I was in the audience for this performance. As soon as he started singing, everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, in the room sat up and stared without moving for the remainder. Hey, I’m 43 and like all kinds of music and obviously love this version of Sounds of Silence...but what you boys do here is more powerful than you think. It teaches younger people who might not be receptive toward different music genres to be more open minded. It also shows older folk who think the younger generations don’t appreciate “good music” that, Yeah, actually they do. Keep up the good work fellas.

You nailed it. I absolutely agree. The twins have actually made me appreciate the songs they review even more bc of their own passion and respect for the art no matter what the genre. Whenever I am feeling frustrated or even somewhat disgruntled after a hard news day, I tune into their channel and recharge my positive feelings. They always remind me there is hope we can all still find common ground within American culture and art despite our complicated and painful history. What’s so cool is they are Millennials listening to and appreciating a Boomer generation song performed by a GenXer. The Sound of Silence has definitely survived the test of time! According to Paul Simon, he wrote it when he was 21. Before Kennedy was assassinated. His words regarding the song - “The key to "The Sound of Silence" is the simplicity of the melody and the words, which are [based on] youthful alienation. It's a young lyric, but not bad for a 21-year-old. It's not a sophisticated thought, but a thought that I gathered from some college reading material. It wasn't something that I was experiencing at some deep, profound level - nobody's listening to me, nobody's listening to anyone - it was a post-adolescent angst, but it had some level of truth to it, and it resonated with millions of people. Largely because it had a simple and singable melody, ‘

Listen to the message!! It's a DIRE WARNING. Written in the 60's and coming true today.
@rohatmora55384 жыл бұрын
The original version was a warning against the rise of technology (Television / now 'social media') - causing less and less 'human' interaction (think about how people brag they have 6,000 'friends' on Facebook, or how people will 'text' someone whom is literately sitting next to them, rather than just 'talk' to them). Disturbed's version is equated to the 'rage' of someone because those warnings were not listened to - and how its becoming so 'uncomfortable' to even just 'talk' to someone without worrying about offending or being offended, because it feels easier to just 'use social media' instead of our own voices. The short version is its a warning about humanity losing what makes us 'human' - and instead embracing the 'neon god' (tech) which lets us 'communicate' but also leaves us in silence - as we forget HOW to communicate with each other as human beings.

I’m an unlikely Disturbed fan, I saw them do this live and it resonated with me. Continues to be my favourite cover of this song.

That boom boom boom is a tympany percussion instrument. Very epic instrument lol Was in symphony orchestra as a younger woman. Playing snare and tympany or kettle drums are my favorites. Adds such thunder to drums section. Love the new electronic mixing but real true instruments have richer sound to me

David Draiman has a very unique voice like no other. Definitely check out more Disturbed.

Watching the two of you reacting to this song and "In the Air Tonight" is the best day to start a rainy Saturday down here in Richmond Va. with volume turned up loud. Stay humble. Would love to see a shirt that says "It's a Banger" and this is "Cold Man". I'd wear it with pride and when people asked me what does that mean all I would say go on KZbin and you'll see for yourself.

This song by Simon and Garfunkel originally, it's about the Vietnam war and dealing with PTSD. If you like this song listen to Simon and Garfunkels "Bridge Over Troubled Water"

I grew up listening to Simon and Garfunkel, music close to my heart. "The Boxer" is an all time favorite of mine...the acoustic guitar work is brilliant and the lyrics cut deep.

Yes, agreed they shoud def try "The Boxer"

What? This song is NOT about PTSD but about people not listening to each others, and a society ignoring individuals. Not about a specific group of society, but everybody in it.

Hey guys! It is hard to believe that David was quite ill when he did this live performance. That is why he is sitting down, he was afraid he would not be able to stand for the whole performance. I think that him doing this so well live and it almost exactly matches the studio version, shows just what a great vocalist David is. By the way, those "big drums" are timpani, or also called kettle drums, which are typically used in symphony orchestras for classical music. Happy Thanksgiving & I hope you both have a great weekend!

This version of the song is a miracle, I love it. I think, I even like it better than the original Version. Because it is such a melancholy mood.And you think:" which life/experiences must a man have had to be able to sing like that." It is great to see your feelings about it, too. :-) carry on with your videos. :-)

Not only did he slay it, but was sick for this performance. When they tried to get him to use autotune, he essentially gave them the bird. He doesn't need autocorrect ever.

My Mom used to play the original ...I still remember . I was around 4 my Uncle had just returned from the Vietnam War and would sit and stare saying nothing ...he lived with us ...my Mom was 20 yrs old . It was just us...my Mom was a Foster Child she only had her brother. She would cry because he would not speak ...trauma.. he spoke finally but only to me. I went into Foster Care and never saw him again . This song reminds me of him I wish I could see him again.

Something I love about watching y'all's videos is it's like finding these songs for the first time myself, where I might have lost touch with these bands/songs before. It's extremely soothing, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

My teenager came in griping about why I'm watching dacron videos where the songs get interrupted instead of just listening to the music. Bruh, you don't understand the mindbend of somebody not being raised on the music I raised y'all on. And then I realized I hadn't really introduced them to the music *I* was raised on. Might have to start a channel for that. Lol.
