TWIN TURBO Subaru Impreza WRX STI first shakedown! - Weirdest sounding EJ20 ever?

Built for time attack races, this is for sure the strangest Subaru Impreza WRX STI I've ever heard! That's because it's powered by a twin turbo EJ20 engine, one turbocharger for each engine cylinder bank.
This video is just about the first shakedown, I hope to film it again in the future at full power!

matty i used to have a twin turbo gc8 1.6 swaped to ej20tt from jdm forester. Torque was from 1000rpm to the end

They have 1 exhaust pipe coming out each side up front. There for you have only 2 cylinder exiting each side. The camera will only pick up the noise from the side of the car wich is facing the camera. Considering how the fire order of the EJ20 is, that is why it makes such a strange noise. Had they made the exhaust manifolds so that it was connecting cylinders 1 and 2, 3 and 4, the sound would have been much more smooth. However... for the simplicity i guess they have the exhaust manifolds connecting cylinder 1 and 3, 2 and 4, wich results in this uneven noise.

Sounds badass ngl, sounds like it's a turbo V8 but with a mix of old Formula 1 turbo V6, not the recent trash one. I wonder if the twin turbo setup is quite laggy or not

Husky701 Rider more even flow distribution, clearly more effective for this twin turbo setup that mounts low in attempts to keep exhaust/charge piping short. I’d also imagine it to be much easier to tune per cylinder compensations

Are you sure that's an EJ20? Subaru made a flat 6 twin turbo, I forget what Subaru models it was in

Also Tyler you're right I just saw the intake it has 4 plenum so this is still a 4 cylinder Edit: it may have been single turbo or n/a from factory, I'm unsure but it seems like many have TT'd it so I just presumed they were TT from factory, even mightycarmods had a twin turbo one
