Twisted Italian Cast-On Tutorial

Thanks for checking out my corner of the internet, where we'll be learning a slight modification of the cast-on method from Andrea Mowry that is perfect for 1x1 twisted rib, sometimes referred to as a tubular or Italian cast-on.
This cast-on is suggested for the neckband of the Twisted Tea Shirt designed by me and in testing now.

I know a few people who like to do this, perhaps I'm just tight enough with my finger cast-on that I haven't seen the need to do this (no loose stitches or flaring), and I adjusted once this way but saw no difference. IF, however, you're first row looks too loose, this is a great idea to try!

I'm just guessing here, but I think you could set-up the same way and then just begin twisting your purls after the set-up. My thought it that you're actually not working the purl stitches during the set-up rows, AND it's a little tougher to see whether you've twisted the purls right from the start, so you should be okay as is! Let me know what you think

Actually, since you work your set-up rows flat, you do work the purls in the first set-up row as "wrong side knits" (you go through the back loop but since the stitch is already in another position than usual, it just makes a normal knitted stitch). So if you want to make a full twisted italian cast on, I would actually twist the knits of the first set-up row, i.e. going from back to front, from left to right (and not right to left // it's a tricky move) so the first row is twisted too. But like you said, it's probably hard to tell if it's twisted or not anyways, so you might want to just do the half twisted version haha! And I didn't test it so I don't know how strechy it is and if that would actually do the job (and I guess my comment comes a bit late for you hahah) 😂 Anyways, thank you for the tutorial, that was just what I needed 😊
