that's not necessarily true. animals are like people -- some are too trusting, others are ever-suspicious and may be some are good judges of human character. but animals aren't magical, and they don't always recognize a bad person when they see one, or necessarily understand when a good person is trying to help them or is just trying to be nice to them. all that stuff about animals automatically knowing who's good and who's bad is a myth.

right from the start -- the cop should NOT have told the friend what happened to emily. he SHOULD have told her, "this is a police matter, you'll have to leave until we're done." and then he should have shown her the door. that was *_very_* unethical. it should have been up to emily to let her friend know what happened later on, if she wanted to. that should have been her decision to make, and hers alone.
