing of time unless she had a previous encounter with him for comparison?

Re: Diary. Keep in mind that Coop & co at first find the regular diary Laura was keeping in her bedroom; she had another diary that she originally kept there too, but afted finding out that some pages were missing she brought it to Harold Smith's place. This diary was found only after Smith's suicide. I seem to remember that the thing you said, about the pages found at the crime scene not being from the same diary the Police/Coop had in their possession, was said way earlier in the series. I'm not 100% sure, I'll have to rewatch the original show, but it makes sense to me. If that's the case, it seems pretty weird that Leland/Bob was in possession of some of the pages, the ones that he had the most interest in destroying since they revealed the fact that he was the killer, and he brought them with him (and then left them at the crime scene), while keeping with him and then hiding some others that didn't have a whole lot to do with him. Unless you believe that he left all of them to be found and then later somehow sneaked in the Sheriff's station and stole and hid them. But then again, I don't really see why would he hide them instead of just flushing them down the toilet. It seems to me that it's more likely that anyone who would hide them that way is someone that is trying to help Coop getting out, keeping those pages from being found by Bob, hoping that someday, when things are more quiet, some of Coop's friends would find them. Another thing to keep in mind about the secret diary is that, before committing suicide, Harold Smith tore it into small pieces, which made impossible to put it back together. But one thing he did, he left page(s?) for Donna. While I think it's unlikely that any Harold Smith-Tremond thing will resurface or play any role in this season, one have to consider the improbable-but-not-impossible that the page(s) he left for Donna weren't the only ones that have been somehow saved.

I think it's important to note that with Dale we saw his evil doppelganger exit the lodge while actual Dale, our Dale, is now out as Dougie Coop. Leland was straight up possessed so his original personality was present and would come out when Bob let him
@VinceWhitacre7 жыл бұрын
Something I think valuable to remember is the oft-repeated assertion that to the Lodge spirits, our human notions of "good" and "evil" don't necessarily work into how they operate... so the idea of the Arm as possibly good, given that his/its doppelgänger is evil - I think more to the point is that the Arm represents *balance*. After all, he was the connection between MIKE and BOB. In his initial incarnation, he certainly seemed to enjoy causing trouble, and he dined on people's pain and sorrow; but he also gave Cooper good information (a time or two ;) ). No, I think the critical distinction between the doppelgängers of the Arm is that the one we've known for 27 years is a balancing entity; whereas the other is (quite clearly) unbalanced. One prefers order, and his doppelgänger *is* chaos. (N.B. and likely not relevant to the plot; I'd not be surprised if the Arm's evolution and the subsequent reveal of his doppelgänger is Lynch's way of saying something about the changes in his former friend)
@jessicatremmel42707 жыл бұрын
About the evolution of the arm "helping", Mike is helping and has always helped Cooper so I don't know if you can distinguish which characters are evil or which ones aren't. Mike essentially became good before the original series and helped them identify BOB. About the doppelgänger, I think the difference is that evil coop is not actually Agent Cooper (see backwards finger prints and different eye color). Leland was not a doppelgänger but a human that was possessed by BOB. This is an important distinction because otherwise Dougie Coop and Evil Coop existing in the same universe would be a paradox (like a time travel paradox). About IMDB, I have a feeling that Lynch deliberately gave them incorrect information as to not give anything away. I say this because before the series aired, Laura Dern didn't have a character name listed, then, she was only credited for 1 episode and that didn't change until after the 2nd Diane episode aired. They also used to list Big Ed as being in 13 episodes, we still haven't seen him and we only have 10 episodes left. I wouldn't put it past Lynch to do that to throw us off.

"Leland" didn't hide the diary pages. Bob did, and based on S2 info, Bob knew that if Leland read her diary, he'd know the awful things he was doing while being controlled. Bob said as much (that Leland would remember everything once Bob had left him) during the jail scene in S2. I agree with Pete that the arm helping good Cooper must have some garmonbozia angle (remember when Mike screamed and yelled at Leland and Laura about that at the traffic light in FWWM?). Also, as Pete mentions, because Cooper gave over his soul as an adult (to free Annie), I agree that this plays into their arrangement. True to his FBI self, this may all be a plot by Cooper to find a way to rid the world of Bob once and for all.

Does anyone else think Jerry Horne will be the next host of BOB? When it shows him lost in the woods, he didn't just look confused, he looked terrified like something was after him. This might also be why he shouts out "I think I'm high" with such terror--he's been seeing the lodge/red room spirits and thinks he is hallucinating.
@davidrawson9717 жыл бұрын
Jake S, I think Jerry is picking up on spiritual messages, like the 119 woman. Everything he says applies to Cooper, so it could be Cooper's consciousness speaking through the woods, and since Jerry is high, he's sensitive to it. I don't think jerry will be a host to Bob.

