And, yup, I was on TM3, but that's the result of starting with a racing game codebase (CART World Series) and having 9.5 months to turn it into a Twisted Metal game. With TM4, we had another 9.5 months, so basically 19 months total to get to the TM4 stage of things compared to half that for TM3.

I loved the random A.I. of Twisted Metal 3 and 4 as a kid, especially how they killed each other instead of targeting me like in 1,2, Head on, and Black. 3 and 4 were easier for kids for sure, but the replay-ability of bonkers A.I. opponents and the secret maps of 4 were awesome! Love your videos BTW, super fun and funny to watch! Bring back Twisted Metal!

I remember playing through this game so many times with my friend since it was the only TM game he had. We knew every corner of every map, every combo and every cheese tactic there is and more.

There's a special move exclusive to this game that teleports you to a different area of the map, if you press up up down down. I think the AI can use it as well which would explain how Quatro survived falling off the Oil Rig. There's even a bonus deathmatch level you can unlock where the entire level is a flat platform of destructible sections of floor, where it tells you the button command in the level description.

Now this really takes me back. I was 5 when it released and so many memories from watching my older cousins play. We would always laugh nonstop whenever Sweet Tooth's fire "hair" gets put out when he gets frozen. Good times.

I remember cheesing this game once I learned a glitch. So you can fire backwards in the game however if you ran out of any weapons then try to fire backwards it would fire the last weapon you used any way at the cost of some energy. Sooo..... I would pick calypso and have his special be the last weapon I fired thus using the backwards fire glitch I would launch multiple nukes backwards all game.

When falling off the stage activate your teleport by quickly pressing UP, UP, DOWN, DOWN. This is also how Quatro survived his fall off the stage as well as super augar apearing in front of you.

TM4 & TM3 are my 2 favorites in the series. I spent so much time playing this as a kid. It is crucial that you look up the special abilities for this game too, you can teleport which would have saved you on the oil rig and to get away from sweet tooth's special attack 😂

Best part of TM4 was the soundtrack and Rob Zombie as a playable character. If you are looking for other car combat games my favorites aside from TM would be Rogue Trip: Vacation 2012 and the Vigilante 8 series. Rogue Trip was made by SingleTrac (the makers of TM1/TM2) and many people consider it the "spiritual" TM3 since TM3/TM4 were made by 989 studios. Vigilante 8 introduced a lot to the genre in the form of side goals, powered up weapons (turning a mortar into a crater maker by using more ammo) and with Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense the ability to upgrade your car's stats (when fully maxed out the car design changes) as well as different types of vehicle powerups that help with certain terrain (snow tires, water skis, and a hovercar). If ya cant tell car combat games were something I greatly enjoyed in my childhood and even though the art style didnt hold up well they are still something I go back and play a lot.

This is the best Twisted Metal for me even with the edge glitches and teleport glitches. It's hilarious! Gotta remember there are a ton of little button combos you can ender on the dpad that do special stuff. One is teleporting so you never fall to your death if you have energy . I played the hell out this game in my youth