You talk about this in your video, so I might be asking for something you're already planning, but it would be interesting to have a list of 10 Historical People Who Play a Role in the Twin Peaks Universe--Chief Joseph, Lincoln, Nixon ?!?!, etc. This would be a tribute to Mark Frost's genius in creating a comprehensive backstory. And explain why Wally Brando is following the Lewis and Clark trail! :)

Ray didn't get "one over" on Mr. C. with the gun that Mr. C. arranged with the Warden. The warden made sure it was empty and Ray's gun wasn't, as to wrap up the Mr. C. threat posed to the Warden...

Regarding the closing scene (in the diner): Although I do not subscribe to the whole "parallel universe" theory, mainly because by definition, those universes would exist on their own and never cross, I have always believed that the "Twin Peaks universe" is made of many universes that criss-cross again and again, with portals to move from one to another. I think that that's what we are witnessing in the diner, the juxtaposition of two universes. Watching season 3, I always have in the back of my mind Mädchen Amick's interview on Carson Daly where she said: "This time around, you just don't know who I might play. David Lynch is tricky that way and some people are not playing their original characters." ... "I am Mädchen Amick and I PLAYED Shelly Johnson on Twin Peaks" (ending with a big laugh) ...

I think the reason why Walter Olkewicz is in the new series as new character jean-michel is because the actor has had some health problems with his leg. This is why we don't see him standing up. There is a website in which you can donate money to help Walter save his leg. I believe David Lynch casted him in the new series so he could earn some money to help him in his current situation.

I have a theory about why Bob`s possession of Evil Coop is so unlike to the Leeland`s one. I think while being in the Black Lodge Cooper split in two halfs forming a good one (which stayed in the black lodge) and the bad one (who is now possessed by Bob). Technically it is one person split in half so Evil Coop can be only as evil as Cooper was during his normal existence. What if Bob can use only the "degree of evilness" present in a person and not more? We all know that in seasons 1 and 2 Cooper shows himself as a spiritual person and based on his morality I assumed that there is not enough "evilness" in him for Bob to be so agressive and emotional as before. So all he can do is acting automatically. I am not an expert and I mignt have missed something but maybe Leeland was so active because he was a "whole" person and had a full range of emotions... P.S. Sorry for my mistakes, I`m not a native speaker.

Why Coop got out so easy? Because Warden double-crossed him in partnership with Ray who was given real bullets and instructed to kill Coop (armed by Warden with empty bullets). Both of them clearly wanted to get rid of him. Totally not credible that Bad Coop did not see this coming, as it was simple logic.
@MrJambot7 жыл бұрын
In terms of interesting call-backs (or retro-set-ups) the reference to Annie telling Laura about Coop being in the Black Lodge is really exciting. One other one - in FWWM we see a shot of Carl Rodd in Teresa Banks' trailer speaking to Chester Desmond. We see a shot of the No.6 telegraph pole, and then we see Carl start to cry. Is he having a premonition of the identical No.6 telegraph pole at the crossing in Twin Peaks that will be the site of a child's death in a hit and run many years later? There's no obvious reason for him to cry at that point. There are tons more that would be great for a new video maybe?
@PetePeppers17 жыл бұрын
Since the Secret History came out I have thought he was upset because of his abduction as a child. Doesn't he say the line about, "I've already been places," at the same time?
@MrJambot7 жыл бұрын
Yes, but season 3 demonstrates that he has, or has developed, an ability to 'see'. I just wonder if Lynch/Frost wanted to provide an explanation for that moment of crying by retrofitting the hit and run by the crossing with the telegraph pole that is identical to the one in the trailer park. Maybe these are the "places" he has been. I'm rewatching to see if there are any other things unexplained in the original series and FWWM that are being tapped into in season 3.

Do you think that Heather Graham won't be in this season because they're pushing for a season 4 and are moving the plot slowly enough that they don't intend to reach a point where we'd see Annie this season? Or do you think they intend on cutting her out completely?
@PetePeppers17 жыл бұрын
I honestly don't know. My understanding going in to season 3 was that they weren't really interested in doing more. Lynch said something like you don't say never, because he didn't expect to come back to it in 25 years when it was cancelled in the first place, but that didn't make it seem like they had long term aspirations. Also, Mark Frost announcing that he would be releasing the book the Final Dossier right after season 3 led be to believe that would be the finishing touch. Never know though, and as he said you don't say never.

Why was there a little man in the cave/Indian drawing/map if he is supposed to be Mike's arm? I mean Mike didn't cut off his arm until he "saw the face of God" (was this part canon? Or was that part of the non-canon International version ending of the series pilot?) and that didn't happen until modern times.
